I think everybody here knows that. Every time there is a conversation about cars, you turn it into the "why bikes are better than cars" debate. Everybody knows that bikes are faster(maybe because they weigh 25% of what a car does?)

That's a very well supported argument.

A flat engine is wide and flat. This gives it a low center of gravity.

You can find these answers on the Internet, why did you ask them? To see if I had the expertise of engines? Because your angry at me because I use grammer or something? Because I enjoy how reliable the Toyota Celica's 2ZZGE engine works?
thanks for the "TIPS"

that still doesnt explain why a 1L bike engine (inline 4) makes more hp than a 1.8L (inline 4) toyota engine.

sorry turbo, but i dont recall mentioning speed being a factor in my couple posts here.. not that i recall.

but the thing i am trying to figure out. why does my buddy's 2001 gsxr 1000 put down more hp to the wheels than your celica which has .8L more displacement.

i must disagree with everyone, celica's are a very beautiful car. and only real men drive celica's

hmmm... i find it quite funny that every person that has said something negative about redceli's celica has a car that is uglier, in worse condition, and just plain worth less.

*Whew* I seriously thought this was turning into another debate which is starting to become more and more prevalient with me :/ Anyone remember the grammer topic, or the Nelson article at all? 'eee'

When you said a 1l, GXR, is that the Suzuki GSXR that you meant? I really can't tell much about motorbikes, the only one I really prefer is the Dodge Tomahawk, with the Viper powerplant as the engine. I'll ask around with your other question: "why does my buddy's 2001 gsxr 1000 put down more hp to the wheels than your celica which has .8L more displacement."
because I honestly have no clue, Motorbike engines arn't in my knowledge.

FYI Smokey, your argument with the bike thing is pretty flawed, you say 200 HP out of 500CC is soo much better than 140 out of a 1.8 yet the Mustang is a 5.0 (4.9, whatever) and only puts out 35 more horses than that...you simply can't compare bikes to cars, no matter how you argue it

Got the reply smokey.

It's designed to make less torque and have a much higher redline. the redline is probably somewhere in the 14,000 range like my bike. HP is just a measure of torque at RPM so the higher the RPM the more HP measured for a given torque.. The engine isn't any more powerful you can just get more out of it. My bike makes 101 HP but probably only makes 40 ft/lbs. On a car that would be undrivable, on a bike it's damn quick due to the weight difference.

im not trying to step on any toe's here.. never my intension..

but i wanna know why a superbike motor puts down more ponies than an inline 4 engine in a car. i mean honestly. comparing two engines, exact same style, only difference is displacement, yet the one with less makes more hp

i am fairly confident i know the answer, just looking for support to back it up

and i got nothing against celica's :P

exactly what i thought.

i was waiting to see if anyone knew that most superbikes (inline) make 50-90 ft/lbs.. the vtwins make more, but there redline is much lower due to the configuration of a V setup

a very short bore and stroke found on all superbikes attributes to the very high reving capabilities. i mean, with a long rod, its not feasable/safe to make a longer stroke engine run at the same RMP as one with a shorter one. the r6 redlines at 15,500 RPM and makes 133hp.. torque, i dont know., probably 55-60.

longer rods, found in muscle cars atribute to a greater torque force (leverage you could say?).

i was taught how to calculate HP from a torque reading.. but i forgot how to

to prove this theory you can look at 3 classes of bikes

600
750
1000

600 - 15,500 rpm, shortest stroke, least torque, 130hp
750 - 14,500 rpm, 2nd longest stroke, 2nd most torque, 150 hp
1000 - 13,000 rpm, longest stroke, most torque, 170 hp

thanks for the confirmation

true, but those bikes aren't street, they are 2 stroke with billionaire team owners, a better comparison would b with a formuala 1 car which were making 1500+ hp from a 1.5 motor in the 70s
