congrats dark - PRS is a great school. I went through it in 2008 w Dat and Kramer. I still think about the awareness and vision training when I drive (and ride) today.

It really sux that there are no venues available for autox anywhere within easy reach of the Lower Mainland, and believe me -- the club representatives have been trying left right and center to find places.

Mission Raceway is looking to get an estimate on paving a large area at their venue, and I sincerely hope that whatever it turns out to be, it would enable Mission to host some autox there:

I'm assuming down there you guys are used to bigger areas? In Kelowna they use part of the college parking lot and in Vernon they use the arena parking lot and they're both about 450ft x 250ft. Surely there's loads of those down there.

took over lot 6 at blackcomb base and ran a super tight really fun (bumpy as hell) mini track.

you don't need a lot of room to have a good time. you do need insurance though - i'll bet that's the toughest part these days

I did almost own Greg's car above though. It's a '77 911s. He was on the fence about selling and i was impatiently waiting for him to decide. Ultimately it stayed in his family. :okay: That car won the concours in 2015, then won the auto-x the next day. Love that attitude, they were built to be driven hard.

Gears are REALLY long. 2nd is good to 120km/h, top of 3rd is 185...

Oh and top of 4th is 257 according to a youtube video I just watched. First and second are great, 3rd and especially 4th could do with substantial shortening.

I did 48days in mine in the 10 months that I owned mine. It was enough to justify getting rid of it ��. Im lucky enough to have a place to dry it out.

10 min setup, 15 minute teardown, if you're quick. Even worst in the rain.
Climbing up and down got slightly annoying. Even worst in the rain.
Not being able to set it up in shade

But the real reason is I'm a lazy camper, I don't want go spend 30minutes setting up camp every time. Especially because I do lots of multi day, multi location trips. It got old.

My solution: Wedge Camper(bed mount), just tenting until I have it on.

But it's essentially, Climb up - unzip the cover(first walk around), pull it off, unclip the buckles(second walk around), flip over, attach poles(3rd walk around), pull out the entry cover(this is the most annoying to done). Even worst when you have an SUV and everything is done above your head.

However everyone and their brother with a taco or a 4Runner seemed to snap up those rooftop tents, many who couldn’t light a fire out in the bush to save their lives lol..seemed like more of an aesthetic statement in that Toyota crowd than an actual functioning outdoors setup

I don't think owning a RTT and lighting a fire out in the bush necessarily go hand-in-hand. Everyone's use case is different. Some don't even go out into the bush and rather stick to bookable car camping spots in provincial parks (which a sedan could reach), the tent is just for added ease and comfort. Definitely a luxury item given their costs.

Everyones experience is different. The RTT takes realistically about 10 minutes to set up, same to break down. What I loved about it was getting some of the best sleeps I’ve had. No lumpy ground, no tarps, no tent bags and mattresses and all that junk. Climbing up and down never bothered me much. Also the fact they’re virtually weather proof is fantastic for BC where it rains so much.

Worst thing hands down is if it’s windy. I found my tent would blow like crazy. One time staying in osoyoos I brought it to sleep in (friends in the house, so hot in there). But at 2 am it was so fuckin windy my dog was freaking out and ended up going inside and slept on the floor. Granted I bet any tent would have been unbearable

The other thing to keep in mind with a RTT is that in places like Africa, and Australia you don't want to keep your tent on the ground.

Obviously it's much less important here, but having the mattress inside is very nice.

@speedstars wow that is stunningly OEM even down to the pea shooters. Only suggestion I have is order some 90/91 brake lights as it eliminates the Amber (clear lense but Amber bulb) but is still factory equipment. I’d also suggest the jdm 1 piece headlights but I assume that’s crazy expensive nowadays

^ I've been trying to find some JDM one pieces (locally or overseas) and almost all of them have some sort of cracking or another. Mint ones ask for like $600 USD :fulloffuck:. Car needs a full repaint now and am on the edge of selling since I've put roughly 4k ish kms in the past 4 years.

I took a spirited drive to Squamish a week ago with the Model X Long Range and set regen to standard on the way there and set to low on the way back just to feel what differences were. Going there was amazing. I might have had to touch the friction brakes five times on the way there but regen was strong enough to set the rotation of the vehicle in tight corners. Deceleration is equivalent to normal braking in traffic to a red light. In high speed corners, regen had just the right amount of deceleration control to literally “trail brake” through to apex then power out hard. There was very minimal upset to the chassis thanks for low centre of gravity and the throttle control that feels equivalent to turbo vs NA ICE but in this scenario, comparing NA ICE to EV.

On the way back with regen set to low, I immediately felt like I had to use the friction brakes before corners when I was approaching them moderate aggressively. Low regen on a Tesla is somewhat like engine braking at 3000-5000 RPM with a 6 cylinder. The times when I needed to rapidly slow down I could really tell I was hauling a 5500lbs vehicle down in speed with the friction brakes but they are big enough not to make you feel like you won’t decelerate in time.

1/3 of the way into going back I set regen back to standard. The experience is far better and the control with one foot is like left foot braking with one foot. I took a spirited drive to Squamish a week ago with the Model X Long Range and set regen to standard on the way there and set to low on the way back just to feel what differences were. Going there was amazing. I might have had to touch the friction brakes five times on the way there but regen was strong enough to set the rotation of the vehicle in tight corners. Deceleration is equivalent to normal braking in traffic to a red light. In high speed corners, regen had just the right amount of deceleration control to literally “trail brake” through to apex then power out hard. There was very minimal upset to the chassis thanks for low centre of gravity and the throttle control that feels equivalent to turbo vs NA ICE but in this scenario, comparing NA ICE to EV.

On the way back with regen set to low, I immediately felt like I had to use the friction brakes before corners when I was approaching them moderate aggressively. Low regen on a Tesla is somewhat like engine braking at 3000-5000 RPM with a 6 cylinder. The times when I needed to rapidly slow down I could really tell I was hauling a 5500lbs vehicle down in speed with the friction brakes but they are big enough not to make you feel like you won’t decelerate in time.

1/3 of the way into going back I set regen back to standard. The experience is far better and the control with one foot is like left foot braking with one foot. Friction brakes are completely independent of regen.

With Toyota, when you use the regular brake pedal it ramps up regen first, then throws down the anchors once you exceed the regen threshold.

Correct. The throttle pedal changes regen as you ease off. Fully off for max regen which can bring you to a comfy stop. Partially off to vary regen/deceleration. It’s nice to drive in the city that way. Throttle placement makes speed control very linear feeling.

There's this analogy I always like that says those timers that have sand that flows between two chambers is like life, the top one is time/health, and the bottom one is money. Everyone was telling me that they do make a 2-3mph difference, but these are cheap skinnies and being 17x4.5 they still weigh 23.4 lbs. For reference my apex arc8s 19x9 weigh 19 lbs. Adding tires i was still saving weight but only 1 lb per side, but i guess its the contact patch that helps since i did gain 2-3mph. I also removed pass. seat which is a solid 50-60lbs which i never did before, so that was good for half a tenth. Ill try go get a pair of 5 series spares which are 17x4 and only weigh around 16-17lbs and see if that gives me a bit more to get in the 10s

yes, pretty much maxed out turbos but still holding 22psi with no smoke or rattle. had the same tune for 3 years now.

i only know of one other person that went 10s with stock turbos in the states but his car is completely gutted down to 2600lbs, im at 3350-3400. He went 10.6 and then 10.2 adding nitrous

it can hold 650 hp/ 600 tq. Torque is the killer here. i have a spare trans with 110k on it with new fluids ready to go if mine blows. its pretty expensive to upgrade the stock 6AT so people usually do a manual swap or upgrade to a 8 speed ( new kits just came out so you can use f series trans )

I see some Ford guys even locally with the EcoBoost V6 running insane power and numbers on the Explorer ST and not even touching the tranny at all.

manuals cant come even close to 11.0 on stock turbos, hard to launch, easy to break axles.

There are manuals with 600 whp struggling to get into the 10s.

8 speeds can hold more power and shift faster.

Yes. It's partly why it has not seen daylight in 2 years or so.

The car is 100% legal and safe except for the non-covered Aux lights (I have covers). I can't risk getting it towed to a yard if someone thinks a car from 1969 came with Cats. I was actually in the process of getting Modified Collectors plates until the guy doing my inspection died halfway through the inspection... that's a story for another day.

Long story short I finally decided to get my car inspected for collectors plates at a shop. I'm not sure what the rules are now, but back then you just had to get a special form filled out by a certified shop.

Anyways, spoke to a few shops and finally found one that kinda knew what he was looking at and had him do an inspection. Dropped the car off. Came back at the end of the day and the place was surrounded by ambulances. The poor guy had a sudden heart attack after putting my car on the lift and didn't make it. Shop closed down shortly after.

Super clean focus SVT. Only traded it in because my wife and I were having a child, wanted something bigger. I really wanted to keep it, daily it and use the RS for track/weekend. But we just didn’t have anyone who could store a car for us. So we traded it in when we got our Ford Flex. Then 2 weeks later we found out we were moving and could have kept it. Fucking kills me inside to see this.

I wish they were Weld wheels ! i think welds are around 6-700 USD a wheel, and 4-5lbs lighter than these. My car is a budget build, cant drop 2k on skinnies :) These are vision wheels 17x4.5 18.8Lbs. I've since switched to 5 series spares 17x4 16.4lbs. I def prefer the look of these so i might go back after i run 10s.
