the right one it not. but why the difference in color? the left one looks much better than the right one. i'd say try to not crop your pictures unless necessary, |

the easiest way to make this better is probably to step back a few steps and zoom it in a bit. the angle is quite weird, and also is the direct pop-up flash on another level, the background is also quite distracting. |

The left one is photoshopped and touched up.. the right one is not.. |

^ I really like that last picture. The middle one, I find the background too distracting... |

^ well, the thing is, I dont want to get too crazy because that's how the house looks when you walk or drive by. I dont want to take a picture for 15 feet up, or right off the ground, because that's not how people realy see it. (This is a listing of ours) |
We ran our sprinklers last night for 5 minutes every two hours so they wouldn't freeze up before we got them blown today. This was the result this morning: http://img509.imageshack.us/img509/5876/img0684no9.jpg http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/4420/img0731qt3.jpg |

Focus on the house and not the entire property. You have 8 photos to put up on the MLS system so cropping in tighter so to not see the house beside it would be good. If you want to see what I do for listings just let me know and I'll show ya. :) |

Although it is not imperative that you use a 50mm+ for a portrait it is typically a more pleasing result for a head and shoulder portrait. The distortion that comes from a lens focal length of 50mm and less can be quite dramatic. This being said, I've shot some pretty neat portraits with some wide angle lenses. As a beginner, I think more importantly is that you understand what different focal lengths do to your images. When you get a good grasp of this concept you will be able to be more flexible with your portraits. Lighting is an issue, but not something you can easily get away with on a point and shoot. The only way is to use extraneous lights to light your subject and not use the built in flash. This can sometimes be cumbersome or not really viable. Another alternative would be to use natural lighting such as the sun through a window. There are so many types of lights and to go into that discussion is a whole other matter. For you personally I would suggest using the furthest zoom you have to take portraits. It may mean you will have to stand further back, but for now start there. Once you start posting some more I'll slowly add to the critique. |
