eaxch $8 bump to $25. up to the value of the console. so if u have 12 games, then it's no extra charge.
I just did it again today. 7 games for DSi with little extra money on top. It's on their in-store flyer.
There's a lot of promotion going on this week too. Rachet and Clank : crack in time is $20 brand new or $15 used. Lego Rockband is $10 or $7.50 used. Fight Night Round 4 is also $10.
Most PS3 file can be transferred easily. it's actually easier than xbox imo. but there's 1 game i cant transfer which is Little Big Planet. havent got time to figure it out yet.
Trophies are on the psn, therefore, no need to transfer.

also be sure to disassociate (or whatever it's called) any purchased content from that console.

does anyone know what's the best way to back up data?
i tried back-up utility but it says copy-protected files may not transfer over.
I looked into data transfer but you need to have your new ps3 to do it...but i wish to somehow save this on an external HDD first.
would data transfer work if i transfer everything to my friend's ps3 first, then transfer it back to a new ps3? or would it mess up his data?

I tried searching this thread to no avail so I have a question:
Some of the torrent movies I've downloaded are in MKV format and the PS3 doesn't recognize them. Simply changing the file extensions doesn't seem to work unless there's some extension I don't know about that people know will work. How else can I get these files to play on my PS3?
On a semi-related note, I have a 1TB external HD. It won't let me copy over individual files great than 4GB in size, but I can copy over many many GB worth of files at a time as long as they're under 4GB. Is there any way I can get around or change that file size limit?

U need mkvtovob. Remux it takes very short time. 2 hours mkv takes 5 minutes or so.

I am not aware of getting around the size, its just a limitation of FAT32.

Is there any way I can get around or change that file size limit? | As stated, use MKV2VOB. You can set it to split the file into 4GB sections (PS3 will only recognize external devices formatted in FAT32, which has a inherent 4GB limit for filesize) or you can cheat and use PS3 Media Server to send the files from your computer to PS3, this method allows files larger than 4GB to be transferred.
If you download movies, try searching for "<title> PS3" as there are groups out there tht do BR rips specifically for the PS3, so the files are 3.99 or 4.00GB in size, and in the .m2ts format (the format used by BR discs, DVD uses .vob)

Thanks for the Media Server 'glitch' I'll give that a shot. Haven't seen you playing MW2 much lately!

Basically, install this onto your PC: http://ps3mediaserver.blogspot.com/
no more MKV2VOB, no more file splitting, and no more headaches!
This will convert the movie on the fly (while you watch). The best part is it can do multi-channel audio!
The only limitations are:
- You need at least a Core2Duo processor to stream HD content to your PS3
- Wifi connected PS3s can only do up to 720p before you start running out of bandwidth. (wire it in!)
- You still can't fast forward at crazy speeds, but you can scene jump (press square). or if you're patient, 2x FF/RW works.

My computer is right next to my PS3 and TV. I just piggyback all my videos on a 1TB external. I might look into wiring my PS3 in (just using wifi right now) when I have time but for now going from USB plug to USB plug isn't that much work |

With the media server, you no longer have to convert mkvs (or any format) to work with ps3, nor do you have to file split into 4gb sizes
But whatever works for you. Posted via RS Mobile |

Haven't seen you playing MW2 much lately! | No problem, I used that for my 12GB rip of Transformers (I lost the disc :'() and it worked great. One of these days I'll find out what format a PS3 drive uses and see if I can find a way around that pesky 4GB limit, though it wouldn't surprise me if Sony has a special one not compatible with comps or something. I still play MW2 but not as often anymore, spending too much time with the g/f haha. Mostly HCTDM again, was using Ground War to kill rewards :P Quote:

Although I'm not too sure you even know what you're talking about, I've run 1080p over wifi using a Sempron 3800, and the PS3 fast forwards at 1.5x, then jumps to 10x, there is no 2x option...
