freesole, the 1st and maybe even the 2nd have crooked horizons.

The garbage can in the first is a little ugly, and the big tanker far right is a little distracting. Otherwise I like the pics!

freesole, all gorgeous shots, but the first two are really crooked. Unless you're going for the dizzy thing, you need to level out the horizons. In the case of the Brockton Lighthouse, where there isn't a flat horizon, you can use the sides of the lighthouse and the towers of the bridge as cues.

Located in San Fransisco, and It houses the body of his holyness Saint John Maximovitch of Shanghai and San Fransisco. I purposely took a 12 hour layover on my way back from vietnam to visit this chapel, and it caused alot of grief at the airport customs who thought I was trafficking drugs, because having a long layover makes you a terrorist.

His body is held where the pilgrams are praying but you can go to my flickr if you really want to see his body

All were taken with a tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 and a d300 at iso 3200.

Thanks for the feedback, definitely appreciate it. When the summer rolls around, I look forward to trying different techniques to get that shot I'm looking for.

Haha, I would love to have picked the garbage can and moved it out of the way but people would look at me funny. But I definitely see what you mean.

Definitely not going for the dizzy thing intentionally. I honestly never thought of that, but I'll keep that in mind next time I take landscape shots. If in the case of the sunset picture you can't get a straight horizon, would you just crop the photo?

Well, most software, when you rotate/straighten a photo, will auto-crop to match... those that don't, you can crop once you have it straight and level. The sunset one shouldn't be a problem - worst case, if the horizon curves, just get the ends even.

I've straightened them here using Picasa - didn't recrop, so there's still a bit of the black frame, but you get the idea:

This one, I actually went mostly off the verticals in the iron railings to get it straight - the sides of the lighthouse still look a little off because of the perspective distortion of the wide lens, but it's a lot better.

Picasa's straightening tool gives you a wide-spaced grid and then lets you fine-rotate the picture... the horizon in this case fell dead-center between two grid lines, so it was hard to get it exact, but again, it's a lot closer. The angle of the log booms actually creates a bit of an optical illusion, making it still feel more tilted than it is, but if you scroll up, you can align the horizon with the top edge of the browser window and see it's pretty much straight now.

Dunno, those aren't my pics... just my adjustments to freesole's pics from further up the page.

According to the EXIF on the second pic, he's using a 40D, shot at ISO 400, 1/400 at f/10, 44mm focal length, and the lens has a maximum aperture of f/2.8. So I'd guess it's something a 28-70 f/2.8 zoom, or something along those lines

Close The first and last picture were shot with a Tokina 11-16 f2.8. The second picture (sunset) was shot with a Canon 17-55mm f2.8 IS.

No clue... They both have EXIF data on my flickr page I think?

Damn, I really should have kept my 17-55mm... Really regret returning it.

Fixed. Next time you must add the address of the actual file name, not just the link

Example:
(remove * to post the link)
