Popped into the auto show with my kid today, a few observations:

- It was a packed show, lotta good traffic this year. (Makes sense as I was there on the last day at mid-day)

- Being outdoorsy (real or imagined) is the pitch from most brands particularly for GMC and Chevrolet. Their displays were all full of the off road trims and camping equipment. Other brands were pushing it as well - seemed like everyone had at least a couple cars with all terrain tires. 1% of these buyers will actually do anything outdoors with their cars.

- Step-up heights are getting ridiculous with a lot of brands for their ICE cars. Yeah people want to feel like they can see the road but the visibility out of these SUVs and trucks is terrible. The rear windows are tiny slits and the heights and hoods make it so you can't see the curb or much else in front of you.

- Cadillacs seem to be big for big's sake. Their EVs are all massive for their price but packaged terribly, where'd all the space go?

- The BMW iX3 was getting a tonne of attention and looks a lot better in person than in pictures. People seem to really like it (I dig it).

- Some of the cars that were locked and just for display were odd choices - the GR86 and the Lincoln Nautilus. A few other mid-range cars were also locked.

- Getting in and out of the 3rd row of SUVs is stupid. Give me sliding doors and minivans any day. Awful packaging all around in exchange for a bit more style. Mazda, please bring back the Mazda 5 but a bit bigger.

- Nissan sure has an ugly front end design now.

- Lexus RZ for $80k? What the hell?

I think this is the ugly duckling of the entire Toyota/Lexus/Subaru line up.

I also went to the show today. Didn't get to see too much since I went with friends - they are not interested in Nissan Rogues and Mitsubishi Outlander PHEVs. I'll probably go alone next year so I can see all the cars I have 0 intention of buying.

Swag-wise I was pretty happy to get a Griots garage goodie bag - in it was a quick detail spray and a nice micofiber cloth. I also lined up for a Subaru cap to add to my collection from previous auto shows. There were Honda water bottles and other goodies, but I didn't need more water bottles at home.

My favorite car at the show was the bz woodland - it is much nicer looking than the Trailseeker.

The Lexus still rides nicer than the bz/solterra, but it's not $1000/mo lease or $30k+luxury tax more.

-also went to the Auto Show this past weekend.

This year's show is better than last year's show because we had more car manufacturers at the Convention Centre.

Highlights for me:

BMW: The boys from Bavaria brought their muscle to the show this year.

The M5 Touring wagon is a beast! One of the Beemer staff opened the hood of the car to let people take pictures of the engine. 717 hp from the twin turbo V8 engine and electric motor.

0 to 100 in 3.6 seconds. All yours for$159,149.

If I remember correctly, this is the first time that BMW staff let people sit inside the M5 at the Auto Show.

Plenty of BMW SUVs. The iX3, X3, X5, and X7 were at the show.

Did anyone who went to Auto Show sign up for the BMW contests?

I signed up for the contest in order to get some free coffee at the M Cafe.

Audi: -saw Audi's F1 car on display.

Wild custom wraps for some vehicles
: There was an RX Plug in Hybrid
with a custom wrap from Toronto artist Julia Prajza.

Another custom wrap on a GT-R for Red Bull.

Corvette ZR1:
Impressive engine. 1064 horsepower at 7000 rpm.
233 mph top speed. 5.5 litre twin turbo V8. 8 speed auto transmission.

The ZR1 is a beauty.

Lamborghini under Dilawri Group ownership brought their plug in hybrid exotics:.

Blue Lamborghini Temerario. twin turbo V8 hybrid. 902 hp. Impressive high revving engine at 10,000 rpm redline hahaa.
Light green Revuelto: Over 1000 hp for the V12 hybrid. Base price $749,384

The demo model at the show is for sale at $982,871.

Local Ferrari collector Jordan Melville (his Dad was co owner of Boston Pizza) brought his Ferrari's to the show.

Daytona SP3: Sick car!

Ferrari 488 Pista

SF 90 XX Spider in green

SF 90 Stradale in green

Classic sports cars in the Horsepower Heaven exhibit:

1989 Lamborghini Countach. A beauty!

1963 Corvette Grand Sport Tribute

Modified 1937 Ford Pickup: 500 HP engine
.

-noticed many interactive displays for people.

There was the beer pong game at MODE. Boo to the staff for not allowing a bounce of the ping pong ball to go into the cups for a chance to win Airpods!

There was an F1 simulator game and some sort of soccer exhibit there too.

CONS: Big thumbs down to Toyota.

Doors were locked for the GR Supra. Huh??

BMW lets people sit in their beast the M5 Touring wagon and Toyota won't let people sit in a GR Supra???

+1 also for Griot's Garage. The microfiber cloth and the detailing spay in their free swag bag are awesome.

+1 also for PG Performance. The bosses at PG Performance gave out licence plate holders for anyone who followed their Instagram account.

That's a good report/review ... I think they must have heard the complaints of going to a car show and not being able to sit in cars. Good for BMW!

I discovered a thing!

Anyone else with a Toyota hybrid have that annoying thing, where you reach for the EV Mode button and it says "bleep bleep mfker - EV Mode Unavailable"? Despite your hybrid battery being plenty charged, and even after a long drive?

I back into my attached garage everyday, so it sucks to have it spew fumes in there.

Anyway I realized you can shut the ICE off by sticking it in the P. And when you next go into R, the car's usually too lazy to turn the ICE back on unless you're hard on it.

I mean sometimes it'll come back. But a couple more thrusts into P usually beats it back into submission .

Install an exhaust fan you peasant

Or if your extra poor, put a box fan near the door, with a timed plug in motion sensor, each time you drive in/out, at least some air will clear out the garage

I think same chassis as the Nissan Armada, they had that monster in Nismo form at the autoshow. Absolute chonker of a car.

Unrelated, anyone know anyone at a Toyota Dealership? The parents are looking the C-HR (queue Asian cheapness trying to get that $5000 rebate).

New cars are trickling out as we get closer to NYIAS.

The new VW Atlas looks pretty solid - it's much more palatable to me than what BBM is pumping out.

New Atlas:

vs. the refreshed GLE:

I'm not really a fan of all the three-pointed stars as design motifs - it's reaching tacky-luxury levels for me.

Also, those bezels don't scream luxury at all. I'm surprised they didn't graft the hyperscreen from the GLC EV

Here's a Redline Reviews video of the Atlas for good measure:

Hard agree. Mercedes is headed in a terrible direction. The designs are starting to look real trashy.

Meanwhile Kia's getting better and better. Look at the new Seltos!!

I don't like the Android/Transformer face thing that VW is going for. I think the Tiguan with that design language is really ugly. Nice looking interior though, at least, it films/photographs well.

I like the 3 pointed star on the headlights and tail lights of the MB. The other bits not as much. That new grille design is also ugly and way too in your face. Audi has a very similar new direction with their grilles as well. I suppose they gotta out BMW? The GLE is just a facelift, overall this generation is quite ugly and blobby.

The thing with interiors that film/photograph well, they aren't always good. Circa 2018 the C classes et la had beautiful looking interiors that creaked like crazy, all the MB interiors looked great but felt terrible and creaked if you so much as dusted them.

Funny you mention this, my 2021 C43 was dead silent since I got it, but then suddenly a few weeks ago developed an annoying creak over bumps… I drove around for awhile on Calgary’s shitty ass pavement holding various panels until I figured out where it was coming from to the bottom right of the clock.

Took the dash apart and put a couple of foam pieces i had laying around in and back together and it’s all silent again!

I love the interior of this car though, every time I pick up non-car enthusiast people they all go “Wow this is such a nice car” which never happens with anything else I’ve ever owned. Everything is very satisfying to use on it… the only thing I dislike are the button blanks (I got over it) and that the screen isn’t a touch interface.
