i absolutely agree with you.

its true the 20D is a better camera,

but the fact is that its priced as a better camera.

so u can't directly say that the 20D beats the XT like that,

because that's the actual reason why its priced like that.

its like comparing two stocks, where one pays more dividend than the other

and the higher dividend stock is priced more expensive.

so u can't really say the higher dividend paying stock is better,

becasue its higher price has taken account the advantages.

and yes, being a XT user, i absolutely agree with you that the 20D would be a better camera.

but then for the price differnece i got a 17-40mm lens, so in a way i was better off too!

of course, if u don't really care about the price difference, it'd be rational to get the better (more expensive) one.

anyway, congrads on a new camera and happy photography.

=)

^^ thanks

As for lenses, I was thinking the Canon 28-105 as a standard lens, and the 75-300 for zoom. I want to get something for macro also. Do those lenses sound alright, or should I get something else (save for something nicer)? Recommendation on a good macro?

I'll keep that in mind.

Originally I thought it would be a good accessory to have, but after reading that the 20d can take 1000 pics on a single battery, it might not be needed. Time will tell though

Yeah. I figure that I got the 17-40L and 70-200L, so I own the guy with 1DsM2 with my 20D.

well

if you put a shitty lens on a 1Ds, your shots won't necessarily be better than the same shots coming from a 20D + 16-35

Personally I'd rather have a GOOD camera but with top grade lenses than to have a GREAT camera with so-so lenses - given the same budget, that is.

Polarizer and maybe 2x...

but honest truth... dont buy anything. You'll use the camera for a year or two then want to buy a new one. Once your done with this camera all the stuff needs to stay with it.

the 28-105 as a normal lens isnt' wide enough at all

it won't be wide enough even for casual group shots, indoor shots, etc

28mm is almost a standard 50mm-e lens

but it depends on what u shoot i guess,

but i am pretty sure u need a moderately wide lens for everyday use.

something around 24mm (38mm-e)

is prety much the least u'd need

Hey guys... advice please.

I'm a noob with a tiny point and shoot (canon sd200).

I'm either looking at a S2/3 or a d50.

I just took out an olympus dslr for a day and using it without much photography knowledge just trail and error with every setting. I also took my point and shoot out to take the same picture.

In every situation (I'm not surprised) my point and shoot looks nicer than my dslr. I don't know what I am doing so that is why. Would you still recommend a dslr for me to grow into even if I totally suck right now (taking nicer pictures with AUTO with a pocket camera).

I'm thinking of getting a S2/3 because its a medium step from a point and shoot.

Those point and shoots usually have saturated colours already after you take your picture. Pics from a DSLR allows you the freedom to post-process to your liking.

For one thing, you should notice wider dynamic range with the Oly or any other dSLR. P&S cameras apply sharpening, contrast & saturation to your images. The dSLR does not. That is why the images don't look as good as your SD200. If you do the proper post-processing, the images from any dSLR will look MUCH better. A lot has to do with the physcal size of the sensors....the larger sensors use larger pixels, which mean better light gathering.

hehe darksun, thanks for the offer, but my camera came with the accessory kit which included a very nice Lowepro bag, BG-E2 grip and an extra battery

AND my camera came last night!! Didn't get a chance to take any pics though . I was prepping my car for SCN and started running into alternator problems so I was working until 10 at night fixing it, then after that I had to pack up my car and head to bed. Only shots I took were a few of my garage as I was putting the camera in my car.

Canon SD450 vs SD600?

Besides the obvious (yet slight) differences in megapixels (450 has 5MP while the 600 has 6MP) and the ISO800 capabilities of the SD600, can anyone comment on the difference? It's about a $50 difference in price, so I'm debating whether or not it's worth the additional invesment to get the newer model (SD600).

I was looking at those 2 and I ended up getting a panasonic fz7. The fz7 has more noise but its worth a look. LD has it for 30 off and a free photo printer.

B&H photo.... since the canadain dollar is so high right now. They don't charge you import duties on camera related things...

$314.95 > $349.38
USD to Canadain

Futureshop > 599.99 before tax

Shipping and everything wont be more then 40-50 dollars. No matter how you look at it, huge savings to buy from the states right now.

Can anyone suggest any good camera's (new or used..preferably used) under $400. Must be 5.0 megapixels or higher, 2.5 LCD screen. I've been gravitating the Canon SD series...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

And sofresh, buy an s2is... used, If you want photography for a budget.. but if you want a point of shoot, get the new canon slim ones with the IS lens... I remember picking those items for stores.

SD700 IS is the P&S with IS.

Not sure how useful ISO800 will be in such a small sensor. Pictures must have so much noise or be super soft with all the processing.

Well think of it this way. If you're planning to resell it as used, then the 600 would worth more. There is also a function back in the 450 which is called "color accent" What it does is like for example change a yellow shirt to red. It does a color swap in real time. On the 600 however you can color change AFTER the pic was taken.

Might not be a big function, but it is a change :P
