dude i'm in for this. im around 175 and i feel most comfortable when im around 165.
i havent been that active this year because i have some hip issues, and my partner who is 100lbs soaking wet can't gain weight no matter how much she eats loves late night snacking which is also causing me to gain.

idk about a $/lb amount yet but how about for every lb short of the goal I'll donate to the Heart and Stroke Foundation before we end up needing it lol.

Went on a bulk, tore my pec and stayed at a surplus to recover, got fat, trying to go from 213 > 200 for a wedding next week.

Long-term goal is to hover 195-205lbs at a lower body fat by year-end!

I've been already cutting for 8 weeks haha. Started at 213, today I am around 205, morning, post poop weight.

Did a 12 hour round trip kayak to Granite falls this weekend, dropped 5lbs of water weight. Dropped to 203 from 208 before leaving. If I took that weight + sauna, I could water cut to 199 but that's useless for my goals.

Gym boat / boat gym is empty.

I weighed myself before going on cruise. 248lb. 190cm or 6’2.
Ever since I started going to the gym back in end of Feb I’ve lost like 10lb and gained probably that much if not more in muscle. I’m benching back to my peak of 200lbs and curling 50lbs. I’m getting quite big again with bulky muscles.

I will weigh myself when I get home to get a starting point, I could do with a 8-10lbs loss to feel absolutely ideal. Haven't been doing free weights lately cuz I strained a ligament in my right forearm playing hockey. Or jerking off. Maybe both?

Should be getting at least 8k. Miss my evening walks.

Genetics plays a huge role!

I'm in my mid 40s, 6'1" and around 160 lbs, with an ectomorph body type. Over the last few years I probably gained 5-10 pounds and I've noticed my waist size increase 1-2" as my metabolism finally slowed down. I don't snack very much. I've made a conscious effort to walk more and try to run on a treadmill 3-4 times per week.

My 16 year old son is also the same height and around 140 lbs. Eats multiple meals throughout the day and cannot gain weight. Works out semi-regularly and has reasonable muscle definition but no bulk whatsoever.

I love a good restaurant and all but modern Asian foodie culture is going to be the (early) death of us all. I swear the health nut white people with their rabbit food diets are going to give all of us fat and skinny fat Asians a run for our money.

I was at the beach the other day this ancient white lady was having a picnic of raw vegetables with whole wheat tortilla. So THAT's the secret! Still pretty sure I wouldn't want to live that long on that kind of diet.

lets keep this thread interesting. whats everyone doing for workouts and diet and game plan for the up coming months.

day 2:
workout: 40mins weights, 30mins cardio, walked to grab lunch instead of driving, took the stairs instead of the elevator.
diet: cut out the sugar(no snacking), no liquid calories(no fancy coffee drinks, just black), breakfast lunch and dinner i eat whatever i want, not really tracking calories yet.
game plan: cut weight training time down to 30mins of heavy sets, start kick boxing again for cardio, followed by some sauna time. start intermittent fasting at the end of summer, cut down eating window and track calories end of fall.

I started off easy, yesterday did a "workout" wrestling parts into the Grand Cherokee, set the alarm a little earlier to fit in 10 min of yoga before work, ditched the carby snacks and cut off everything but water at 9pm. I'm aiming to keep bumping it earlier to try and fit in some kind of morning workout as well.

Last year I almost signed up for a personal trainer at Bonsor and the form said that if I was over 45 that I needed a doctor's approval before starting so I went to the doc for that but I also watched a tonne of content on Youtube about the risks/precautions for men over 40 and learned a lot about what's realistic about weight training when you're older (like it's way harder). the crazy thing about these people is no matter how much disinterest you show on your face and body language they still keep yapping. i used to work with a really nice serbian guy but he was a total truther and he would just talk his head off about such random shit. i would not entertain him for too long but i always let him talk a bit cause he's a good dude. after just like 2 mins of him going off the deep end in every conversation i would literally stop looking at him and my body would be mostly turned away, and just lose all interest in my face and the guy would still yap for another 5 minutes.

Same thing here, dude is a nice guy I even considered him like a "friend" for all intents and purposes... he's helping me move my motorcycle with his pickup truck... but he just can't help himself, it's either politics or BTC... I don't even make eye contact and try to keep doing my reps but he just can't take a hint.

The weirdest thing about it is that he literally used to be friends with Trudeau, like they hung out together and like... 1.5 years ago he was telling me he's such a good dude, doesn't like his policies sometimes but caring and charismatic guy. Fast forward to today and umpteen hours of right wing conservative podcasts ingested, he literally told me yesterday he can't wait for the Cons to get in power and that Trudeau will go to jail soon after for all the crimes he's committed. That did make me laugh, none of these guys ever go to jail no matter what they do lol

This has been the bane of my existence at gyms.

I always feel like after about 3 years I need to change gyms. I workout with my earphones on, intense look on my face, but I still get bros that interrupt me to shoot the shit. I don't mind, but do it after my workout, and not while I'm in my zone.

Eventually you get to know all the regulars that show up at the same time as you, and I end up spending 20-30 minutes within my workout talking bullshit. Some guys treat the gym as their nightly bar hang to socialize, a workout that should've taken 1.5 hours ends up taking 2. It's even worse when it's the conspiracy theory, flat earth, bromasters.

On the note of weight loss, I think most people would be surprised how much walking, even a few KMs a day can make a huge difference. Even incorporating some walking multiple days within the week will yield results (in addition to diet).

You don't need to think you have to be that person with a pool of sweat doing HIIT on the treadmill/stair-master to be effective.

I'm 5'10, 175. Goal weight is 175, but I need to cut about 10-15# of fat from that and bring it back as muscle.
Cardio I'm pretty good. Need to figure out diet and core workouts mostly at this point.
Food wise I do pretty well. Tons of fresh veggies, but have to cut back on fried food and beer.
I'll see if I can get a body fat % as a baseline and go from there.

During my last cut, walking an 60-90 around central park to burn an extra 300-500 calories a day made cutting so much easier. Especially walking between 12 to 2PM.

Were you consuming high volumes of sugar before? I think cutting it out completely / cold turkey is a shock to the system. Try to introduce alternatives such as fruit (i.e. berries, apples, banana - not super ripe etc.)

You have to ensure that your diet and exercise regimen are sustainable for the long term, not just the summer, or for when you achieve your target. :noyoudidnt:

for the past year the sugar intake been pretty bad...
some sort of sugary coffee at starbucks at breakfast, a soda at lunch, mid day ice capp and a handful of gummy bears or m&ms after dinner.

no, im not going cold turkey. im still getting sugar from sauces and fruits.

After some googling for comparison I'd say I'm low 20s for body fat %, so I think the goal is to get it to the mid teens.

we eat a lot of fruit for sure.. i can smash like 1/4 of a watermelon in a sitting anytime. also when there are any other in season fruits that are good we eat a lot of them. otherwise we don't really buy sweets that much. we dont buy cakes, cookies, chocolates, any of that stuff, really ever.

I'm in the same boat as you. I started out 245 about 2 years ago, I started walking and then jogging got all the way down to 163 in about a year but I lost so much muscle. The last year I've been working out 4-5 days a week, stopped jogging except for walking incline on the treadmill.

I've been a steady 175 for the last 7 months but still have a gut, I am turning 50 next year so I think unless I'm willing totally cut out sugar I'll probably never lose it. Sad as it is I'm probably in the best shape since my early 20's.

I've spent a lot of time over the years figuring out how to lose body fat. Last year was my most successful. Mind you, most people cannot stomach the thought of going on a macro, let alone eating the same things every day for months on end. If y'all do want to go down that route, I'm happy to share what knowledge I have.

If you're looking for some simple tips to burn some calories, walking is the way. It's important to factor in sustainability of your workouts. Why walking? Quick recovery, can be done daily, and most importantly it won't spike your hunger. If you aren't an outdoorsy person I recommend getting a walking pad. Walk while you watch your shows, game on your phone, deathscroll on your tablet, etc. You can get in a lot of steps this way and can still enjoy the things you normally do while accomplishing your goal.

You can only go balls to the walls for so long until you get burnt out unless you're a total fucking gym rat who lives for that shit. I take it the vast majority of us are not lol. No matter what you choose to do, stay consistent. Keep it up and you will start to see results.

I will warn though, because this is objective reality, you won't see REAL results until you take responsibility for what goes in your mouth. If your goal is to simply look a bit better and feel better about yourself then just do some exercise and improve your diet. Otherwise you're gonna be looking at a macro if you're seriously aiming to hit 10-15% body fat.

Nothing too dramatic for me, I'm down from 183.4 to 182.2.

Highs: 2 sessions of floor hockey last night, basically 3 hours of running around
Lows: Friday night pot-luck that I ate way too much at

Hoping for much walking this week and I'm making all my meals, there are no snacks in the house.

Last Thursday I was going to Aria Automotive, but I was a bit early, so I drove into the automall to just look around a bit, laughed at an ugly Bronco Sport on Ford's lot that looked super dorky with vintage livery on it... thought about stopping in Hyundai to visit dark and bring him something tempting to see what would happen :D

184.1 -> 182.3 today, probably mostly water since I spent 5 hours yesterday sweating my ass off doing an oil change on the Rav, getting control arms in the Grand Cherokee, and greasing the bearings/mounting new tires on the trailer. Weighed myself this morning. 254.8 (sad) so that’s not quite 10lb but 7lbs heavier than pre cruise.

Went to the gym 7 days in the row on the boat just to see if I could minimize the damage but to little avail.

As for routine. I’m doing 5 days a week of gym.
40 minutes of cardio per day.
Broken up by treadmill run at 5mph one day elliptical next day, stairmaster day 3, elliptical again on day 4, and treadmill run again on day 5. I figure this way it’ll minimize damage to my knees.

Then I do about 30-40 minutes of weights.
Focusing mostly on chest / ab / arm exercises. The legs are being shredded by all the cardio and I don’t think I need to gain anymore muscle down there.

Biceps curl 30lb x 12 x 3 reps each arm
Bench press 190lb x 12 x 4 reps
Sitting ab crunch (machine is set to 12 I don’t know how many lbs that is) 15 x 4 reps
Frontal pull down bar thingy 120lb x 12 x 4
That rope thingy with two knobs at the end that you pull down to get the triceps. 120lb x 12 x 4

I break up these ^average days with days where I go max weight / then I do about 220lb on bench and 50lb on arm curls at 5x3 reps.

If I could get under 200 that would be nice, have been the same weight really for the last decade. Definatelt fat but generally fairly fit, gym 3-4 times a week varried routines, Yoga occasionally, etc.

If I quit drinking I bet I could get under 200 in a month. But ehhhh..

Always eat pretty clean during the week then I’ll go drink 20 drinks on the weekend and eat garbage so could clean that up… after summer..

After trying bullshit “diets” before etc. I’ve come to the realization the only proper way is calories in/calories out. Trying to cut out things you like or using restrictions never works. I typically only eat 1.5-2 meals a day, fast from 7pm or so till noon the next day. After moving to a more seditary job made the realization pretty quick I needed to adjust my routine even further if you’re not moving throughout the day

I’ll donate $20 to heart and stroke for every pound missed by the end

I echo Mikes 50 pound curl requests :lol I’ve been at the gym consistently over the last decade and have been consistently working on adding strength in the last 6 months or so and for me, proper form 30lb curls are tough and likely not getting more than a set out of that

^ You aren't gonna lose 10lbs in a week unless you stopped eating for 4 days.

Then stop eating for 4 days. It’s called a water fast.

Losing weight is one of the physically easiest things to do.

Just stop eating.

4 days is extreme. You can do 24-48 hours once a month. 72 if you’re a tough guy.

Remember weight is like an accelerator pedal. It doesn’t matter how fucking slow you go after you hit the brakes… (how much weight you lose).

if your accelerator pedal is pressed to the same depth, your weight will always return to that level. And you’ll just be stuck in this up and down cycle forever. And you’ll hate yourself for it. And you’ll always lose.

Fasting is a way to hit the brakes very hard. But your accelerator pedal has to be PERMANENTLY pressed lighter (how much you stuff your fucking fat face).

Diets don’t work. Because of the very thing I just said.

Your perception of food has to change. Your lifestyle has to change. PERMANENTLY.

Food is a drug. And you’re a fucking junkie.

Step 1 feel shame. Like all junkies do

But step 2 never happens with food because the perception of food doesn’t change. You should feel slight disgust when you see junk food (drugs). Repulsed when you see others eat it. Repulsed at yourself for wanting to indulge.

Unless you’re bulking. Then yah. Eat away.

Ulic Qel-Droma

Walking has been proven to burn more calories than anything else.

But it has also been proven that working out is one of the least efficient ways to lose weight.

Eat a candy bar. 150-200 calories in. You know how much running or walking that takes? It is EASIER to just not eat that shit.

The thing you should be working on digging deep into your psyche and changing your perception on food.

You can still enjoy delicious food. Just eat less. Cut meals out. Fast. Smaller portions. Don’t snack. Don’t drink anything except water.

If you’ve lost weight before but gained it back and are stuck in this never ending battle… it means you’re fighting a losing battle. You’ll never win. Ever. Change your psyche. Food is for sustenance. Stop indulging in it. It’s a psychological problem. Not a working out problem.

Ulic Qel-Droma
08-05-2024, 01:55 PM
There is an uncanny method… but it is harder than dieting lol.

havent seen that gif in forever

lets keep this thread interesting. whats everyone doing for workouts and diet and game plan for the up coming months.

day 2:
workout: 40mins weights, 30mins cardio, walked to grab lunch instead of driving, took the stairs instead of the elevator.
diet: cut out the sugar(no snacking), no liquid calories(no fancy coffee drinks, just black), breakfast lunch and dinner i eat whatever i want, not really tracking calories yet.
game plan: cut weight training time down to 30mins of heavy sets, start kick boxing again for cardio, followed by some sauna time. start intermittent fasting at the end of summer, cut down eating window and track calories end of fall.

why just "the up coming months"? why not forever. well you can indulge here or there, like once a month or whatever. you can cancel it out easily by just not eating once a month either.

intermittent fasting should be permanent bro.

Plz tell me you’re 500lb and in a wheelchair riddled with heart disease and diabetes.

yes, ive had 3 heart transplants and need to inject insulin every hour or else I'll die instantly.

I am not just preaching here. I do exactly as I say. im fitter than 95% of people my age, im fitter than 50% of people half my age. and I look half my age as well.

it's like smoking... if you hang around people that smoke, you'll never end up quitting. if you hang around fat-so's that are sucking back starbux mocha fuckachinos, and bubble tea's all day. snacking cuz the food is on the table... you're never going to win man.

you have to WANT it... want it bad enough that you see junk food as an enemy.

I keep zero pop at home. zero junk food. zero sugar sauces (bbq, ketchup etc). yeah I drink pop if im out at a nice dinner... and I'll fucking indulge and eat as much as I can at AYCE... but 99% of the time I'm eating so boring and clean... for so long... that it's just normal. and look in the mirror and I love it. I see food as sustenance now.

make rules for yourself. food is only allowed at the dinner table. not even on the kitchen counter, not at the computer. if you want to eat, you have to get your ass up and walk to the dinner table. that is the only place food is allowed to happen. especially no eating in bed... I don't even know why I have to mention that. it's a disgusting habit... the only liquid available at home is water. black coffee if youre a coffee drinker. sparkling water if you're fancy. not even diet soda (it still causes an insulin spike).

and like I said, if you love eating, then you should just be on a permanent bulk. but then you gotta put the effort in at the gym. it's either or. I can tell you lifting weights for the rest of your life is a lot harder than changing your psychological habits and perception of eating/food.

how many of you can actually say you sat down for a very prolonged period of time and treated it like a passion or hobby where you want to improve... like working out... except for food.

you weren't like that when you were a kid... it happened over decades. it's reversible. it will just take determination. you have to look in the mirror and hate what you see. so much so that you hate the thoughts, actions and substances that got you there.

you can do it.

and no you don't need ozempic or roids.

I will let you guys know that it wasn't just some self actualization shit.

15-20 years ago I ate shit, instant noodles every fucking day etc. I had zero clue about nutrition. obviously society is nutrition obsessed these days and I educated myself.

but more so, I saw people around me grow old and unhealthy, and I saw lots of deaths as well.

I duno if that shit doesn't scare you I duno what will.

as I approached 30 I saw more people with cancer. also all the chicks got fucking fat cuz they didnt stop sucking back their starbux. as I approach 40 the delta between those who are fit and those who didn't care... was... mind-blowing. the people that ate like shit, looked way older, cant even climb a few flights of stairs without huffing and puffing. and guaranteed they're gonna die 15-25 years younger than someone healthier.

observing the disparity between a 93 year old that can still bike around and do things themselves, vs a 70 year old that is half brain dead and crippled in a wheelchair...

watching people deteriorate and die woke me up. I don't want to die... not from some bullshit like "you didn't eat very well for the last 40 years...".

so yes... there is a major underlying factor that also drives me to do these things... fear.

and vanity. but mostly fear.

edit: and if you guys have the budget and time to go to Asia and do a FULL health inspection... it'll prob scare you even more. you WILL find shit that is wrong with you, and shit you can prevent lol. right now you're ignorant... you just don't know the half of it. you can only see what's on the scale and mirror. wait till they tell you what's wrong on the inside.

^Can you fix your avatar? It drives me fucking nuts.

I agree with you on the dieting stuff though, this is why I recommend people to try to fast, I think it's the easiest way to lose weight, or at minimum tread water weight wise if you're not super disciplined about your diet.

If you aren't the type that can meal prep, eat the same boring and bland prepped dishes, 5-6 days a week, you won't see results through exercising alone. When I competed in boxing I always had a tough time staying on my meal plans. It's same reason I never bothered doing a bodybuilding show (much to the insult of my bodybuilder buddies) even though I've always hovered not far from stage shape. Those last few pounds takes serious discipline, and if you like tasty food, good fucking luck. If you like drinking too, extra good fucking luck.

Like Ulic said, if you don't have that boring food palate, eat your tasty food, but limit your meals. You want that burger and fries? Maybe skip breakfast/lunch that day, sit in that hunger, get used to it.

i think this is the year i take IF semi-permanently. i actually dont feel hungry until 4pm. breakfast and lunch is more of a social thing for me. but with age i find myself more of a homebody and those "odd" hour dinners with friends are harder to come by. so the whole "1 meal day during a certain eating window" thing is more manageable now

I look at myself and other people have said as well I look young and have great skin, no wrinkles, etc.

People my age with 2-3 kids looking haggard af, generally out of shape, miserable lol. Tbh I don’t really blame them fuck like can’t imagine how you can find time for anything else if you e got a couple young kids

For me it's all about being able to sustain whatever your doing, I've never understand the keto thing as a long term solution. I like sugar, it's not a dirty word to me and I'm going to eat it, I try and reduce my intake but I won't stop eating it in some form.

Walking for me was the key to allow me to keep eating a little bit of shit and not being a complete fat fuck which I absolutely was for many years. If I had some photos from a few years back I'd post them but I never let anyone take them because I hated looking at myself.

This is me after the gym, I turn 50 next year. I drink in moderation, I smoke weed every single night and I cap off dinner with either some cookies or ice cream because I fucking love cookies and ice cream. I have cut down on the chips, I only buy them once in a while, that combined with walking was a game changer for me.

I went from almost 250 pounds down to 163 pounds, currently sitting at 175 +/- 3 pounds and I'm fine with it. I'm always going to have a bit of a belly, my hair fell out 20 years ago but I feel pretty good.

I think it’s moreso these restrictive ones that fail.

If it’s just calories in calories out, at least you become a little bit more familiar with your intake. When you go from eating nothing but protein to eating rice and bread again it’s almost an instant state change and everything that results from that

I think for success the big diets like keto and shit have to be a massive change to spark a smaller long term change. Being at a reasonable weight then doing it to get shredded and getting off it you're going to go right back to prior weight, but being a 5 cokes a day and Tim's for every lunch kinda guy you could cut big amounts fast, then go back to a reasonable human diet you end up finding a good happy medium. I think the drastic weight loss of jumping into the deep end makes it easier to keep swimming in the shallow end as opposed to jumping right out. It's so psychological. If I was really heavy, or when I have been way overweight, it's so much harder to stick with it when there is so little noticeable progress. It's so easy to say "fuck it I don't care I'm just gonna eat and drink whatever cause it makes no difference."

Badhobz

the human whales i saw on the cruise ship sure as hell didnt care. They were chugging back drinks like a machine and eating lbs and lbs of food like there was an incoming famine. If you get to that point then fuck it, why even try.

I think most of us are just a few lbs over here and there. Like im the fattest chinamen i know but even then its not completely outrageous. All of this is some sort of a vanity project to get into an "ideal" weight / shape when in reality, nobody gives a rats ass besides yourself. Unless youre like the above mentioned whales and you are outrageously fat.

yeah you can do it for your kids, for your spouse, etc, but as stated before its like 90% genetics and rolling dice with God. I started going to the gym in late feb this year because i was bored, then after going for a while, it turned into an addiction and i physically feel better.

Being in better shape to me is kind of like having money in the bank. I like knowing I'm capable of running up that flight of stairs, even if I'm probably not going to. Or sprinting flat out through the airport terminal because the doors are about to close (ok, actually that happens on a weekly basis). I have more energy too when I'm at my target weight.

I used to do it outside and I started slow maybe 1 Km, to 2, 3.5, 5 everyday. Eventually switched to jogging and trying to improve times.

The last year I go to the gym 4-5 days a week and I switched to treadmill, I do 2 miles (3.2km) or 3 miles just under 5km at the end of every workout (Depending how much time I have) at a speed walk pace and 7.5% incline. It's either 30 minutes or 45 minutes on the treadmill depending on distance.

What's the point of being miserable to live longer being miserable?

I actually do kind of enjoy the feeling of being hungry/fasting sometimes though, I stopped eating breakfast years ago and my energy levels went way up.

I still eat whatever I want. Just I eat in moderation. I still have fried chicken and ice cream... but i don't have it everyday. I don't even have it once a week... or even once a month. Whenever it is convenient, and I don't seek these things out. If I'm out with friends at dinner, I'm going to eat and drink whatever the fuck I want. Cuz I don't have a problem shaving it off or hitting the gym or reverting back to my "normal" food lifestyle.

You automatically call it miserable, but there are many that have developed the discipline and pride in a strict diet. Food was never a drug for me. Not like I observe in the average person. I eat till I'm full and I'm done. If I didn't need to maintain a buffer figure I'd only eat 900-1200 calories a day and stay stick thin and be in a permanent calorie deficit.

if i could eat a pill or remove the need to eat, i would do it in an instant bro. it is beneath me. I would trade food and drink for a guaranteed much longer and healthier life in an instant.

mr olympias may live very miserable lives to us, spending 4-6 hours at the gym everyday... the difference is they enjoy it.

The people that eat less or more healthy... enjoy it. like i said before, it's a psychological issue, not a diet issue. you have to want it, and feel proud of it, and desire it more than most other things in life.

At the end of the day I think genetics reign supreme, and then diet and exercise takes you the rest of the way. You can eat as healthy as you want but if every dude in your family died of cancer or a heart condition runs in the family then you're kinda fucked anyways whether you're fat or thin.

yeah that is true, but would you rather die at 60 from cancer, or be fat and unhealthy from 30 with diabetes, and die at 45-50 from cancer?

in your death bed you will embrace death, knowing you did everything you could in your power, vs wondering if you could have done more, mind full of regrets and if's and but's.

Everyone says they don't wanna be some 70-80 year old cripple, they'd rather die.

bro... bro... there are fucking 90-100 year olds that are still independent. those 70-80 year olds didn't leave very healthy lives and also probably had bad genetics. you're really gonna gamble that shit over some TASTE in your mouth?

it's a drug, you don't need to enjoy the most delicious fattening unhealthy shit on a chronic basis. it can be a treat, once a week, once a month, whatever works... just less than what it is now.

or are you waiting for the fear to kick in after you have had your first heart attack? or watch a loved one die knowing they could have been more healthy?

I'm not trying to shame or blast people into the ground. This is the attitude and mentality I have. Look in the mirror, if you feel shame or guilt or whatever it is, look at your face, frown, get angry, angry at yourself. channel that anger into useful energy. go for that run, get to the gym, throw that junk food away. whatever it is you were planning to do, JUST GET UP AND DO IT. Yell at yourself in the mirror if you have to. anyone can do it. you have to WANT IT... DO YOU WANT IT???

it sounds like everyone in this thread wants it... so what the fuck are you waiting for? what did you do today to contribute to it? It's a habitual thing that happens almost on a daily basis. like brushing your teeth and taking a shower. you can't just decide to do it a bunch and then stop. DO IT FOREVER. be a better version of yourself.

It's because I've been lifting for 20 years now, at this point I'm just cruising. I lift 5 days a week, alternating each week between heavy and hypertrophy (less weight higher reps for the joints, we're getting old). I'm not trying to get bigger anymore, concentrating more on trying to stay lean, it gets harder each year in your late 30s.

You'd be surprised how much the body can retain its size once you've settled it on.

I'm looking to drop 5-8lbs over the next month or so to get ready for a boy's trip down to Columbia in January, this was my fat ass over the last 2 weekends.

Ok I'll bite. I wrote it out in the workout training thread, but the tl;dr version:

Worked out casually for years since my mid 20s but mostly focused on strength less on hypertrophy. At my best i got up to 160lbs at 5'8" but didn't focus on aesthetics.

During COVID until last year I was pretty much in maintenance mode, but as I got older maintenance mode was slowly deteriorating as I approach my late 30s.

With work being much more balanced and flexible with hours, I decided to try to go on a full on intentional (dirty) bulk/cut cylce late last year in time for this summer, starting at ~155lbs, focusing on hypertrophy and size vs strength and a much more intentional program.

I maxed out to 172lbs with water weight by around March this year, April onwards I started on my cut. This is how far I got as of yesterday, at 158.5lbs.

https://i.imgur.com/tt1LO9x.jpeg

Given this was just maybe 9 months of work, I'm decently satisfied with the results so far being my first attempt at size, especially given I am definitely not eating clean on weekends (rather, Thurs evenings to Sundays) and still have a hard time giving up the alcohol (less beer but still on vodka sodas). I probably would be way more defined if I cut out the booze.

Looking forward to same time next year after applying what I've learned this first time around.

Usually there’s too much of a wait anyway.

I'm looking to drop 5-8lbs over the next month or so to get ready for a boy's trip down to Columbia in January, this was my fat ass over the last 2 weekends.

holy shit how much guac did you eat to gain 5lbs! do you gain weight super easily? it would take months of bad snacking for me to gain 5lbs unless i was literally just stuffing my face with chocolate every night.

Yea... i am not proud...

I got it down to 174 lbs and was real proud... than all those crazy hours to catch olympics at 2am/3am... and wife got out chips / salsa with guacamole.... i can only resist so much...

Swimming

Back to 179.2 lbs lolol fudddddggggggeeee

Really need to work hard to the next 2 weeks before the vacation start and hopefully come back under 200 loool... i guess mid Sept to Dec is still possible right?!

Going up and down 5 pounds is pretty easy, it doesn't mean you just gained all fat. I can put 5 pounds on the scale in one night if I just eat a bunch of carbs all day, most of its water weight and will go away in a day or two if you eat normally after.

Gerbs

excuse me while I eat a bucket full of durian ice cream and go see chicken lady

I can do the same, maintenance is so much easier once you get there.

Especially after a round of golf or pickleball, you burn 1,200 - 2,500 calories. Perfect time to pop an edible and dome AYCE + pint of ice cream + durian milkshake

Yes.. You got me some dirt? No wonder you fuckers blur your Asian faces :lol

Gerbs, I'm 5'9 btw.

Dark, I wouldn't sweat 3-5 lbs, the body goes up and down that amount quite normally from day to day.

You more want to deduce an overall average during a longer period of time.

This was after the cut from 235 to 205lbs before I tore my pec 3 months ago.

I can add 10-20 more lbs but I've never met another Asian dude over 6'1 that was as big as Mike. Other than one guy but was lifting for 4 years and on the sauce for 2.

I've noticed personally that I see the impact of my efforts (or lack thereof) approx 2 weeks later.

If you work out and eat well, you'll really see the results of that 2 weeks later.

Same if you eat like shit on vacation, you'll start looking a bit soft 2 weeks later.

I find my body responds to exercise quite quickly. Despite trying to troll you guys about eating late night and drinking beer, I have noticed my body has gotten a little flabby. My plan this summer was to pick up my son from daycare with my bike as much as possible to try and keep burning extra calories. He hasn't wanted me to pick up until this week where I picked him up 3 times. It's a 13min ride one way with a combination of up and down hill sections and I try my best to keep the speed up.

After 3 days of riding this week, it seem to help some of my flab, which seems like like water weight than anything.

I should get myself on a scale though.

Posted this in the parental thread before, but worth every fucking penny. He LOVES the ride. He's just about to grow out of it, maybe I can squeeze out another season next year if I lift my seat up a little more.

It's really all about routine. If you do a small amount daily like that in your routine. It's hard to become a bag of shit. The positive and the negatives extrapolated over just a few months can cause so much variation.

I’m at the Montreal airport waiting for a ride to Atlanta and I saw this interesting contraption. I paid 15 dollars for this slice of cake and I instantly threw it in the garbage. Nastiest stuff I’ve ever eaten. It’s like eating a can of frosting.

Somebody should put up warning stickers on this crap. Or at least throw caution tape around it.

140lbs is just a number i want to hit as a personal challenge. testing my short term discipline as i know 140 is not sustainable long term. ideally id like to be able to keep my weight between 145-150 all year round. walking around at 15x is a good balance between not having a gut and still being able to eat what i want. 14x is when abs and all that good stuff start showing.

Think about your caloric intake over the week and include everything on the days you drink. People rarely go off the rails with drinking alone and a "good" diet mon-fri can be negated by two days of 500-1000 extra cals two days in a row on the weekend.

Managed 5 lb or so since I posted initially by focusing on protein intake and not drinking since the 29th. Probably mostly water weight though as I’ve also focused on staying hydrated every day. Averaging about 6000-7000 steps a day I do a big loop up into North Burnaby and back home

so... my mom wanted to send photos of the cruise to our family wechat group... i know my cousin is a foodie... so I just counted.... with no repeats (and excluding all appeys and deserts) so main course for dinner only, also excluding breakfasts and lunches and snacks and shit... just for DINNER only....

I sent 51 photos.... for main courses....

That means over the 7 nights, between 4 of us, we ordere an average of 7 main courses each... and there are times where I am like oh shit.. the lamb is so good, can I grab 2nds... 3rds....

I know it is unhealty... but godddaaammnnn food was good.

Also by the 3rd night... my server was like.. YOOO JACKY, you didn't order this, but its super good...and Imma like... even just take a bite and get a taste...

In conclusion... if you are on a diet..... a cruise will fuck you up... everyone on board was a fat fuck... so I fit right in... lol....
