it does generally suck

I've worked there for a little over three years now. While the pay is pretty decent (actually, it's excellent considering I work only on weekends) - top rate with full merrit is around $24-25/hr, the job itself is -extremely- monotonious. It's not just "boring", it really puts a whole new meaning to idea of "brain-dead work". Box, sticker, board. Box, sticker, board. Box sticker, board.... 7-800 times/day.

People are for the most-part pretty easy to get along with

The job itself, physically, is pretty rough on your body. Whoever the original poster is has obviously never picked in the cooler or freezer before, saying that he rarely picks cases over 20lbs. I picked 45 cases of frozen fries today, 20 cases of NYF potatoes - in a 4hr shift.

You do get free forklift training after a few months if you nag them enough.

Toyota Rice, S17, anybody else that works for Slave Camp Neptunistan, gimmie a shout sometime. I'm "Kelvin", you'll see me running a cooler forklift from 3pm -> 11pm on Sundays - usually in isles 22/23 or 24/25

Everybody in the warehouse (all pickers, recievers, restockers - even management) makes the same pay. It's all based on hours and raises, not job position.

$12/hr (base) to start
$0.50/hr for working night shift
$0.50/hr for working in the cooler
$1.25/hr for working in the freezer
$0.75/hr if you're a lead-hand

So, if you're fresh in the door, you'll start at $12.00(base) + $0.50(nights) = 12.50/hr. If you pick in the freezer, you'll make $13.75/hr.

Raises are roughly $1.60/hr each raise, and they come pretty fast - every 480 hours if i remember correctly.

What ever you do, try your best to ignore their nagging about performance (the % number on the computer) and focus your energy into pick accuracy. If you make many errors, consider yourself fired. If you are simply slow... nothing happens - they'll just nag you somewhat. Accuracy > speed.

The wage for Neptunes is higher now isn't it? What is it? I think it might be $16. I worked at Western Grocers for a year, 3 years ago. Will it be worth it to work at Neptunes? Still the same boring working environment? Wage making up for it?
