A stock MKIV Supra :o
It looks like an ad out of a car magazine from the 90's!

Shot this with my phone while doing a video with Vdub333 for this X6M
With sufficient lighting the iphone camera is actually not half bad!
I think I'd be thoroughly impressed by the 4S lol

Really? why would you guess that? it looks nothing like a composite...:suspicious:

reflections all over the car and the strength of the black would be my guess

77civic1200 11-03-2011 09:09 PM

The reflections are from him walking around light painting it?

JapaDog 11-04-2011 12:12 AM

I guess the impression came from the post process edit, the theme and the contrast on the background between the subject is too drastic, making the subject popping out too much like it's sticked onto the background instead of integrating into the whole picture.

The lighting just looks super odd! There's light under the front fender, rims are to bright compared to where the lights coming from and the passenger side window looks like a reflection of the sky. Look at the wing, it's grey.

It's just odd looking.. even if someone walked around with a light to paint in the details. It's gotta be at least composited by a few different exposures

The wing is grey only because moisture/frosting formed on it and we didnt notice it.
So what's the punch line then? It's a horrible picture...? What's wrong with using different and mutliple exposures...?

I'm sure Mana did not mean it as a criticism in any way. Even I found the picture weird where the car and the background are extremely different.

It's a cool shot nonetheless. I'm very amazed at how you took it. Mind sharing the camera, lens used, settings and lighting setup?

There's nothing wrong with using multiple exposures at all. I just trying a straight ball call out to see if I was right. It's not a horrible photo, I just didn't look right to me.

So do you wanna tell us how you took it because if you said it's straight out of camera, I call BS.

moky 11-04-2011 10:26 PM

oh no, i would never say it's straight out of the camera. i would love to say that i used 20 or 30k worth of equipment for that one shot, but no, i don't have 30k worth of lighting.

5d2 and 24-70 lens, cpl for the door, masked out all light reflections on the door because the yellow stray lights just killed it for me. used multiple exposures :D and no, i didn't shoot it daytime then wait till night.

My first shot on the last page was a blend of 9 different exposures, nobody even noticed :smug: Yours is less natural looking, but that's not a bad thing at all, it just comes down to preference. I never aim to make my shots look like a single straight out the camera shot, I feel that defeats the purpose of using the lighting to highlight the car?
