sc1 didn't have graphics ahead for it's time, it was behind its time.

infact all blizzard games had graphics behind their times.

Obviously some of you aren't the hardcore RTS fan because otherwise why are you even mentioning graphics. The StarCraft series was never about having the latest graphics engine with all the glitz, if you want eye candy go play Crysis.

I don't doubt the graphics, but there's just a whole lot of shit going on, and it's not as easy to see as

It probably will take some time to get used to, but still, I hope the real game,
you can zoom out a lot more than that. The units are blending in with the terrain way too much.

These pictures are eye-candy, but since I'm such a hardcore SC fan, I tend to look beyond the graphics and try to visualize how the gameplay is gonna be like.
So far, I wouldn't be surprised if this game doesn't surpass the first. And the fact now you can select multiple buildings at once, SC2 is like SC for noobs.

of course im not
but if you've waited over 11-12 years for a game the graphics better be top notch

All I got from your entire post was that you suck at micro-management. Oh, I have no doubts that it will surpass the original, but thats only because I've been a Blizzard Fan-boy since the original Warcraft, and have played every one of their games to death.

AzNightmare 08-09-2009 11:34 PM

Seeing is one thing. Micro-ing is a whole different thing. How does that even relate? There is more than just eye-candy in a video game.
All I got from your post is that you suck at reading.

Blizzard always goes for the stylized but yet can be run on dated machines, look at wow if they had cutting edge graphics they would have never reached 12 million subs!

if you want an excellent RTS with breathtaking graphics check out the Company of Heroes series (GOTY many times) its made by Relic who are local in Vancouver! or Dawn of War 2 (not my style, but same engine as CoH)

AzNightmare 08-09-2009 11:44 PM

Blizzard tends to go in the more cartoony theme for their graphics. So often their units and structures aren't proportional, but it's alright with me. Because they have the best fun factor.
There's a bunch of other RTS games which are fun. And StarCraft is just in a legaue on it's own.

Once you play the game a couple of times, your brain filters out the unnecessary stuff... I'm sure SC2 looks like a lot of clutter now but I'm sure it'll clear up as you play.

I can remember when I played SC for the first time and I couldn't tell the difference between all the Terran/Zerg buildings.

i'm not even going to think about when d3 is going to be released

MaximalLazy 01-29-2010 09:59 AM

All of Blizzard's games have yet fail to impress.

They don't release something until it beats the crap out of every other game out there.

Starcraft Ghost???

UPDATE: Blizzard just called to let us know that the system specs released on the page were not the system specs for the StarCraft II beta test. They are still trying to track down how the page appeared on the company's support site, suspecting that someone pasted specs from World of Warcraft into a new article. The link below is now dead, and Blizzard has a lot of phone calls to make.

Blizzard informed us that the real specs will most likely be released via a FAQ or the support site once the beta dates are announced.

Incidentally, Blizzard's Bob Colayco sounds an awful lot like a bill collector, and this update nearly didn't happen.

Seems like the specs earlier for World of Warcraft haha.

twitchyzero 01-29-2010 08:37 PM

everytime this thread gets bumped the title always cracks me up
and yes a 2006 system will still run this game pretty smoothly it seems.

wouwou 01-29-2010 10:50 PM

I am sure I will play this game with my 3 months old daughter.

in 18 YEARS.

impactX 01-31-2010 10:40 PM

Activision Blizzard's 8-K filing from last year said that SC II will be released in the first half of 2010. At least it's less than 5 months...? lol

twitchyzero 02-10-2010 10:09 PM

bump
already been said in the current sc thread
http://kotaku.com/5469024/starcraft-...yline=true&s=i

So my friend just told me that he received a Beta Invite via email for SCII, I was a little skeptical as I hadn't seen anything official until now!!!!

Starcraft II Closed Beta Launching This Month
Blizzard eyeing mid-2010 release, digital version coming.

February 10, 2010 - The wait for Starcraft fans is almost over.

During Activision's financial 2009 earnings call this afternoon, Blizzard president and co-founder Mike Morhaime announced the closed beta for StarCraft II will launch towards the end of February.

The title is still on track for a mid-2010 release. The beta will also help Blizzard test and optimize its new Battle.net service, which it plans to launch and implement in all future Blizzard game titles.

A digital version of Starcraft II is also set to be available for purchase off Battle.net.
