really low budget movie.
6 young adult who are animal / environmental activist wanted to destroy an ikea so they don't destroy the rain forest.

The 2 brothers who was stuck in night shift had to deal with these punks - older brother didn't do much but the younger brother was a hunter so he goes apeshit / equalizer on the kids (without the kungfu).

All in all, great premise, low budget, no name cast... 80% of the movie was all dark cause it was after hours in an "ikea".

The locksmith.
Also a very low budget movie with all HK cast which was good.
Honestly, it's all filmed in Malaysia; they tried to make it a thriller / mystery and it didn't do so bad. Just not the most compelling story despite a few hidden agendas and the locksmith having a dark past.

Re: The Locksmith - Interesting cast! Surprised it is considered "low budget" given the star power behind the film.

guess everyone wants a free vacation and needs to get paid.

Megalopolis (2024) was a great example of a decent cast and director and tanked so bad.

Novocaine is next on my list and I'm eager to see how good this turns out.

You and anybody else interested in the film industry in general should watch Seth Rogen's new show on Apple TV+, The Studio.

It's very entertaining, and really shows how hard it is to get a good movie made, and how easy it is for a potentially good movie to be turned to shit.

Novacaine
Banker fell in love with staff - bank got robbed and chases after the girl who was held hostage - BTW, he has a medical condition making him unable to feel pain.

SUCH A GOOD movie - great script, fast paced, Dan Berk and Robert Olsen are directors who are nobody, but did a dang amazing job in keeping it all together.

I did not know Jack Quaid is son of Dennis Quaid. Honestly, did not care who he was. Entire cast was a nobody and it was just fine and perfect!
Female lead who was Amber Midthunder - (she played the lead in Prey (Predator) and the chemistry was there with Jack- great job!

They didn't make Jack John Wick which I appreciated. There are some moments who you just know the 'history' of the guy coming back was once a black ops etc. Eg// Nobody - (better call saul) etc. SO many of these movie but this one, the lead plays literally a no body so that was good.

Everything in the movie worked together - the characters introduced (who you think are random strangers), the protagonist who loves to read medical books, how he loves tats etc.... nothing was wasted that was introduced. *clap clap clap

Enjoy the ride, enjoy the plot which has a good (a few cool moments) all the way to the end; heck, even the fight scenes were good and the guy is not even supposed to know anything about kungfu.

Black Bag - (you'll find out what black bag means in the movie)

The cast is strong, review is 95% so this can't go wrong. It did NOT disappoint. Too bad it's not making money at all yet.

From beginning to end, you're locked into your seat. 100% thriller with so many connecting players all tied to a story. Freaking 1st minute in, the plot is smacked in your face and THEN you decipher all the clues, facts, and character building.

If you're old enough, you'll know Steven Soderbergh (director) did Sex lies and videotape, Ocean's 11,12,13, Erin Brockovich, Traffic, Contagion,Logan Lucky, even Magic Mike's Last Dance. Why i'm saying this, is because all the movies above has a very unique style and he does just that in this movie as well.

Things always come together and it's just layers of layers until you get to the meat / plot.

David Koepp - writer, did Tom Cruise's The Mummy, War of the Worlds, Panic Room, Spider-Man, Jurassic Park,Carlito's Way, Mission Impossible.

Why is this important, when you got some solid cast + great director and script writer, you get a great movie.

If that doesn't convince you, Cate Blanchett + Michael Fassbender (plays a unique yet emotional, stick up your ass yet observant guy)+ Marisa Abela + Naomie Harris (she was in skyfall / james bond / Moneypenny) & the old Pierce Brosnan.

Really enjoy the ride, stay in your seat, and just try to figure out what is going on.

Great suspense, thriller with solid plot from start to finish.

Just looking at that poster makes me want to run and go see that movie

I watched Black Bag last night... man the opening scene gets DARK like right off the bat everyone is so loathsome I think in such a way that it kind of sets you up for failure about thinking any of these people deserves to come out of this alive... but overall I thought it's a great little movie. It's only 1.5hrs long. Well acted and executed. The one scene with special effects was a bit lame.

Very decent premise and GOSH - it's with Bong Joon Ho - (directed The Host, Snowpierce, Okja and Parasite....) why does this one have to SUCK SOOOO bad.

Whole story - cloning machines comes in and clones 1 individual. Any accidents that happens, clone 2 comes out and memories gets put back in. What a great way to start a story and so much potential. Then of course, when you accidentally prints more than 1 clone you get = multiple. Truly a cool story to play with.

The first 1/3 of movie was a good sci fi movie and yes I do understand it's a black comedy, but the last half of the movie just derailed like crazy. Mark Ruffalo's bit at the end with Naomi 's rebellion portion was just totally useless; lead to necessary action. Whatever protagonist with the aliens were also went no where. If only there was a development of sort on just ONE story line.

If only the director only developed the 1st half of the movie, it would have been great.

For $118 M and coming in at 127 M, what a disgrace when you have a cast of
Robert Pattinson - he's meh despite playing multiples of himself.
Naomi Ackie - she did Blink Twice & Whitney Houston's I wanna dance with somebody
Steven Yeun - he had only a few lines and didn't help much - his character was totally useless.
Toni Collette - i'm going to call her botox queen cause she's getting old LOL
Mark Ruffalo - his character was far fetched but he did play well.

Nickel Boys

Great story, great style of filming just a poorly execution dragged too long.
I have not seen this kind of filming ever / nor that i know so it was refreshing. Just that it does get really boring when you keep seeing POV of something.
It starts with 1 person's POV, pauses, then reverts to another person's POV.
Awards or not, it was a long 2+ hours with a bit too slow.

Towards the end it fast tracks couple of decades ahead so that thru me off a bit and jumps back.

Plot - Reform school notorious for its abusive treatment of students is pretty much it. Too bad the pacing was extremely slow nor exciting enough for me to appreciate it.

For a 23 M investment and ocming back at 3.2 M. dang that's tough. Guess it's a love project.

ihostage.

Dutch movie, really nicely filmed. Growing up in the HK 90s-2000 era, we were KING when it comes to action / suspense / cop vs thief thrillers. The tension, the good cop bad thief bickering, the drama, the pacing were all made with years of experience.

This movie is based on a true story ...sooo what.... it's still boring as F.
Tons of loop holes which is fine. I can give you that. What I can't forgive is a crap ending - meh, I can look past that; what you cannot do is to have no character building, no back story and then try to make your actors cry. You do not end a movie trying to tie useless, non essential story lines lose ends. Why spend 20 mins on something unworthy.

Thin as a kite story with pour execution was what made this movie a flop at the end. All the build up for nothing.

Please learn from any HK or hollywood on how to make a cop / terriorist thriller.

A working man.
Same formula for Jason Statham - surprisingly the script was by Stallone- normal guy helps revenge and wins all.

Entire movie was 2 hr long which was a tad too long; wish it stayed within the 1.5 hr range. Everyone else in the movie was, as alway, totally useless and only had 1 liners. Love how people expect to use rifles as assault rifles, then I'm nit picking it too much.

Small production at 40 M, just glad it made money at the box office.

I find it funny the guy is 57 now and all the movies are exactly the same (which is fine) and he just doesn't age at all.

G20 - movie about US president in cape town submit with G20 countries and getting into trouble. It was hilarious on so many levels cause a few parts I couldn't take seriously at all. Wife and I were just scratching our heads.

With it could be a bit more like white house down with a bit more action and tension. Even bypassing some of that, there were just a bit more plot holes that we wanted.
eg// why is the British PM such weaksauce, you sure G20 won't be full blown security + security all the way along? Is it only US president with only 1 security guy to protect the president?

President of US was weak at times yet be able to take down trained mercenary as if she was rambo - in ar15 rifle skills and in fights (even if it was only few scenes).

How come there were such lack of bad guys. Did like the premise of G20 and also being relevant with deepfake so that was nice to see.

Did not like Viola Davis as a lead maybe that was just me.

I watched Section31 a couple weeks ago... or tried to... I don't know how you could fuck something like that up SO BAD. You literally have decades of Star Trek look and feel to draw upon, a fantastic storyline for Philippa Georgiou and an Academy Award winner in Michele Yeoh....... but it was AWFUL. We looked at each other and both said "I can't do this it's just not getting any better" and decided to turn it off.

6793026 04-25-2025 05:33 PM

^ i just saw the trailer and it does look really pretty. The costume, the sets, the filming, colors looked amazing... no idea why it tanked... i'm not going to watch it...

Thanks for this. I thoguht it was really nicely done. Well scripted, Seth seemed a bit young to be playing studio head but boy or boy did it give me back all the Ari Gold Entourage feel.

Short but sweet 8 episode, decent cast and just good pacing throughout. It's not for everyone, and you have to understand each episode are a story on its own with some connection.

Light, short, and being a movie person that I am; i found it easy to pick up whenever I wanted to watch. Having an apprecation from Entourage definitely helped.

Who else is excited for the new Tron movie?

Probably the only movie in the last x years that im itching to see.

Also to back onto 6793026
Ihostage. That movie was ass. Filming was 10/10, but the content was a 3/10.

It was like watching one of those "airplane crash/mayday" documentaries, where they just drag out nothing happening for 2hrs.
