It's lens flare. Happens when you shoot into the sun or if there is a bright source of light near your frame. Get rid of it by... not shooting into the sun.

ok thanks

Awsome!!!

are you using any back-lighting on those or anything? mind sharing the settings? im very interested in star trails

Senna4ever 04-10-2013 03:54 AM

What do you mean by backlighting?

Most of the shots were at f8, 400 ISO.

Like was it pitch black all light shown came from the surroundings and stars?

Guess that was other photos not super long exposures like these but I thought I recall some people here saying they had used an iPhone/flashlight for a light source behind the camera?

Hey Senna, let me know the next time you go up! I'd love to join, it's just freaky as heck when you are all alone in pitch black..

Matsuda 04-10-2013 07:46 PM

Because you afraid of the dark!

The dock was lit by the cars coming in & out of the parking lot and by the parking lot lights. The mountains were lit by the rising full Moon. I timed the start of my images with the Moon rise because I didn't want to blow out the snow on the mountains.

Yeah, I lit the foreground of one of my long exposures with my iPhone LED...not sure how much effect it had though.

5DmkIII battery failed after about 2 hours of continuous shooting, but the 1DX still had about 60%...not too shabby...
