will give a feedback on it once i get it and test it

the alienbees arent much cheaper...

for a good 2 head kit

2x B800 (320W each) @ 279.95ea = 559.90
1x Vagabond 150 @ 349.95 = 349.95
2x LS3050 @ 39.95ea = 79.90

then two umbrellas and a case and you're at $1100 usd, which is $1500 cdn by the time you do exchange rate and tax. The B400s are not nearly as good and only $50 cheaper, the battery is their cheapest battery they produce... I dont know why people seem to think they are so cheap, there a bunch of kits at this price range.

Meowjin 11-07-2006 12:13 PM

Your on crack.

http://www.alienbees.com/digi.html

700, and add 350 for the vagabond.

and if you really cheap just make your own with a car battery.

barely and exchange rate and no dutie as they are made in the USA.

compared to the 800 dollars ive been seeing for 1 strobe, no wonder why people keep saying its cheaper.

lowside67 11-07-2006 12:19 PM

... $599usd + $350usd = $950usd.

$950usd x 1.13 exc rate = $1073.50

$1073.50 x 113% GST/PST = $1213.06

and thats for the baby strobes.

2x 300W monolights, battery, *wireless trigger system*, soft box, umbrelle, stands, case, barndoors, color filters... $1299.99 @ Lens & Shutter.

add 110 dollars for the b800's and you get for 1300.

With the opus you get 300watt ones. How much to upgrade both of them to 800? And opus aint that great.

The battery only has one AC connection, and the lights arn't fan cooled. It also has a recycle time of 3 seconds. While the alienbees are 1 second. And the flash output on the opus one is very manual.

And whos to say you need a battery, especially if you are going to be using it indoors.

lowside67 11-07-2006 01:22 PM

Actually, the B800s are 800W max, 320W effective - virtually identical to the Opus setup.

Regardless, the point I wanted to make is I was just confused while everybody says the Alien Bee stuff is so cheap when I find it to be priced equally with other stuff.

Meowjin 11-07-2006 08:51 PM

Back that up tomaz ;)

ramir 11-07-2006 11:09 PM

yeah the alien bees has a built in cooling fan and the recycle time actually says .5 seconds and not 1 second

Senna4ever 11-08-2006 12:05 AM

It can be cheaper if you use some wireless flashes, but oh yeah...Canon doesn't have a decent wireless flash system! :p

Meowjin 11-08-2006 12:36 AM

d200 is looking awfully good with its 5 fps.

Pocket wizards ftw.

What, me dissing Canon's wireless flash system? Hmph...they're still behind Minolta's wireless flash technology circa 1993. Nikon's just caught up to it.

ramir 11-08-2006 11:11 PM

ok just tested the light, quite pleased with it and actually pretty powerfull...

Amuse 11-08-2006 11:55 PM

K-Dub 11-15-2006 07:27 PM

JeffreyChan: Hey Kevin, do you have the flash?
Me: Nope, I'm still using it. Why?
J: Well I have to retake some team pictures.. they turned out all GRADIENT...
Me: Um..what?
J: The pictures, they're all very GRADIENT.
Me: Do you mean GRAINY?
J: Yea.. that. Let me show you.
(shows me Nikon D200 @ 1000ISO... getting about 60 shutter speed with f3.5)
Me: That's fine if you're taking team portraits..and stop turning the flash on, your iso's already so high it ruins it.
J: Alright..bye

couldnt resist sharing this..btw this guys a total fuckwit.. takes tons of pictures that are shite and never spends any time @ the computers looking/editting.. never seen him open photoshop to even do anything..i dont think he knows what contrast brightness saturation levels are..

Meowjin 11-15-2006 09:42 PM
