btw, where do ppl dispose used charcoal after the bbq is done? so far, I'm deciding between these grills: Propane: Weber Q 100 ($169.99 at Home Depot) Charcoal Weber Charcoal Smokey Joe ($44.99-$49.99) but I think I have to buy a Chimney Starter and Charcoal Fuel Holders for the charcoal, so the prices are pretty even. when i youtubed the weber Q 100, I could barely see any flames on the grill, so is the 8,500 BTU enough for chicken meat, and other tough meat? sry for all the questions, but I only have till June 30th to get a grill. Afterwards, there will be the HST. |
How hot do you want your BBQ to be? A propane grill without lava rocks is fine if you're having small 2-3 hour BBQs and if you're not aiming to become the next Iron Chef. If your goal is to entertain a few friends over the weekend, throwing several patties, chicken wings or steaks on the grill, this is sufficient. Any hotter, your BBQ is going to be cut short and food easily overcooked. Your friends will hate you and never come back. :p Oh, and higher BTU does not equate to bigger flames. I'll let aznboi128 edumacate you on this BBQ shizzer. |

Even finding lava rocks these days is pretty difficult. The last time I used them was probably 15 years ago. They were notoriously bad for uneven heat distribution and flareups/grease absorption, they're old BBQ technology. Now it's all about heat diffuser design to keep even heat. |

um.. so I should get the weber Q 100? |
I have a Q100 for camping and its great works perfect and yes there are lots of flame more the price thats a perfect Q to get. Lave rocks is so 90's and no one uses them anymore. |

Weber Q 100 ($169.99 at Home Depot) Charcoal Weber Charcoal Smokey Joe ($44.99-$49.99) soo the wever Q 100 is perfect for this kind of occasions??? murdoc, do you have any experience with any weber charcoal smokey joe grill? http://catalog.sears.ca/wcsstore/Mas...0918_1_244.jpg charcoal grills are still a bit cheaper than propane grills, and charcoal is cheaper than propane. |
The g/f's parents have it and it's ok but for the sounds of someone like you the Q100 would be perfect. Easy to transport since the sides fold in and you can get a stand for it which makes it perfect. I will grab a pic of my old mans on the stand for you. |

These days you see things like small ceramic bricks used for this. I have this Napoleon portable that I got with AirMiles: http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brows....jsp?locale=en It's been fantastic. |
^ they are also selling that portable napoleon at costco right now. |
^Highly recommend it if you want something portable or have a small patio. Can fit a lot of burgers for a relatively small area. Very nice unit. |

One 20lb propane bottle fill costs $20 nowadays. I can get at least 4 months out of a propane bottle, grilling 3 times a week. One 8kg bag of lump charcoal costs $10, and lasts for maybe a dozen uses or less. I know charcoal briquettes are cheaper, but I would never use them. I do not want things like borax, sodium nitrate, limestone and parrafin (the ingredients of charcoal briquettes) anywhere near my food. Lump charcoal is at least made completely from hardwood, no other additive shit. |

Coleman Propane Cylinder, 3-Pk at Canadian Tire goes for $14.67. Quote:
in the end, the bag of charcoal will last longer than the 3-pack of propane. Not to mention 8.50 < 14.50. dam.. dunno which one to pick. The propane fits the type of bbqs I want, but the charcoal way is cheaper in every way (grill, resource, replacement parts). |

honestly, I'm a very lazy person, so I guess the easiness of cleaning might be the deciding factor between the weber Q 100 or the weber charcoal smokey joe. |
propane is easier to use and to keep your bbq clean. So easy to clean you need a drip tray and just a wire brush then once and a while just clean the inside which is super easy. |
should help orange7 break in his new bbq by having a meet then maybe we can go clubbing, ill bring the ear plugs LOL |
Get a Q100. My coworker has one and its on his patio. Get a refillable tank - they last a long time. Much longer than coal. Easy to clean as well. If I could do it all over again, I would buy a Q100. |

how about the "twice a year cleaning"?? wouldn't it be more of a hassle to take apart the propane grill (spark plug, propane tube, etc) to clean? |
