The Hunt

Tons of action with some comedy mixed in. I enjoyed it quite a bit and the 1.5 hours flew by.

8/10

Spike Lee epic film.
Da 5 bloods.

I did NOT think it was what the rave was all about. It's a 2.5 hr long movie btw.
5 African american old gheezers going back to Vietnam to find one of their lost commander who dies back in the 60s? The catch was that there was a treasure...

There are some artistic take on filming in diff lighting as well as some struggles of history (Black people fighting a US Viet war and the were taken advantaged of etc), PTSD, families, God, stress, father and son conflicts... ALL solid struggles / topics, just didn't need to be addressed within ONE movie (hence 2.5 hrs); tried to cover everything at times backfires.

Few interesting note.
1) no CGI, no makeup during time lines..... there ain't no wigs trying to play during flashbacks of 20yr old solider versus 60yr old... so that's a change
2) When they do flash backs, the film shifts to film stocks and aspect ratios changes to showcase the different time / era / flashback... pretty interesting take.

Legit premise, decent soundtrack and some decent acting.
What sucked was.
a) Too long, there are no "boring" moments but some just dragged on for a tad too long.
b) Monologues by Delroy Lindo (most famous movie he was in was The Core, The One (Jet li) etc.. were really SOLID acting and emotions, BUT totally NOT necessary. Again, Spike Lee's fault to say the least.
c) NO COMMON SENSE at all: Team goes back to Vietnam 30/40 yrs later to hunt for a buried commander + gold but it looks like these guys are out hiking Garibaldi with a overnight pack only... wtf. One shot of Garmin GPS with a paper map, one made in china shovel, and again...army & navy 30L backpack ahhahhha. No tents, no guns, no food, just 750ml water bottle is all that's needed... wtf. Had a good laugh at those.

If you're a spike lee's fan.. sure... maybe a 7/10 for me as I appreciated the minor things, for a normal person, I would be surprised to see someone invest 2.5 hrs and give it more than a 6/10

Was looking forward to that one, Delroy Lindo is one of my favourite actors, so it's great to see him in a "legit" movie

Watched it last night. Definitely an “interesting” film but ya.. it was a weird one too.

Delroy’s voice suddenly changing octaves into a much deeper tone made the wife and I lol more than once. Overall it’s watchable but there are peculiar moments that had us looking at each other like wtf.. she even questioned if it was actually a Spike Lee film it was so bizarre at times.

Great googily moogily!

Just Mercy: 9/10

True story about a pro bono lawyer in Alabama fighting for a black man on death row. So fucked to watch the injustices they faced.

Especially poignant with the movements going on today, probably why Cineplex made it free to rent:

Oh, watched this last week too. I thought M Jordan was ok in the film; a bit of an emotionless look / acting the whole movie. The entire cast over shadowed him to say the least. Everyone else was good for a change.

da 5 blood
6/10.

Effects and all were good but the ending really dragged on enough to lose interest and wanting to rush its all over, there wasn't any story development and it was just legit people sitting around.

it fell flat half ways imo

The King of Staten Island with Pete Davidson and Bill Burr actually wasn't to bad, had some laughs but it's not an outright comedy.

It was one of those movies that my wife and myself could both watch without either of us being bored, usually it's hard to find something we both like.

I thought the King of Staten Island was really good and is based on Pete's life as well. I normally don't like his acting but I really enjoyed it in this movie and the way his character grew through the movie. I stayed entertained and it was much better then I thought

For a china movie, it's actually not bad. Not even going to care about how the script plays out because there are already hand full of film with exactly the same formula.

the female lead, happens to be a 10 yr old girl. She did an amazing job with tears and just being a daddy's girl.

Filming + directing was decent, just the boxing formulas has bee done to death. People praised it for epic crying + tear jerking + sad movie, but all in all... meh

7/10 for chinese movie to say the lesat.

The Battle of Jangsari
100% Korean film about korean battle. opening scene is exactly saving private ryan. man it's been a while since we have seen the action scene on the beach.

Summary: a group of kids on a mission (1950-54) fighting north korea; totally a suicide but heck, no one will give a shit cause, they are just kids.

Some minor story lines, which are all WELL put together. Script is solid, acting is good, just subtitles for those who watches it.

Funny fact, i watched the ENTIRE movie, and then not until i put up this post, realize it was megan fox. Hilarious.

8/10 for a brainless but solid feels of war time movie.

Producer + video guy + screen play + staring himself...
summary. husband and wife bought a farm in cali .... and tried to be farmers and all started with a dog called Todd.

The film profiles the life of Chester and his wife Molly as they acquire and establish themselves on Apricot Lane Farms in Moorpark, California.

Extremely amazing script + documentary, so much fun, such a happy go warm heart feeling of what life / circle of life / nature is all about.

Yes it's about a farm but heck it's smacking lovely feeling when a movie about farming just works.

solid 9 / 10

Documentary about a lady who is a honey farmer taking care of mother.

Focused on climate change, biodiversity loss, and exploitation of natural resources, shitty human nature (profit versus nature).

Can't say it's the best documentary; I didn't even know North Macedonia was and had to google.

I "learned" a lot from bee keeping but compared to Biggest Little Farm, this was much more inferior.

It's fantastic, and translated to the screen very well. The live performance must have been amazing.

The Old Guard, released JUl 10, pretty legit movie to say the least.
Mindless 2 hours of action, thank GOODNESS they didn't over do the John Wick type action sequence.
A few plot holes (and a few wtf unnecessary moments) here and there, as to all movies, but they did a solid job.

I do hope they bring out a sequel as it wouldn't be a bad idea.
8/10 I would stay away from watching previews as it pretty much showcase 99% of the movie suspense ... haaahaha

Relic 8/10

New horror movie that was released yesterday. Great movie, very well done in building up the suspense. Its a slow burner but it's meant to be, and the way it slowly builds up with every scene was so well done that it kept me anxious the entire time. It feels like it's been a long time since I've felt this way about a horror movie. Couple of nit picking but overall very well done, especially for a debut director.

Disclaimer: This movie is an art house / passion project

I won't say too much about this movie other than read the synopsis and then watch it, preferably at night. The movie isn't great but it's not bad. Some disturbing scenes but I'm okay with that. I'm tired of obvious intersectional BS quotas in movies. Just give me a damn movie that represents the director's vision. This one does it albeit being a passion project, it won't reach everyone but it certainly resonated with me.

7/10

Spoiler!

Ju-On: Origins on "netflix"

you might think it tries too hard for shock factor or isn't scary at all while watching it in the daylight.

it had my skin creeping at 2 am in the pitch black room, little scary but nothing super creepy,Fucked Up scenes yes...but overall 7/10..
its alright as a horror fan and doesn't really deserve the 3/10 some "Expert" reviews gave it. i kinda enjoyed it since i haven't seen anything scary in months i might've turned into my.softy since i wasn't mentally strong and saying "this isn't scary at all"..

i'm a sucker for sci-fi, and this is a small time production movie.
Archive: Can only give it a 6.5 / 10 cause it was slow and uneventful; even though the ending was ok.

Bit slow, tad unwhelming, but it was something to watch on Netflix...
The director is trying to wow us with a great ending but it might be too difficult to understand for the normal netflix watches.

Good concept, bit of human emotions along with a dash of sci fi.

If you had to compare to Ex Machina... this one is flat.

This movie just shows you don't need crazy cast, you don't future crazy CGI to make a movie "epic". A superb script + good movie / film editing as well as a good score makes and a movie.

Tom just does a solid job of being himself and honestly, made the whole movie.

Holy F the movie had a budget of 50M, and the director is just a newbie... great movie. 8.5/10
I couldn't find to many loop holes but I'm sure playing battle ships ain't like driving a car (even though it looked like it was easy maneuvers).
