2018 Federal Budget

Early reports seem to indicate that this is a free-spending deficit budget, with more of JT's trademark gender equality stuff. I think the new 5 weeks leave for new fathers will benefit at least a few of RSers, but it remains to be seen how that would get implemented at the real workplace level, and when exactly it's go into effect.

Hopefully we can keep some discussions in this thread to see how the changes will affect us.

Let me guess. Increased taxes on business's and high income earners. Handouts for 'equality'. No benefit to middle class. Middle class now identified as those earning 45-50k/year household income with 50+ being dirty rich thieves.

edit: everythingwentnotasbadasexpected.jpg Im glad to see a reasonably 'boring' budget for a change.

and the $10b a year deficit was supposed to go directly to infrastructure construction projects.

BRB 3 years later no money has been put to infrastructure projects and the deficit is twice what they promised.

The Cons under Scheer is quite possibly just as bad as JT. The idiot (Scheer) has thus far appeared to be Harper lite in quite a few ways, including his recent pledge that the Cons will recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital if the he/Cons are elected.

Canada is not World Police, and we are not US lite either. Things would have been perfectly fine if you just let the Israel gong show carry on.

Really?

Under Harper, we saw losses in university funding and science, a drop in economy, increased funding in prison systems that don't work. How is it better?

You haven't even got proof that this new budget won't work.

The Cons and Libs are horrible in their own way, it's just right now we have a hipster child Prime Minister - a peter pan in charge of a country. We need a leader who is a in the middle of a Trump and Trudeau, so far none of the major 4 (Bloq don't care) parties in Canada have a leader who has the balls to lead this country.

Is anyone else tired of literally every form of social media (bulletin board / facebook / whatever else) just being a sewage treatment plant of biased images and predatory reporting? I feel like my eyes are in permanent eyeroll these days, everyone is so full of shit and nobody thinks their shit stinks.

You haven't even got proof that this new budget won't work.
If you compare Canada to the other g7 countries, under the Harper government, we had the strongest economic growth and job creation since the recession.

And what is your definition of "work"? Look at the deficit that this moron is running up. With no intention (anymore) of returning it to even a reasonable level.

And sure, this budget isn't (as much) of a shit kicking to businesses as people thought it'd be, but it does absolutely nothing to curtail the appeal of the US tax reform.

Unfortunately, social media is the cancer on the body of the Internet. Because everything is instant on these platforms, the cancer spreads instantly. Caused by mouth breathers who graduated from the school of 'full time mommy' and 'retired doormat cleaner'.

According to my comparison of interest rates globally, no, we did not have any economic growth since 2008. Using the countries interest rates as an indicator of economic health.

Although, the previous article does say that Canada did have the highest economic growth in 2008, 2009. Using International Monetary Fund.

My definition of working prisons and criminal reforms are that of the Netherlands. Compared to the US where our system is modeled after.

Can you elaborate on that last point?

The last straw for me was cutting off the Census and government funded studies if it didn't align with exploitation of resources.

In my view it was essentially navigating a country without a compass. Driving without a speedometer or changing gears without a tachometer.

Our current PM could dress up as a fairy in a tutu and play pretend with his kids for all I care, and make that a meme. But if he and his cabinet implement legislation for a stronger Canada in terms of; unity, economy, environment, equal opportunity, access to health care, independence from foreign interests, then I could care less what he does.

Fair enough. I don't think someone's personal view of how the PM conducts himself should be much of a determining factor either. I don't think there's any place in politics for that nonsense. I care about fiscal responsibility. And social welfare.

What I don't care for is a government that favors individuals based on race or gender.
That's not equality. That's reckless and destructive.
It doesn't create unity or equal opportunity. It creates division at an attempt for equal outcome, not opportunity, IMO

What's your view on this budget that sees an emphasis on women in the work place and closing the pay gap?

I'm hoping that in terms of administration that's OK, but I have yet to see women in construction be as productive as men. Possibly that's because it is rare to see women on site. I'm looking forward to that sweet sweet paternity leave though.

I don't think the conservatives don't have a front runner that compete with the celebrity status of Trudeau for the next election, so we may have JT for an 8 year term

I'm all for closing the pay gap. My wife has chosen to work part time so she can spend more time with our son, and I'm pretty excited that she will get paid a full salary so that she can be equal to a man who has chosen to 2-3x as much
