Top Gun - 7.5/10.

the cheesy "perfect timing" ruined the immersion for me certain scenes but the flash back scenes really help if you didn't watch the very first film. i also kinda laughed to myself thinking X-Wing vs Death Star on that final scene Mission.... nostalgia fans will enjoy it, i thought it was okay coming in for the new experience .

you remember the scene in Dunkirk where shit was going down & you had no clue who was coming out alive completely first time watching it.. probably one of my favorite aerial dog fight films with the wide shot, soundtrack.

The unbearable weight of massive talent
Everything everywhere all at once

Both 8.5/10, very fun and entertaining movies above average.

punkwax 06-19-2022 04:24 PM

Welcome to Sudden Death. 3/10 - super cheesy ultra predictable action flick. Perfect for Father’s Day.

GLOW 06-20-2022 07:23 AM

everything everywhere all at once agree 8.5/10, interesting movie

A 6 for that monstrosity of a film?! God damn, you're too generous :lol

GLOW 06-21-2022 09:38 AM

i felt bad giving it a below 5, plus trinity was still looking good :)

Everything Everywhere All At Once

This is a 9/10 movie for me. I had a blast

I think we've debated here about "turn off your brain" movies on and off for many years, and how much they usually suck (IMO). Even the enjoyable ones. But for me this is the ultimate "turn off your brain" movie. Just enjoy the ride.

Also I grew up loving HK cinema, but I haven't really been into since the early 2000's when it was finishing up falling apart from its 90's peak. But this had a lot of that great HK cinema humor I have missed for the past 2 decades.

Also Michelle Yeoh is so great.

Great movie, highly recommended. Don't read about it, just watch it.

"black phone" - 7/10

predictable near the end. think "home alone" survival, then cliche loud jump scares from the 80s of films like "friday the 13th"

its okay but not super good like "what the fuck is that thing" type of horror.

i miss when horror films fucked you up decently on the most crazy story telling at 2 am. that makes its a great film

"the house that jack built" or "Annabel"

I was HOWLING at some of the gags at first, just sitting by myself watching it on my computer. But about halfway through I was tired of it already... Brought back some memories of how stupid my humor can be, but still really enjoyable LUL

RRR

Thew hype is real people. I'm not a bollywwod fan and have not watched a bollywood film in years but this is a tollywood/south Indian film. The story is amazing the action is amazing and the 2800 plus VFX shots are amazing. Its a short 3 hours long. I have watched 90 minute movies that have seemed longer. USA today has ranked it as the number 1 movie so far this year beating top gun.

I am way underselling this movie. This movie is fucking nuts with so much action. You are going to do this :awwyeah: like 10 times. Better than any marvel movie and I think I have seen them all. This deserves an Oscar award for something.

I hope the 2799 other shots are better than that one

VFX artists reacting to RRR

SkinnyPupp 07-11-2022 01:41 AM

I'll check it out due to the hype, but usually "lots of VFX" is a reason not to watch a movie for me.

It was one but it fits with the story line. If you like Marvel movies this has like 5 to 10 marvel movies worth of action into one. This movie right now is slumdog before slumdog became famous. I watched slumdog in 2008 before it became a world wide hit.

The Indian Action Blockbuster That Should Make Hollywood Jealous

RRR is the heroic epic we’ve been waiting for—one that’s not afraid of its own extravagance.

Thor love n thunder

It shifts from horribly bad to kind of cool... A lot

Christian Bale is so out of place cuz he's such a good actor in such a dumb movie

Thor Ragnarok was a 10, Thor dark world was like a 2, Thor was an 8

Thor Love n Thunder is a 5, they dropped the ball on the much of the hokiness, whereas Ragnarok shone

I agree with this assessment.
Just watched it last night and kind of conflicted about how I felt about it.

I usually appreciate Taika's brand of humour, but felt that it didn't quite mesh very well in this movie. I can't put my finger on it, but I think the villain in this was miscast. Not the actor, the villain as a whole. I think the movie needed a less serious one, one that could return the banter and continue to carry that ridiculousness of all the other jokes. The tone shifting back and forth was jarring couldn't keep the momentum going in either direction.

^ I haven't seen it yet, but you could even feel it in the trailer!

i had no expectations on THor and thank goodness I didn't. Not really worth mentioning.

Really eager to watch RRR now. Thanks for the reference / review Manic!

AzNightmare 07-16-2022 11:49 AM

I just watched Top Gun (the first one) last night to get a refresher. I may watch Maverick tonight if I am free... I was waiting for the theatre to empty out before I go.

I know a couple of people that have watched this movie almost 10 times... I don't know how people can enjoy watching the same movie in such a short span of time. Is it really that good?

:fulloffuck:

SkinnyPupp 07-16-2022 05:05 PM

Maverick has beat Titatnic as Paramount's biggest domestic movie ever

I hope it influences movies in some ways, and shows that people are happy to watch practical effects and not just people acting in front of green screens. Hopefully not being able to release movies in China helps this as well.

Mad Max was a huge hit but not in China so they kept making cartoon movies.
