i've been checking out this N8 photo group on flickr and i saw some fantastic pics and i've been trying to mimic some shots ive seen but i can't get it right at all

something like this
http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6088/...a5fe17db_b.jpg

i asked the guy how he took it and he simply said he used a Nikon Filter and Secret Settings with his N8 and wouldn't divulge anything else :/

i'd love to learn how to take pics like that but ive got no clue where to start and i doubt popping a filter in front of my phone will suddenly let me take pics like that and i wouldn't know what kind of filter to use
(plus im not about to spend that kinda cash for filters for a phone :/)

any tips suggestions would be very much appreciated ^^

Hard to believe that the image is from a cell phone imaging sensor. Seeing as there's no actual zoom he would've had to have been really really close to get that picture. Don't know if details like that are possible or not.

StylinRed 08-18-2011 05:07 PM

well that's part of the reason as to why i love my N8 its got a 1/1.83" sensor (larger than any p&s at the time it was announced) and there's been a whole slew of macro shots like that from other users (its rated the best camera phone)

but try as i might (i even tried one of those cell phone lens attachments but they suck) i've got no skill

but is a shot like that simply the lens+filters? what kind of photoshop skills are required

where do i start? :(

it's time to produce some prints. so, looking for a printer and any suggestions would be great. i should start out with a modest model, say $400-$500? is that even enough to spend for something decent? obviously i want print quality but ink issues are always a concern. thanks.

The EPSON R2000 is an amazing printer for about $500. If you can afford it, the new R3000 (about $875) is stunning - I'm thinking of buying one myself.

bit worried about getting a new printer as i'll be switching to Windows 8 ASAP , and there could be driver issues. hmmmm, what to do.

Shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Man, lost my NEX 18-55mm Lens hood! Sony doesn't even sell it themselves which is lame! Would like the genuine one cause it has the stupid pretty red dot!

Senna4ever 09-16-2011 06:03 PM

What? Really? Can't the Sony Store order the part for you??

N.V.M. 09-16-2011 07:08 PM

weird, i just looked around. lots of third party hoods. only good news it's less than $20 for a non-Sony hood.

skyxx 09-17-2011 09:09 AM

I have some minor ocd so I kinda want my lens hood to be Genuine. I called up sony, then they sent me to Sony Parts/support. I gave them the part # too, ALC-SH112. I assume calling Sony directly would aid better results. I'll try In store and order it through there. If that doesn't work, I'll buy those 5-10 dollar third party ones.

Update: Looks like Sony Store themselves can't even order it either! Pft, it's like it's obsolete or something. :lol Time to go with fleabay I guess.

anyone know if a vintage canon 50mm would fit on a 60d??

Senna4ever 09-18-2011 10:05 PM

What do you mean by "vintage"? A Canon rangefinder lens will not fit period, but an FD (manual focus) lens will fit with an adapter, but you will lose image quality as the adapter has an optical element.
