I forgot the model but it's at least 3 years old. I bought it because it was on sale and came with a bunch of free accessories @ London Drugs at the time and also because when we have BBQs, it's usually a BBQ for 10+ people for a good portion of the afternoon and evening, not small weekend BBQs for small groups of friends. (Did that and it was failsauce.) |
Anybody have tips to keeping the cast iron grill clean, long lasting etc... I find if I use harsh brushes it will mar up the grill and looks like it'll start to rust or something. Usually I just heat it up use a non-abrasive brush and then coat it in olive oil afterward. |

The hose you will need is a pol x qcc to adapt the bbq from the 1# tank to 20# Posted via RS Mobile |
im gonna get the smokey joe for picnics and park bbqs. how do you dispose of charcoal in areas that dont have charcoal cans? |
It's definitely worth investing in the hose adapter that'll let you use the big propane tanks instead of those little, expensive, Coleman canisters. I used to just buy those $50 grills at Costco, which only lasts a couple seasons, at the most. Usually the burner would warp and the heat spreader would completely rust through. Having bought a nice Weber charcoal for my parents' place. I figured they'd be a good choice for propane grilling on my apartment balcony. I went and bought a Weber Q100, and I am impressed. It is a quality piece of grilling equipment. It's far more powerful at half power compared to the Costco special. It'll last a long time. |

seems like it's a pain in the ass to clean once every 1-2 year? |

did you get the weber charcoal smokey joe for your parents? If so, how does it compare with the Q 100 in terms of the following: - time it takes to cook a basic beef patty - easiness of maintaining and cleaning - portability - durability btw, how much did you pay for the Q 100? |
I believe it's the One-Touch 22" that I bought for my parents. It's hard to compare against the Q100, since one is propane and the other is charcoal. The One-touch charcoal grill can definitely get much hotter than the Q100. It's also a far bigger grill, so it's more suitable for parties. Cleaning is pretty easy for the one-touch. The ash-catcher helps quite a bit. For an quick and easy way of firing up the charcoal, I recommend getting a chimney starter of some sort like the Weber Chimney Starter. No lighter fluid required. Just fill it up with charcoal, jam some paper under it and light it. In a few minutes you can pour out your red, hot coals. I do prefer the added flavor of charcoal, but the Q100 is perfect for regular, everyday grilling, especially if you live in an apartment, like I do. I probably use it 3-5 times a week. Cleaning is as easy as taking the bbq brush to the grill a few times. Grease drips into a removable tray. Having gone through several BBQs, I am now part of the Weber cult. Their BBQs are great quailty, and get the job done nicely. BTW, I paid $190 for the Weber. It wasn't on sale, but I needed a grill. Quote:

http://www.joesbbqs.com.au/images/Weber%20Q300.jpg I bought a Weber Q300 last year and I absolutely love it. Best BBQ I have ever had (always used crappier lower end brands before). Now I'm pretty much cooking whatever I can on it. |
so I've finally decided to go with the weber Q 100 for the following reasons: - good reviews from RS - a lot of you guys have it, hence if I ever have questions I can ask you ppl I'm gonna order it online. It's going for $130 at amazaon.com and other sites. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000WOTUCI/ref=asc_df_B000WOTUCI1142564?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&tag=pg-1146-100-20&linkCode=asn&creative=380341&creativeASIN=B000WOTUCI or http://www.best-price.com/product/we...02/50110928/1/ |
Decent price depending on shipping. I believe there was a price drop on the Q100, and you can get it for $160, locally. |
I use propane but love natural charcoal (not the bricks) I have never cleaned the rocks in my propane bbq so there is a good coating of charcoal on them to add the nice smoky flavor. I also make wood chip packs from hickory apple wood cherry woods etc for slow cooking for ribs and such to add nice flavor as well. |
@ target bellingham $134 plus tax, no bullshit, no shipping Quote:

wow $134 for that BBQ is insane my family is all Weber, fuck buying cheapo BBQ's that burn out in a couple years, the Weber we have is like 5 years old now and it works just like the day we bought it a buddy of mine went out and bought his dad a brand new Weber Genesis for his bday, gets up to 650 deg in under 5 minutes |
There are a lot of grills that are better value than a weber. You pay a lot for the "weber" name. I wasn't impressed with my uncle's Weber. I found the heat not as even as I would have expected a weber to be. And I'm not a fan of the cast aluminum bodies of their lower end lines, and if I'd spend the money on their full stainless steel lines I'd rather step up to a Jackson Grill or a Lynx Grill. Not only do I think Jacksons are better than Webers, but they're built in Duncan BC to boot. |
I can sell you the versa 75 made by Jackons grills. I'm the distributor for them =) I'm really happy with my Napoleon I just got it's a great bbq and top of the line but it's a whole lotta cash. The way I look at it is I may as well spend the cash now and it will last me for the rest of my life basically |
Taste the meat not the heat. Use propane. The most important part of BBQ is the person manning it. We had an elcheapo $200 gill from Zellers for over 10 years and I made burgers, steaks, and smoked ribs and they all turned great. We now have a $500 Charbroil grill and it is better but not $300 better. Also you don't need to turn of the propane when cooking. If I did that there would be no way I could cook 250 plus 1/4 burgers in 4 hours. |
