Mod of the day thread

i was thinking that it would be nice to have one of these where when we do a mod or anything different to our cars each day.. post it up so that others can get ideas for thier own modding enjoyment
and it doesnt matter how little it is, anything different could be that one thing someone else was thinking about doing but just didn't know how or etc...

anyways.. i'll start this off..
my mod of the day ( ok it was yesterday!) hacking open my airbox, it improved a hell of alot of flow and damn.. it sounds oh so nice

oh as well, today i ordered some new front brake rotors for an 89 integra ;) big brake swap could be done tomorrow if they get shipped on time!

A few days ago I repaired the mufflers on my bike for $10. I bought some fine steel wool and made a pad to cover the gaping rust holes, and then cut a section of aluminum ducting to wrap around it. A couple of hose clamps to tighten it up, and I've got a rust-proof fix that blends in with the chrome.

The sound of the bike went from :announce: to :coo:.

2 nights ago, i spent 6 hours with my buddy building a blingin custom amp rack and install for the trunk of the lude. took some creative work but looks absolutly sexy, i might snap some pics tomorrrow....its not done yet, still needs some side pieces but it looks fucken sexy....mike saw it.

today i did the full 89 integra front brake swap on my car, calipers, some blue pads(anyone know who makes blue backing plate pads?) and some new bigger rotors, i'd say the pads are about 30% bigger than my stock ones at least
end result is much better braking... just need to let the pads wear into the rotors before i get optimum braking performance

Today I cleaned my ride with footlocker leather cleaner and did a small stitch on the rear left sole, no more dirt in shoes.

i ripped my carpet outta the stang and started the mounting of the bimmer seats..

is that supposed to be a disc under all that rust??

g13b_destroyer 04-09-2004 12:52 AM

the shop leaks a little, moisture and metal = rust. its just on the surface. most cars have rusty rotors

Mine are worse. Been parked since Sept. 4th.

Canadian Rider 04-09-2004 10:07 AM

ah ok.. i honestly didn't think brakes worked like that... mine has a tiny bit of rust around the outer edge (where the pad doesn't hit) and i was told i had to get it replaced (have new rotors in my garage) are you going to re-surface those?

and btw that's a sexy rear strut :)

TurboProbe 04-09-2004 11:20 AM

Who told you that a bit of rust on the outside was a good reason to replace rotors? :wtf:

The only reason to replace rotors is warping, grooving, excessive wear, or anything else that keeps it from being a big flat disc.

For proof that rust != bad, take a look at the rotors on the cars sitting at a dealership. Brand new rotors usually have a bit of rust on them already.

Canadian Rider 04-09-2004 11:31 AM

ok maybe it wasn't the rust being the reason they had to get replaced, though the mechanic never mentioned one besides the fact that he said they looked rusty and worn... i guess is should have payed more attention to the "Worn" part rather then the rust part :p

wow g13b thats some unreal work. I've been working on a swift at school doing all sorts of suspension work but nothing quite as custom as a rear coiliver setup. that front crossmember that ties the control arm mounts together..... did u fabricate that? i guess thats called a lower strut bar?

g13b_destroyer 04-09-2004 09:19 PM

lower tie bar, it was made by a swiftracer (white swift with orange/blue stripes at knox) liam, i think he trolls around on here as 'MURR'... it actuall made the biggest difference when i put it on, i had an upper brace too, but i sold it casue it wouldnt have worked with my raised mounts.

Shane(showtime) 04-09-2004 09:54 PM

Hmm nice strut mounts, who was the guy that thought of that??? car looks you have bump travel cool.Get that thing on the road FAG

fourtirefire 04-18-2004 11:38 PM

my mods of the day today...
order k&n filter
put in sylvania siilverstar headlights (much better lighting!)
change fuel filters

girlcrazy_4 04-19-2004 12:46 PM

My mod was, Put one of those little blue halogen lights on the cart with a switch that lights up red, mounted on a clear red plastic panel rivited onto the steering columb. Zap strapped a dirty air filter on *keep out the rocks* and also re-welded and painted the front part of the cage.
