It takes even less time to just leave your dog at home. Why bring them everywhere if they're just gonna stay in the car?
I see where you're coming from, but I err slightly to the disagreeing side.
You're your dog's best friend. He wants to hang out with you, even if he's just coming along for a ride. However, there are right and wrong ways of doing things, and in this case it could have been as simple as rolling down a window.
There's a balance to be found, between when to take your dog out and when not to. On the flip side of your question, why have a dog if you're just going to leave them at home all the time?
A dog should be a part of your family, not just a living stuffed animal that you play with whenever you have time. Adult dogs can have the intelligence of a 2-3 year old human.
Most dogs only live 13-15 years, and nothing makes them happier than being with their owner. So I'd rather take my dog out more than less.

He could have easily avoided being internet famous by just admitting he was wrong and that he will not make the mistake again and drive off. Not sure why he chose to defend himself and yell at two girls just trying to help his dog. Just plain dumb.
Anybody that leaves a dog/person in the car in hot weather with insufficient ventilation deserves to be stuck in the car in the same situation for an extended period of time.

saw this video somewhere and it left a pretty good message with me.
NFL player had to leave the car in 8 minutes and i'm sure he's probably got better conditioning than most people since he's a professional athlete. if he only lasts 8 minutes, 5 minutes for a dog is going to be pretty detrimental

Ego, pride, lack of respect for others, inability to admit fault (see ego/pride), general douchebaggery. This guy is a real winning combo and add to that trying to intimidate girls. His parents sure did one hell of a job there.

also, i leave my dog in my truck all the time but only for quick trips, ie subway run or dog food run. i never roll the window down either, i turn the truck off, lock the doors and remote start it. its dope because ive got it set to run for 10 minutes and the HVAC will run on your last settings.
so he grabs a sandwich and sits outside eating while the window still rolled up.. WTF.. ROLL THE DOWN THE DAMN WINDOW and then sit down to eat your sh|t
First of all, his initial plan was to walk into sevy, buy a sandwich and a slurpee and all that will take 5 min.
He didn't think that maybe he'll run into a friend or short changed and have to go to the ATM or even anything that would prolong his 5 min trip that could have suffocated his dog.
Secondly, he didn't plan for the weather. Who the fuck wears a jacket in a scorching summer heat?
And lastly, did he not think that there is something called the internet?
