I’m the fattest fuck here! And I eat out like 95% of my meals so y’all listen to me.

Sounds like I should go on a cruise for my bulk. Just go between the gym and the dining room all day every day, with an afternoon nap on the deck thrown in between.

I thought exactly this, what a fantastic bulk option lol maybe even economically viable too!

A repositioning cruise might be a good choice for this since there typically aren't that many meaningful stops and more sea days on repo sailings. They are cheaper too.

Do cruise ships have squat racks :considered:

Damn you guys are hardcore...

I grew up drinking soup everyday too, but there is just too much prep work involved, not to mention all the fat skimming you gotta do if you don't want the pot of soup to be covered in layer of oil.

my parents are old school chinese and they dont believe in calories in and calories out. theyre always calling me to come home to drink soup (老火湯) and if i flake too many times they just bring over a big ass pot :heckno: ... i mean c'mon how the fuck am i suppose to track the calories in that :rukidding:

I do the 老火湯 on my own without my parents.....

Carrot corn
Chicken
Watercress and some fatty pork
Apple/pear and pork

Think about your caloric intake over the week and include everything on the days you drink. People rarely go off the rails with drinking alone and a "good" diet mon-fri can be negated by two days of 500-1000 extra cals two days in a row on the weekend.

Rich

interesting, i always looked at in/out daily, and assumed if i'm good 5 days it'll outweight the 2 bad, i guess if i look at it weekly and sum it all that may work diff...

guess i'll have to ease up on beers and go with vodka sodas like the kids these days do :lol

In general terms; to loose 1 pound of bodyweight you typically have to be in a caloric deficit of 3,500 cals/week. That means ~500cal/day. If you're in a slight a calorie deficit during the week + you overeat during the weekend you will maintain your same weight or it will fluctuate but never lower.

My girlfriend is a nutritionist and has clients who drink on the weekend, but those calories are accounted for in their meal plans. They are choosing to the drink those calories and reduce food intake to balance on those days.

Calories in - Calories Out

Btw if any of you are interested I could pass you her contact info.

There's a shortcut way that I do, it's two step but less tedious than trying to scoop out of the pot with a spoon.

Use a ladle to scoop the top. Don't worry about getting the soup. Put it in a narrow container. Now the oil collects in a thick layer on top since it's much narrower than the pot. Scoop oil out and throw the soup back in the pot.

You don't want to remove every single drop of oil anyways. The oil contains a lot of the fragrant flavours. Chicken soup without a little bit of oil isn't that great.

Being skinny is easy.

Retaining muscle while losing fat off is hard.

Otherwise you can eat at a calorie deficit consisting of beer + chips and lose weight.

Well that’s why most alcoholics are skinny af

Even if you’re pounding back 30 beers a day and getting all those calories you’re getting zero nurtional value otherwise

weighed myself this morning, 168.2lbs, so i've lost about 5lbs.
all i did was stop the late night snacking entirely and tried not to overeat past the point when i was full.
otherwise almost no exercise except maybe a once a week or so bike ride or hike, no gym.
honestly im quite surprised at how quick that was. 5lbs to go

Been hitting those heavy leg days once a week at the gym. Feels great to round out the week with them. My other two days at the gym are fairly balanced work outs or strictly cardio but at least 1 heavy leg day with almost as much as I can bear

Been quite happy with the results and strengthening glutes and hamstrings. I have a herniated disc in my lower lumbar which has been a problem for a decade and after I badly injured it again 2 years ago I could make that Vertebrae “click” when doing Yoga and stretching. Whether that’s just a tendon or muscle rolling over it or the actual disk I don’t know

However, with the consistent leg workouts and stretching I’ve kind of eliminated that clicking, which I hope means more stability and muscle

Worth mentioning how much mental health stuff can increase the physical feeling.
I hurt my shoulder pretty bad (long standing injury due to dozens of dislocations) so I can't really work out worth a shit right now.
Went to therapy for the first time in months and did some breathwork for the first couple times and some yoga also for the first couple times.
The culture behind it and the bitch yaletown moms who yell at hostesses always made me dismiss them but can say just after a few days I feel like mobility and tension that I've lived with for years due to stress is apparent and becoming much better. This is a lot more about feeling good than looking good for me (since I already look fantastic) and think you guys should give it a go to help if you're having trouble with the mental aspect of the fitness stuff.
I know it all sounds pretty horseshit but I promise I'm not talking about moon winds and mercury being in the wrong spot or whatever the fuck.

yup its so expensive now that some practicioners are not even advertising the length anymore, they just say "initial" or "follow up" and those are 45m and 30m. for physio i find that it's enough, but for RMT i want my full hour. i just do 45m RMT now so i can get 5 sessions in a year instead of like 3-4.

Have $2500 coverage for each service it isn’t blanket RMT/physio/Chiro like most, it’s pretty sweet. Biggest thing is finding a proper RMT that’s close to home though. Have been dealing with the same one for 2-3 years now and she’s only about a 10 minute walk away so the convenience is likely why I’ve been able to go so much.

If you book one of the RMT’s at the Fairmont spa you get access to the rest of the spa as a result. And by having the RMT massage you can claim it

You don't get to claim the full amount though. Fairmont charges iirc $120 over book amount, so that $120 is out of pocket.

The carrier will pay up to the R&C rate which varies from carrier to carrier, but is generally around $120-$130 per hour in BC.

Scandinave, Spa Utopia, Fairmount all charge above R&C (reasonable and customary amount) for massage (around $200ish per hour), so you're partially out of pocket. Given that places like Scandinave charge around $130 just visit without a massage, it's more than worth it to book a massage and pay that $80 difference between insurer R&C and the actual cost.

You're essentially subsidizing your visit of these places that include ancillary stuff like hot tubs, wine and shit by having a massage paid for by your benefits.

I just turned 40 recently but I switched to lighter weights and higher reps in my late 30s and haven't looked back. I was getting too many nagging injuries trying to lift heavy weights at lower reps. I haven't noticed a difference in muscle mass either as long as you're still pushing yourself.

So I've actually gone back to the gym recently after a hiatus since covid (I had a work gym that I used everyday before)

The first two workouts were brutal. I couldn't walk properly for like 2 days and could barely lift the kids cause I was so sore. I was benching 95lbs vs my peak of 155lb (3 reps), and squatted 115lbs vs my peak of 225lbs (5 reps). I know it's not the same since I was doing 10 rep sets, but damn I don't think I can do on rep of benching 120lbs or squatting 150 right now.

Then my son wanted to learn biking, so I went to the Killarney oval and ran with him while he biked laps. I ran 5 laps and walked like 6. My legs were sore for 2 days.

Yesterday I ran along the riverside trail down by the old river district, there and back, while he biked. I'm not sore today so it's an improvement. My cardio is still shit though.

Hey that’s good ! 170 is better than 190. That’s a big improvement. If I can get rid of my last 20lbs I’ll be pretty lean. Not like donk kinda negative body fat % lean but lean enough that I can take my shirt off and not be embarrassed.

I have tennis elbow. Man, it's WAY worse than I expected. I haven't recovered for like 4 months now. I just can't rest it long enough to make any progress.
I've cut back huge on the booze. I can't say I look better yet, but I feel clearer and less sore for sure. However, nervous to slip back into the habit. Abstinence may be my only option. It's so easy to say no to when you haven't had any in a while, and so easy to say yes to when it's habitual.
I did break the sober(ish) life though when I was in Vegas last weekend though with a fuckin bang though, so probably will end up with the same monthly intake in only 2 days lol.

down 7lbs in the last month. since my last update i switched up my workouts. went from hitting each muscle group once a week doing heavy weight lower reps to twice a week doing lower weight higher reps. im still walking an hour a day on the treadmill everyday but ive cut out the extra commute walking because its getting cold/wet and i dont like it. went back to shadow boxing because my body/joints is not liking the added stress/shock. it feels good to walk around a little lighter and being able to do 15+ body weight pull ups at will is pretty sweet.

6.6lbs to go, lets go!!!

Been doing
- Tennis/Pickle 4 Hours a week
- Volleyball 5 Hours a week
- Push Pull Legs Rest x2 days
- Golf 1-2 9 holes a week

I think this is the first year where I've averaged 11,000 steps a day for a year. Might have to bandwagon and join the running era.

New low, maybe 7 more lbs to go to start flying with 40+ inch vertical in vball.

- According to this 200lbs @ 15% - > 193lbs @ 12% bodyfat @ 6'3!
- Officially 6 months post-pec tear and I think I'm going to start pushing my chest again, the tendon feels strengthened and I'll try going to close to failure
- Starting to get delt / arm separation and striations on the entire shoulder. Maybe veiny shoulder / arms are coming at 195!

In the last 24 days I've had a drink on 3 of them.
That's instead of about 21 of those days. I'm not particularly a heavy drinker, but two beers on an average day adds up fast. I've had about 6 drinks in that time instead of about 35-40. Big impact on the overall body feel, soreness.
I do wish it had a little more impact on the mental side of things, but body fat and weight are going down so confidence is up which is a start, and just not feeling like I'm a 39 year old alcoholic is pretty good too.

There’s nothing worse than alcohol for you imo but there’s also nothing better than a nice 3 beer buzz lol.

A good friend of mine in Toronto is a giant, he’s like 6’5 probably 280lb? Fairly athletic guy not a marathoner by any means but a big fucker. Sometimes on the weekends when we’re gaming etc. he’ll have been drinking all day to get an average buzz and he’s on like drink 15-20

Conservatively that’s like 4000 empty calories lol

We also had a co worker who can only drink bud light or some crappy drink.. no idea why but at happy hour, we would get 3 and call it done, he's on his 7th and then asks for 2 more before the cut off and still functions fine.

I always see athletes etc. drink light beers

Is it really practical calorie wise? Like I always figured if I’m gaining 50 more calories for another 2-3% alcohol the trade off was worth it? Lol

For that reason I try to drink on an empty stomach.

Even then, I've been tryna not to drink that much because of hangovers and empty calories. I try my best to limit myself MAX 1x a week for 3-5+ nights if it's a birthday or something worth drinking for. Have been trying to keep it clean by hard liquor only and 100 cal drinks. But a beer slaps so hard

I think chilling the glass makes a big difference.

With that said lately I've noticed I prefer my coke with ice, even when it's already cold enough. Maybe the extra bit of water dilutes the coke just enough? Or it's like whiskey where a tiny bit of water makes it more fragrant? I may never know.

Just finding this thread now. Chunky boys unite lol. I’ll make this quick.

Always had a bad back (muscular scoliosis, manageable). Knowledgeable on diet and gym life. ~2018 change in job positions I went from 180 to like 220. Was slowly working it back down, then 2020 hit with covid and newborn. Have been ~225-230 since. It fucking sucks.

Fast forward to now, bulged L5 and am very limited in what I can do. Thankfully walking and moving isn’t painful, but no lifting, sitting/driving/sleeping is super painful. Can’t really gym or even to moderate stretching yet as we’re taking it slow. So one of the only things I can do is lose weight.

The knowledge is there, I just actually have to be strict now. Veg smoothies+meat each meal, room in my calorie deficit for a snack if still hungry. High protein, 2-3lbs a week is the goal and pretty easily achievable if I stick to it. Which I guess I have to. For my son

Oh yeah. 5’11, mid 30’s male. ~20k steps a day (not including gym), resting heart rate ~57bpm iirc. Will start back stretching/treadmill when get the OK. Already down 5lbs in the 2 weeks. 223.1lbs

Full vitamix = 3 blender bottles full
- 75g spinach
- 1 apple
- 1 banana
- 160g mixed frozen berries
- 100g frozen pineapple
- 175g Kirkland plain Greek yogurt
- 2/3 cup egg whites
- 1tbsp Metamucil (sugar free)
- 1tbsp chia seeds
- 3 scoops vanilla protein
- 1L water (enough to fill the blender)

Total 135g carb, 21g fat, 126g protein. Subject to minor change due to size of apple, banana etc.

Divide into 3 smoothies. Try to eat between noon and 8pm. Pair with ~100g lean protein per meal. I’m going through my freezer and using old stuff so right now it’s ground pork or ground turkey cooked stove top with home made taco seasoning (for less salt). I’ll also usually make a cold brew in the morning with a little sugar free vanilla sweetener and 2tbsp milk or so.

If you don't care about muscles and just want to cut, I don't think high protein + focussing on what you eat matters as much. Just be in a caloric deficit to drop the weight.

I find tryna retain muscle and losing weight is hard. Getting enough lean protein (.8-1.2g per lean bodyweight) + caloric deficit. "

IF weight loss was my goal and I didn't care about muscle or fat, I'd eat way more tastier meals to sustain the goal. Your smoothie recipe would make me dread the diet, 3 scoops of protein oh god. Good on ya to keep it up though.

If you want to cut hard and fast, just do keto. I lost about 10lbs/mo for 3 months.

The hard part is obviously keeping it off which requires lifestyle changes and imo there is a keto lifestyle, but I don't think it's sustainable.

I didn't keep it off, but if I wanted to do a hard cut again (ignoring muscle mass), I would just do keto again. The nice part is your sugar intake/tolerance gets reset.

Sorry but I disagree with everything you just said. The smoothie is delicious actually. Natural sugars, creamy from the Greek yogurt, high in fibre for great bowel movements and satiating.

Westopher knows I love to cook. But as a chunky boy with lifetime slow metabolism you need to be strict when it comes to diet, especially when you cannot just go to the gym and bust out cardio and legs to work off anything you had the night before. Calorie deficit yes but you need to be mindful of what you’re putting in your body. I’d rather have my smoothies, roasted meat and be full and satisfied then have a pittance of lasagna and end up snacking twice in the day.

I work a warehouse job and need to keep strength up, a lower carb higher protein diet for fat loss is just fine as long as you listen to your body and watch your moods (lethargic, bowel movements etc)

Not just getting to 60 but also being able to enjoy past that point. I have a bunch of aunts and uncles all in their mid to late 60's now and they all seem to have issues with things like joints, backs, cholesterol, gout, blood pressure, cancer scares, etc keeping them from doing things they want to do.

No one ever keeps shit off with Keto.

Some say it's possible to do keto forever, but it would have to be a permanent lifestyle change and I feel like the ppl who say they can do it also live in buttfuck nowhere. Whereas here, we have an abundance of quality restaurants and temptation everywhere.

If you read the medical docs, ketosis is extremely hard to achieve and you'll kill yourself long term trying

Ketosis is achieved at sub 20g carbs/day. For the 3 month period that I was doing it for, I averaged around 11.4g of carbs/day. My avg daily kCal was 1,740 (2.64% carbs, 62.17% fat, 35.18% protein) and on some rest days I had around 1000 calories and I felt fine.

I thought I got gallstones from it.. but I mostly attribute that to having a high fat diet, NOT drinking water, AND prior to doing this I probably had a liter of wine everyday. LOL I have a tough time with drinking water.. I could probably go > 2 weeks without drinking water.

All the sugar only comes from fruit, which is all natural and paired with lots of fibre (apple peel n’ all).

The worst part about keto was not being able to eat fruits.. i love fruits. But the natural sugar count aka carb count was high af.

Sub 100g carbs/day is aggressive af and you really have to make everything from scratch, not to mention literally measure everything. Tho I guess that depends on how strict you are with it.

In my hard headed case, I took the USDA/Canadian Food Guide standards, calculated the per gram value of each macro, and formulated a worksheet that I can punch the weight of each product into.

ie. I would weigh an egg every morning, because I don't trust that all eggs are the same weight and therefore would not have the same nutritional properties.

If you get anal enough about it, you'd have to weight it without shell, and weigh the yolk and white separately. I think there's probably more variance there than the whole egg weight itself.

I got a personal trainer in Calgary now I been working with once a week... I have probably like 10+ years experience of doing regular gym and body weight at home programs and routines.. I had no idea I was doing so many motions wrong or just slightly out of alignment that would lead to injury or just not maximizing the weight being pushed.

It's been a humbling experience thinking oh yah on this machine I do XXX weight but actually doing the motion properly and to the full extent its more like X weight, XXX weight was only possible because I was shortening reps or doing it with the wrong angle.

I also never focused much on my legs and torso like most dudes I think and that's pretty much all he has me doing is stability stuff and I have to admit after only 2 weeks I feel so much more agile and stable, can easily stand on 1 leg, etc.

EvoFire
11-16-2024, 01:11 PM
^ I learned the torso thing a few years back. My core wasn't strong enough and I couldn't up my max for a long time due to it. Sure your arms and legs are strong, but the rest of the body can't keep up.

And the form thing. I have a hard time not hunching when I do lat pull down, and I see a lot of ppl arching when they bench. Form is hard.

First post in months and it's going to be in here. (although Hobz and his doggie deserves some acknowledgement too. Sorry for your loss Hobz and may your dog rest in peace free from any further pain and suffering.)

A little bit of backstory, I don't wear suits on a day to day basis, so I have less than a handful of them and only wear them on special occasions, for example, other people's weddings, funerals, my own wedding....those kind of occasions. I hardly wear them because I'm a loser and get invited to things once in a blue moon. So when I do wear them I gotta look good as the wife's accessory......so TIGHT fitting.......well over time they got HELLA TIGHT to the point if I put them on, I can't bend my legs or move my arms, even the buttons on my dress shirts look like they're going to burst open. Putting on shoes was a struggle and sitting down in a chair for a meal was extremely uncomfortable.

I don't own a scale, but back in the day of highschool and post secondary the odd times I weighted myself, it was ALWAYS less than 145. I played v-ball quite a bit, but it died down as I started putting more hours into work to earn some $$. Then COVID hits and the exercise stopped completely. I was fortunate to be able to still work during COVID, so life turned into eat sleep work and repeat. Every once in a while, maybe 6 months, I'd weigh myself and the number would creep up. I brush it off as covid weight gain because it was a common thing between coworkers and reading other ppl say they gained weight on the internetz. COVID was a good excuse to just ignore the scale and continue on with life.

Fast forward to the creation of this thread. I weight myself and it read 169lbs :heckno: So I started to empty my pockets and try again, but that didn't make much of a difference.

So this was me --->:accepted: Ain't no way it's going to reach 170!
I still didn't want to make time for exercise, so working on my diet was the solution. Cut down my overall daily intake by skipping a breakfast or lunch, bringing half the normal amount of lunch when I go to work. I didn't make any changes to my dinner. About 4 months later to today...........144! I lost 25 lbs!
Don't have any pics, so use your imagination.
Tried on ALL my suits tonight and they fit again!
I'm feeling good!

I also never focused much on my legs and torso like most dudes I think and that's pretty much all he has me doing is stability stuff and I have to admit after only 2 weeks I feel so much more agile and stable, can easily stand on 1 leg, etc.
my gf is a PT and she keeps me in check when im ego lifting:okay:
but she gets results.

3.4 lbs to go!!!

Sent from my SM-G781W using Tapatalk

I've done 6-7 bulk/cut cycles.

I choose what works long-term and consistent and it's not KETO

I'm 10 lbs away from 10-12% body fat :ilied:

Edit: 220.6lbs

Let me have a taste!!

I swapped to the boba tea protein because most of my smoothies were mid for so long.

@badhobz do you have joint pains or any back issues?

I'm worried about longevity of joints starting to cause issues in late 30's/40's

Probably gonna try to supplement, strengthen and reducing my weight below 190-200 to try to combat it.

My knees already feel minor aches, hips feel super sore. My knees buckled for the first time this year after landing really hard after a jump

nothing on the joints, but my lower back isnt that great after 3 motorcycle accidents. It never healed right so i occasionally gets spasms. Everyone i know who's tall all seem to have some sort of a lower back issue/joint issues.

It doesnt stop me from benching weights (220lb-280lb) or running (up to 40 minutes on a treadmill at 5mph). It seems to only be an issue if i had to deadlift some shit without stretching first.

Gerbs take some collagen man. Costco sells a big bucket of that stuff (organic) and should help with the joints. I throw some in my protein powder smoothie and it seems to keep my joints decently lubricated.

Went to physio for a lingering knee issue I had where I would get stabbing knees pains if my knee was bent at a 90 degree angle for extended periods of time either sleeping or driving etc.

Figured I had some damage or maybe worst case arthritis setting in.

Sat down with this new physio who seemed to really know his shit and after extended assessment he figured it wasn’t directly related to my knee but more so my lingering issues with my lower lumbar and glutes from my herniated disc, given those tendons and nerves from each vertebrae run down your legs to varrying locations

He eventually worked me over a bit and then we did some needling in the vertebrae as well as a big muscle group in my glute to try and release those nerves.

The results were pretty amazing, prior in his assessment I had very little stability in my left leg and glute which I always chocked up to either weakness or injury. After the needling we performed the same tests and all of that instability was pretty much gone.

A lot of weakness etc. can be a result in your nerves not firing properly and as a result, not supporting your muscle groups.

I had been putting off physio for quite some time after my RMT recommended it, however I definitely should have gone earlier. A good physio is a hugeeeee asset in your general well-being.

I always say this but if you’ve got good extended benefits, why aren’t you using them? Find people close to home and rack up the massages etc.

By the end of this year I’ll have like 15 massages and 4-5 physio visits all 100% covered. Such a huge step in feeling better all around in terms of mobility and flexibility imo

I concur, a good physiotherapist will do wonders. I chanced on mine when she was first starting out and I could book within the week, she was great and fixed all my issues. Nowadays she books about 5-6 weeks out, it's kind of crazy, though she makes time for me and squeezes me into her schedule.

I get massages usually 2 times a week.

Guys will knee or lower back issues, you'd be surprised how much of that is as a result of tight calves, glutes, or quads, notably the IT band.

Most of us here seem to be white collar, so sedentary jobs, a lot of the pain in the knees is as a result of all that tightness and lack of mobility.

If you have the opportunity, it's best to go to a clinic that houses Physio, RMT, Chiro, and Active Rehab all under one roof. I did for an ICBC claim and it was a game changer. All your practitioners talk to each other and they come up with a comprehensive plan to fix you.

For me it was: Chiro -> Physio -> Active Rehab -> Physio for IMS

And at one point I had all 4 running back to back at the same time. Thanks ICBC.

I started going to this fancy gym in Calgary, it's full of supermodels both guys and girls I swear it's like an audition for best looking person in there every day or something.

The funny thing is though, if you get over the fact you're the ugliest person in the place and just watch what's going on, they're all trying so hard to be perfect looking but they're only staring into their phones or setting up tripods to take ass pictures in the stretching room to post to IG or OF or something. The outfits all these girls wear are so outlandish you feel obliged to stare at the ceiling all the time lest you be accused of gawking.

Sometimes there's younger hockey bros that come in with their hats on backwards and they like to cajole each other into who can flex better and compare their abs and weird borderline gay shit but I do find it kind of amusing how all these people are so devoted to being as beautiful as possible, but they can't even be bothered to interact with anyone or look up to see if there's a genuine connection to be made somewhere.

Fitness models and people that compete in bodybuilding a usually awkward weirdos.

I joined a similar hardcore bodybuilding gym down here in San Antonio. The equipment is fantastic, but the people who train here are fucking lame. I'm not doing great either. I fell into the trap thinking cardio and diet would do it, but truth is I've gotta lift to get where I want. I really don't know shit about technique or anything though so I'm avoiding it. I need to do a couple personal trainer sessions or something to figure out some base knowledge.

It's cardio and diet, there's 99% no way you don't lose fat if you count calories.

Run this and Youtube how to do every exercise, pretty easy. If there's any movement you feel like you'd get hurt, swap it out. Will also teach for food!

The rest of us don't have Ferrari Mom trying to feed us as we work out.

I'm down to 163ish from 170 in Aug, after my Alaskan cruise. I've noticed a bit less flab, but like other have said, I'm not going to lose much more unless I start counting calories. I've just been portion controlling better, and I'm just doing two training sessions a week (up from one a week prior).

You absolutely must move weight to build and maintain lean muscle mass. Cardio and a clean diet are critical as well but you still have to put in the manual labour. It's a slog to start, especially for someone who's older, but it's never too late. Once you establish the lifestyle and add lean muscle it can become a self-licking ice cream cone. Lean muscle at rest burns more calories than fat, and feeds differently. This is critical as we age for organ function, regulation of blood-sugar, bone density, and on and on.

If you don't know where to start hit youtube. Start light and learn the form and function. Build the stabilizing muscles and ligaments before you start moving up in weight but at the same time you gotta push yourself. If you're not getting your heart rate up and feeling any soreness the next day then you didn't do enough. It's a snowball from there and momentum will just keep building, even if you don't see the changes in the mirror positive things will be happening internally. Start with compound lifts and sprinkle in isolation, over time you'll figure out what your body responds to best and you'll start building your own program or routine from there - and it will constantly evolve.

Badhobz - time to switch up your routine. Your body is used to the same exercises over and over. Try new movements, change your weight, your reps, your order, etc. And when it comes back to diet: you don't put pump gas in a race car. Eat quality fuel for your body, cut the sugar, avoid heavily processed garbage, etc. You guys (and everyone in this thread) CAN achieve the results you want you just have to work harder at them. So.... how bad do you want it?

So.... how bad do you want it?

All really good advice. I'd also add on here; try something new! There is a massive array of fitness options especially in Vancouver. Find something YOU like doing and makes you look forward to working out. Almost every different variant will give you a free trial of some kind so shop around. I think choosing something that is close to home or REALLY easy to get to is beneficial as well.

While reading through this thread I see most of you are bordering on middle age which means you have a choice to make. What do you want the rest of your life to look like? If you don't use this time right now to cultivate healthy habits your future quality of life will suffer.

Lift heavy shit and get sweaty as often as possible. Don't eat like an asshole and try to have some fun doing it.

I respect your jib, at least you're owning it, which is great.

I can't stand when people complain about their weight, or how they look, but literally put in zero effort to change their habits or routines. Shit pisses me off.

I got a bit of a Texas weight update, I've actually lost weight down here, which I didn't expect. Came down weighing 192lbs, now I'm at 187, trying to get to the low 180s before a trip to Columbia in mid-January with the buds.

Started making sure I cooked at home more often down here, all the BBQ and Tex-mex was kicking my asshole. I've been using Hello Fresh because my damn kitchen doesn't have all the tools/spices that I have back home, and I didn't feel like restocking this whole place for 3 months. Still sticking to 1.5 meals a day, and this gym I've been going to has been phenomenal, gonna miss it when I'm back at Fitness 2K next year :lol

How many here have young kids (under age 12) and are shredded?

It's easy to say that a lot of middle aged men with young kids are weak-minded if they have a dad bod, but there's a reason why it's a meme. Sleepless nights, commuting, late nights at the office, eating fast food in between shuttling kids to activities. It takes a toll.

On a personal note, I started building a modest home gym last December. Treadmill, adjustable bench, a set of adjustable dumbells, and a power tower. I haven't been disciplined enough when it comes to diet, but I can now do 5-6 full wide grip pull ups in a single set compared to when I started with zero last year. Progress is still possible, even in middle age.

Estrogen levels in men can change during the transition to fatherhood, that is a fact. That alone has a definitive change to man's body, hence the "dad bod".

I have a 16 month old and have pretty much been able to keep my body in the same condition as before. I am not able to make the gym 4 days a week like I used to but I've developed a solid 2 day a week gym routine that has been working for me. I'm just looking to maintain at this point not add a bunch of new muscle.

It probably helps that I'm on my feet a lot for my job and I've always been one of those tall lanky guys so it's probably easier for me than some other dudes who struggle to keep weight off.

Very true. I hate running because I get bored and I got sick of aggressive static row programs like Sprint 8 so I got back in to boxing. Massive upgrade to my conditioning and skills with my new coach.

Hadn't done it in about 10 years but re-established myself in the 1000lbs Club on Saturday with a 1025 total lift at 225. 455 deadlift, 315 squat, 255 flat bench. Was feeling good on a DL day and thought screw it let's give it a shot. Still got it :alonehappy:

My weight is up about 8lbs or so from when I last posted in here? But that's because I've been working with a PT and where I had always worked out for aesthetics in the past now he's got me doing all leg stuff ramping up my core to be able to start doing heavy lifting in the new year.

I really am liking it though, even at my age I feel so much more agile and stable... I play floor hockey and I noticed when I take a hit now the other guy is bouncing off me which wouldn't have been the case before. I had 2 weekends in a row where I played Sunday night and woke up on Monday with zero soreness in my legs or back which hasn't been true in like 20 years??? Crazy for me at age 46.

Interested to see where this will all go in the next few months. I'm already at my trainer's actual weights on a bunch of machines apparently although he's a 3" or so shorter than me... but also 18 years younger lol
