| 3 dead at shannon falls
every summer I have to read these headlines and my stomach turns https://globalnews.ca/video/4316035/...media-stardom/
for the 'gram crowd, please be prepared for the wilderness...we've got some seriously rugged terrain just off-trail so listen to your instincts
the 'tubers who were jailed for completely disregarding Yellowstone and served jailtime were unfortunately only trying to save their friend
thank you Squamish SAR for the difficult recovery

I dunno whenever I see people doing stupid stunts on social media, the first thing that comes to mind is how dumb they are, and they'll end up getting themselves killed for "likes" (and in some cases, probably very very few, some money). Every single time it's all I can think now, to the point where I'm not even impressed with stunts anymore. It's just background noise now, somewhat distracting, mostly annoying.

It shouldn't have to come to this, but perhaps we need to consider charging those individuals whose negligence directly led to them needing a rescue. Only then, will people start taking the warnings seriously.
On a side note, I don't buy for one minute the story that one of them "accidentally slipped" into the water. Given the track record of the victims, i'm led to believe that these individuals were engaged in extra-hiking activities they had no business doing in the first place. Play with fire and you eventually get burnt!

When you live life on the edge the likelihood of something like this was a matter of time. Having hiked that area many times, you’ll really have to push the boundary to put yourself in that sitution. Here’s the kicker, the girlfriend of one of the victim has a gofundme for financial support for herself and has raised over $10K. |

i can only hope what was reported is the truth, that they were really trying to help save their friend, and that it wasn't just anoher reckless shennanigan mainly for youtube dollars

The younger generation finds it more appealing to do insane, risky, dumb things to get likes which will get them revenue. For me personally, I've stopped looking at social media other than for news and current events.
Play dumb games, win dumb prizes.
Unfortunately this one led to not just the death of one, but to the death of three.
PS. NSAR now does charge each person for every rescue they undertake. They made that announcement last year when people just didn't understand they were doing dumb shit and being 100% unprepared. At the end of every one of their NEWS1130 articles, they have the same comment: "Be prepared so you won't be our next customer".

These people neglect their own lives for a dopamine rush and become addicted to that rush.
Hard for me to sympathize with that. Sucks for the family members experiencing loved ones die so pointlessly.

Got nothing against people pushing the envelope and doing cool things, just accept the consequences of said actions and don't be a cunt about it (destroying fragile ecosystems).
Cliff jumping is one of my favorite ways of getting a rush, love it.

These people should have died at Yellowstone. By dying here, they'll look like local martyrs.

Drove past the incident on Tuesday on my way to Squamish. Cops blocked the entrance of the park, kinda felt bad for the people who drove all the way there only to be turned back around

They did some bad stuff, but they also helped a shit tonne of people out... I didn’t know them and I had read the bad press, but I saw their memorial page and all the people talking about how they donated their time to help them start their businesses or promote brands starting fresh... seemed like they really did help a lot of people out. For sure some questionable decision making at times, but nobody deserves to die... tragic accident. RIP.

Not even suicide, but just pushing the boarders until they die... Seems like they did exactly what they were planning to do. Keep going for more "likes" until they die.

I think if you read the article the girl slipped, the other 2 were trying to save her... it’s a tragedy, I’m sure they didn’t mean to fall off a rock but misguaged how slippery it is? Police said many people fall into those pools every year as well as dogs and the one they were in is not banned access... so.... I don’t know, some of you guys go ahead and celebrate the death of other humans then I guess if that’s your thing *shrug*
So what if they died taking risks? Mountain climbers take risk and die and people mourn them, F1 drivers take risks and Senna et. Al. Are revered as heroes, motorcyclists are super risky and everyone cries if they die...... it was their job and they died doing it, it’s just easy to backlash on because social media is easy to hate on and it’s currently seen as kind of douchey? I hate it too, don’t even use anything except Facebook, but I don’t really see why these guys get scoffed at for taking risks and losing their lives when so many other professions and people with hobbies do that every day.

It's not so much that they deserved it, or good riddance. They died doing what they loved. At the same time, they will no longer tarnish the opinion of other countries when it comes to these guys representing Canada when they travel. Not that anyone will remember in five years anyways. What will have a lasting impact is that if they were still alive and doing good in their communities. That is what will be missed.
