Went for an early-morning bike ride around Stanley Park on Saturday... snapped a few pics along the way. Tracked the ride on GPSed.com as well - auto-geotagging of photos works great!

Check out the track and attached photos at http://gpsed.com/track/5372892532261537152

"How does it work" as in... how well does it work, or how does it actually function?

Geotagging is a pretty straightforward thing, and there are lots of methods to do it. Basic concept is, the timestamp on a photo is compared to the timestamp on a GPS track, so the coordinates you were at, at the time a photo was taken, can be determined and embedded in the photo's EXIF. A suitable mapping program or site (Google Earth, for example) can then attach the photo at the specific location. If you enable the proper layer in Google Earth, you'll see links to all sorts of user-submitted photos - zoom in on the Pitt River Bridge and you should see one of mine, showing a couple tugs working a log boom up the river.

GPSed.com has apps for Windows Mobile phones and iPhones that use the internal GPS in those devices, to record a track... phones with a data plan can then upload the track automatically at intervals for others to view. Later, the site can link to your Picasaweb or Flikr account for photos to attach to the track. They've done a great job of making it seamless and painless... and the service and software are free to use.

Thats a really interesting photo, it would make a great postcard. You should submit it to BC ferries.

Thanks! That was taken with the Nikon D300 + 500mm f4.

That's no BC Ferry!

Yeah, dunno if BCFC would be interested in it, but Holland America might!

Edit: found the name zooming in on the original http://www.hollandamerica.com/cruise...oard/Zuiderdam

that would be Rutger Hauer as Roy Batty from Bladerunner. And Mana, great photos. How do you deal with the lighting at such events?

very nice dj shots indeed. Did you setup your own lighting? Or just use what was there?

Matsuda, nice photo, but it feels like there should be a little more room under the door. It feels too squished to the bottom for me.

thanks, I didn't want to get lower and do the asian squat thing since I was in an alley in Chinatown, and god knows what fluids were on the ground if I were to fall over. I know, I'm a big pansy =(

What Matsuda said: Rutger Hauer from Bladerunner.

Really! I walked around for a bit before the Shy brothers went up on stage, to bad I didn't see you.

The lighting was difficult, I brought my own lights but sometimes the strobes filled my scene with red or orange and overexposing everything. It was ok, just takes sometime and a fast lens!

I brought my own lights, but I also mixed and matched between them really quickly.

Here's an example

The white lights on either end of the DJ are mine
