As someone that has been here for ten years, I think it's a sign of the times as gear as gotten so much cheaper and more accessible...and we've also gotten a hell of a lot older and (relatively) richer. Shit, I could not IMAGINE the money I spend these days when I was 19. We all know gear does not make the photo but there is certainly stuff we can do now that we simply couldn't with our cameras at the time.

I remember I had a Canon G2. Pretty sure you had a Sony? So did Levitron? Others, like Dottie and that guy that shot skateboarders shot on film and scanned. Those of us that switched to almost entirely digital...the sheer difference in gear between what was essentially a fancy point-and-shoot to the glass we have today...I mean, what the hell was bokeh back then? We were much more "f8 and be there" back then.

and Ed only had one site back then.

Ronin 12-09-2012 05:49 PM

We learned a hell of a lot more stuff too. I honestly had no fucking clue what I was doing most of the time. :lol

I like the second one! A little blurry, but great framing!

The last one was a great shot to end the series too! I like it.

holy shit, it has been 10 years...

Yes, Lev and I both had Sony 717's. Dottie had some kinda Fuji, and you were the first to get a rebel I believe. I didn't get my 10D until 2004.
I picked up a 5D Mk2 on a sweet deal last month and when I sold my 5D i looked at my original receipt. I don't think i can ever spend this much anymore on a body.
That's like one semester of my daughter's future tuition fund.

We need a retro thread :)

Ronin 12-09-2012 06:56 PM

$4k for a 5D3. :okay:

LiquidTurbo 12-09-2012 08:06 PM

Still, for what you get now, 4k back in the day got you a shit camera by today's standards.

thought i share some pics from last night. second time playing with hdr. all feedback appreciated.

I think HDR kinda ruined the shots, just my opinion, feel like HDR takes away from a very beautiful background already..

I wonder what some of the people who are no longer contributing are doing....people like Dottie, Jomo, Doc/Salar, Gopher, Dennis (Azn_angel), Roley Chu to name a few...

Roley I sometimes see, as he is a client at Beau, but I haven't seen the others for years.

Salar still post some on fb sometimes.

Dennis is living and breathing photography and design which is awesome.

Ronin 12-09-2012 08:47 PM

Yeah, I still see Dennis on FB and Instagram. Haven't seen any of those other people for forever.

I had a 717 yes - quite the camera and sometimes I still miss it quite a bit. "Guy who shot skateboarders on film" was bikerx (Jordan). I wonder what Dot is up to these days too. Last I talked to her was over two years ago and she was doing shoots for some magazine/store. Don't have her on my FB anymore. Dennis is doing design work in HK. Moved there permanently a while back.

Adorama and B&H has it for $2,990 (plus shipping and tax) after you add it to the cart.

Dot is MIA, Salar has been studying in Iran I think doing some sort of medical degree. Dennis is doing design work in Hong Kong. Domani had kids, and I moved to London.

ya I can't believe it's been so long... this thread literally saw the beginning of my career. It's incredible to see how far everyone's come along! I remember all the awesome pics from Doc, levitron, and domani always got me jelly and motivated me to run out and shoot more, good times :)

cdnav8r 12-10-2012 09:34 PM

This one was without the startrails, and I keep going back and forth, not entirely sure how much I like it.
