Not sure what to think of this, but I'm sure most of us will go see it anyway:

Plane 5/10

Decent action scenes. Not terrible.

Seeking advice of Revscene:

Fast & Curious franchise - My wife now has seen Fast & Furious 1 and 2 and wants to continue watching the series.

Her question is: Should we watch the series in chronological order of the story? Or in the same order the movies were released? I have not seen the entire series so I'm in the same boat.

Thanks in advance

whitev70r 02-12-2023 12:46 PM

Advice is to stop now .. after 2. Don't watch anymore.

bcrdukes 02-12-2023 07:38 PM

Watch Tokyo Drift, for what it is... I think it's not bad

Everything else is straight trash

Watching it in the order of release is fine. The series is not that "smart".
The earlier movies weren't preplanned as a big franchise so events get shoehorned or retro in the later movies anyway, but watching it in release order keeps some of the elements of surprise (aka wtf bullshit moments).

But FF1, FF2, and Tokyo Drift are very different from the rest of the series. The first 3 movies are basically car movies. FF4 and beyond shift into more of a heist/action genre, with cars.

So it really depends what you're looking for, and expectation. A lot of people aren't going to like that genre shift, which is why you're getting the posts in here. They're all going to have the same cringy dialogue. The action and stunts get pretty ridiculous as the movies go on. I personally really enjoyed FF6, and FF7 was actually a good movie. But it's the peak of the franchise. (8 and 9 was meh)

As mentioned, it's really all based on your expectations. The latest movies are really over-the-top, and in a way, it's purposely staying "true" to what it's now known for. Sort of like how Michael Bay is known to have excessive explosions in his movies. FF's signature is now to include a lot of over-the-top moments. You either love it or hate it.

But there's definitely a shift in genre from being an exclusive car movie for car enthusiasts, to a more generic action movie, with cars... and a shitload of other vehicles...

Big mistake on their part by not doing so.

Either way, they're not getting me in the theater again to watch Africans riding rhinos and elephants into battle while throwing goddamn vibranium spears.

I just watched Wakanda Forever on the weekend, I'm a little confused by your last comment? There was no animal riding in the movie, it was all super high tech helicopter jets and stuff. The warriors themselves tend to use spears or staffs as personal defense/attack weapons rather than guns but the there was no riding animals into battle anywhere?

I felt like personally the issue that I ended up having with the movie (wasn't even my idea to be honest, my gf mentioned it) besides the fact that it wasn't really a great movie was that my gf mentioned that, having lived in the USA for almost 2 decades, she was mystified at why when one minority finally succeeds in making an epic movie or show happen (not just Wakanda I suppose), they end up always portraying another minority (in this case, South Americans/Latino people) as violent and not of sound mind while their society is egalitarian and "right" and I could kind of see her point.

Gotta watch Tokyo Drift. Those three movies are classic F&F, all went downhill after #4.

Mr.Money 02-13-2023 09:32 AM

when vin diesel started jumping car to car at 200 mph and fuel tankers flipping over his car.

that's when i stopped watching and knew the series was fucked.

Antman and the Wasp Quantumania 6.5 / 10

Kicked starting of Phase 5
It was decent. My expectation was low after Black Panther 2.

Side Note: Michelle Pfeiffer is HOT for 64 years young

Time to dust off and re-watch the original. Haven't seen a feel good movie in quite sometime.

From the first film. When I saw the Wakandans riding animals and using spears in battle I was done on that crap.

I felt like the directors and writers just decided to throw in anything "African", add a little tech and call it a day. There was no real reimagining what a modern African society would look and be like, it all came off as corny to me.

Guess what, armies and soliders from African countries don't wear leopard-print fatigues, nor do they carry spears or wooden bolo clubs to fight with.

Drums to open a shield to enter the city of a futuristic society? Come on, like I said if a white guy directed this film, people would've been pissed, it come off so minstrel to me.

whitev70r 02-23-2023 08:14 AM

Who's excited about Cocaine Bear? Starts tomorrow! Should I go to this or Fast and Furious X?

I see so it was about the first movie not the second… did you watch the second? I’m curious what your thoughts would be about it. They totally dropped most of these angles but I don’t think it’s much better for other reasons I mentioned.

M3gan 7.5/10

Surprisingly fun horror/thriller movie.

Well, except the whole thing about the most advanced civilization on earth not being able to handle water. I am still mind blown that no execs thought that might have been a bit on-the-nose, however I haven't seen much of that talked about online so maybe it's just me.

Nope, didn't watch the second one, just clips (the drums to open the shields for example) and such from reviews.

The general consensus was that it wasn't a good film, and I've developed Marvel atrophy at this point..

We watched that an evening in here in Belize, it was solid, 7.5/10 as well.

We also watched Babylon, holy fuck 5/10.

A beautifully filmed boring turd of a movie.

Never heard of it, but I enjoyed Searching, so I guess I'll probably check this one out too.

I just read that Missing is a standalone sequel, so I guess it's just another movie with the same style, but unrelated storyline.

wow i thought it was amazing.
great cast, acting all around. can't say it was slow, just that the acting and pacing was just perfect for what it was worth.
