If you work and have vacation time off, take some time off and travel to get away.

I went through a period where I was stressed about this and that and it started to inflict onto my health (unable to sleep properly/always feeling tense and pressure). Before 2017, I only really traveled once out of the city every 2-4 years due to busy with work/school etc, now I feel it's really helped by taking a "break" where you don't need to give a "shit" about anything to relax your mind and body.

Just take a break from the rat race by taking time off and spending some time away from the hustle and bustle of a city. Im guessing ur going through a 1/4 or 1/3 life crisis? Believe it not, your not alone. Everyone goes through this. What helped me was understanding and realizing what truly matters in life and making sure you make time for that.

You may have a gene that over stimulates your system due to stress which is more sensitive due to an injury in the past year or bacterial infection.
see reactive arthritis and anxiety.

Magnesium and other deficiencies may also be a cause.

Head on down to the liquor store.

In all seriousness, take some time off and go explore/travel for a bit.

Talk to your family doctor, perhaps you can be prescribed something. You don't have to stay on it, when things get better you can slowly wane off of it.

I'm assuming you're already exercising. For me playing basketball a couple times a week relieves a ton of stress and anxiety I could be dealing with. Exercising in the morning is also a huge benefit for me versus exercising at night time. I've also heard hot yoga is great although I've personally never done it.

Hiding it with weed and prescription medication or running away travelling is the complete opposite of what OP should do. He said he's dealing with some things in his life, perhaps talking to someone, such as a professional, and finding ways to work thru issues or understand which perceived issues might not be issues at all. Dealing with things is how you get thru things, not hiding from them, because they don't go away. If there are 5 things on your anxiety list, smoking weed will leave you with 5 things. Running away will leave you with 5 things when you get back. Dealing with them one by one will leave you with 3 or 1 thing on your list and that is much less stressful.

Spoiler!

seriously though, i'm an over thinker myself, and a manager told me once that sometimes we can waste time/energy thinking of a million different options/scenarios and 'be prepared' for something that may or may not happen, and forgetting or not doing what we need to now. sometimes to be productive we just take care of what's immediately in front of us now, and if the problem presents itself, that's when we look at the options to resolve it vs worrying/stressing about a problem that may or may not occur

another manager once told me: did anyone die? then it was a good day. everything can be solved by time and/or money. if there was no injury or death, it's not the end of the world. we can only control what is within our power. stressing/worrying about things we cannot does nothing and is a waste of time and energy.

i found those 2 conversations have helped me deal with anxiety or stress to various degrees inside and outside of work.

i also found having someone to listen helps, especially someone that can relate to whatever is making you anxious. i shoot the shit with certain friends or coworkers and my SO doesn't like that i don't speak to her about it. i tell her it's b/c usually all i have to do is explain the problem, and they already know exactly how i feel b/c same shit has happened to them before. i just start talking and it's like immediately this
Spoiler!

aside from the mental aspect, like others have said here, activities.
i used to use golf to calm my mind and regain focus, then martial arts, now it's fitness/gym. i find exercising the body helps with the mind.

I was getting anxious randomly a couple years ago and I didn't know why. I never got anxious before.. I realized that I started drinking coffee at work since everyone at work has coffee.

Diet might be a contributor.

I stopped drinking coffee and my anxiety went away.

Hope you find your trigger.

sure if you use vacations as escapes
they can also be a vehicle to clear your head or gain new perspectives
you come back home and think wtf why did I even get worked up about that...

I feel awful for people who use traveling as a way out...that's great but you're still gonna be miserable the 50+ other weeks

and like always, good on you for taking the first step, that is acknowledging that there might be a problem..good luck

Take it seriously and seek help (go see a professional). Don't hide or suppress it. Suppressing it only makes it worse down the road.

Are you telling him to not talk to a doctor? Because that is exactly what I told him to do first which logically is the best thing to do when it is concerning your HEALTH.

I've had severe, crippling anxiety, to the point where it very negatively affected my life. There were times where I couldn't sleep for days, I'd have panic attacks, and social anxiety which caused me not to leave the house for days.

My best solution was TRT (testosterone replacement therapy) and exercise 4x a week. I thought the exercise would be enough, but it wasn't (but it does help). My test levels were very low, so with a prescription I am back at high-normal range. Probably for the first time in my life since high school. TRT really kicked the anxiety. So if you're a male in your late 30's, get your levels tested.

Note, I still deal with depression, but it no longer comes with social anxiety and panic attacks.

Also ashwaghanda helps a LOT. Get the Himalaya brand, take 1 each morning before food.

Phenibut helps even more, but is highly addictive. I'm not sure if there are any negatives to being addicted, other than you have to take it all the time or suffer pretty severe anxiety attacks and withdrawals. But don't start it if you're not in a good state of mind.

On travelling, 'running away from it all' can actually be a good way to 'reset' your brain, if your issues are due to motivation or stress. That's why we vacation in the first place. A lot of the time, you take that time to think about where you are in life, what you're unhappy about, and what you can do about it. You don't have time to think about that shit when you're dealing with it every single day.

I always feel AMAZING after a vacation, and often I am super motivated and do some life-changing actions right after coming back. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. It's not the best solution outright, but I wouldn't automatically dismiss it.

In this day and age, anxiety at one point of one's life is not only normal, but expected. Especially as it relates to career and finances in an era where home ownership seems to be a pipe dream for so many.

Don't look to drugs or medications to deal with it. IMO it will only make things worse by establishing a dependency of "I feel anxious today, I need x or y to get out of it". It is like diagnosing a kid with "ADD" and pumping them full of Ritalin. Guess what? They're kids. They are restless, they have short attention spans, they need constant stimulation. Ditto for being an adult who is anxious about the future. It's part of that life stage. Unless the circumstances are very dire (depression and/or suicidal thoughts), you don't. need. drugs!!

As SkinnyPupp said above, going away on vacation is a great way to de-stress and reset. Or even finding a hobby that allows you to get away from city life even only temporarily. Such as golfing, hiking, or fishing. Hell, take a weekend off and go find an Airbnb in Ucluelet or something just to get away from it all. I find that helps me a lot.
