Bafta awards, some of the movies mentioned above: Best movie - Conclave Best movie (foreign, non English) - Emilia Perez Best leading actress - Mikey Madison from Anora Brutalist also got a lot of recognition. Thoughts on Emilia Perez, anyone? I read about controversy of the leading actress Karla Sophia Gascon and her/his previous tweets. Ironic that a trans person was so derogatroy against blacks, Islam, and diversity. Side note - SNL 50 reunion was a bit of feel good show. That show is a cultural icon producing so many stars. It feels like at this moment or generation, it is a bit of a flop but you never know, 10-15 yrs later, some of the present cast might be stars. |

I really don't care much about Karla - honestly, the script was decent and I wouldn't have cared who played the role - for a split second i thought it was Channing Tatum in makeup (mostly because he did a lip sync dance off as Beyonce before LOL). |
https://i.ytimg.com/vi/rUSdnuOLebE/maxresdefault.jpg The Jorge what an amazing concept. All I know is that it's romance and then it hit me. It was also a horror. WTF. The story started well, fast paced, and fully understood what's going on. I liked Anya in Queen's gambit, not so much flop in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga so I didn't really expect much. Miles Teller aka whiplash, divergent, fantastic 4, Top Gun: Maverick... i mean he's decent, I guess just never had the charisma. Please keep in mind this is not action and not romance.. it's a weird split which never find footing. Official summary "two elite snipers who are ordered to guard a deep gorge without knowing what lies inside" Let's just leave it at that. |

Only released in one country :fuckthatshit: Hollywood should give up trying to compete with this, and just go back to making good movies instead of on screen theme park rides |
It's no use, even china's crappiest movie will gross more than ever. It's just the population. HK tries but it just won't get there. You just have to be super lucky to be able to have the HK movie play in China. lastly, the investments went from 36 movies invested in 2018 down to 4 movies in 2024. It's a tough business to be in. Will check out this ne zha when it plays. |
and this Ne Zha is part 2 right isn't there a first one that came out a few years ago? |
it's being played here in Vancouver, limited time. From the trailer, it looks part Mulan with Asian values, part Harry Potter with magic/spells, part Marvel with superpowers, and part Shang-chi with dragons and fantasy. |
Definitely a lot of hype with this movie lol |
https://resizing.flixster.com/caV8rK...JmNWNmYi5qcGc= Unstoppable what a great movie. Super happy go lucky esp when it's based on a true story. Not a huge cast but it was done well and acting was legit. Yes it was played by Jen Lopez + produced by Matt Damen and Ben Affleck, guess that's what happens when you were married to her. Story about one legged wrestler that's really all you need to know. Bobby Cannavale plays dead beat step dad, Michael Peña + Don Cheadle were coaches and Jennifer Lopez as the step mom. Super heart warming. |

https://i.ytimg.com/vi/O_A8HdCDaWM/maxresdefault.jpg Captain America - brave new world. So we took over the theatre and hosted a corp event. It was either Joker, Red One, Wicked... but finally happy to land on this one. I gotta say, they tried super hard to solidify a good script and they did ok. With a budget of 180M and with 200M, it's NOT bad. Yes, we all saw the trailer and we did find out MOST of the movie in it. Won't ruin it for you all but I have to say it wasn't that bad. Few memorable mentions, Giancarlo Esposito - who did breaking bad - the action scene with the guns was pretty good sound effects was a decent cast. The WORSE person to be casted was Shira Haas(Unorthodox (2020) was her break) but I did not like her at all; did not know why they casted at 5 ft 2 supporting lead. Weird. Movie could've been shorter and added a bit more pull with Liv Tyler; she pretty much just had 2 min scene ... weird. All in all... will it ever be better than end game... never. Was it worth it. it was a 6/10 I had low expectations but can't really pin point how or what woudl have made the movie bettter. *only 1 easter egg at very end of movie. |
^A 5'2 girl boss beating up big dudes? Marvel still Marvelin' :lol |
https://resizing.flixster.com/wU9CwF...35_v_h9_ae.jpg Better Man wtf happened man. Robbie William's life - ok fine.. cause I'm not really his age nor appreciated the genre / music he had but what a boring 2 hr movie. I mean with all these people's movies, they tend to be good right? Whitney, MJ (coming out later this yr), Bob Marley, Elton, Bohemian, etc... they are usually really decent. This one, well with a 110 M budget, and it grossed 18 M? Total disaster. I did really like how it started off and the ending was nicely done. The entire 1 full hour was Robbie's internal struggle was really BLAH. Typical daddy issues, stage fright, drugs, alcohol... it was really empty. What a waste, then again, how long can you do in a 2 hr movie with just drugs and chicks... well they added a lot of filler. Lastly, instead of casting someone, the CGI Robbie as a primate. WHAT? I did appreciate the brit humor, swearing, and the whole 9 yards. It was just really weird at the very end, I thought I was watching planets of the apes at the last scene. Really weird. I did like the final touch of the dad. Just the entire 1.5 hours were all nothing but fluff. |
https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/..._DpWeblab_.jpg It Ends with Us It was date night and wife picked. Even she couldn't swallow how weird the beginning of the movie was. Fun facts 1) The director actually played the lead in the movie. - Justin Baldoni 2) Blake Lively looked old yet looked young... she's getting the blonde old age where it's hard to find placement in the industry I guess. 3) movie was 25 million and grossed 350Million WTFF 4) there were some lawsuit going on which claiming harrassment. Regarding point 4, it's a romance movie, but the underlying tone was about domestic violence and emotional abuse. During the entire movie, the main character encounters it abruptly and a few flashbacks regarding such trauma. This was the only part which I had beef with. If this is a romance movie, stay on the genre. If it's about abuse, then go deep or at least focus on it. Don't just briefly skim thru it. Never really seen Blake act so it was refreshing to see. Couldn't connect with her in the movie, but there were some good scenes in it. Casting was ok and there were some chemistry - Brandon Sklenar who was the supporting actor looked like Haley Joel Osment at a few scenes. |
https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/...qcGc@._V1_.jpg The Order what a great fooking film. Based in 80s, true story, great casting with Jude Law, Nicholas Hoult (About a Boy, Xmen Beast) & Tye Sheridan (real Player one). Movie is about bank heist and XXX / cult / brotherhood movie. Decent paced, characters were in and out, action was on point... you were rotting with both sides. Great motive, decent action; what was also surprising was the soundtrack that was good too. With all this, what a shit way to be as the box office only made 2.3 M, then was on Prime and back on theatres. I just hope it made money. Movie was filmed in ALberta back in 2023 to host the backdrop of Idaho / Seattle etc. |
Planes, Trains and Automobiles [1987] - 7/10 It felt like a pretty typical comedy from that era. It was amusing but nothing was laugh out loud funny. Quote:
The teaser at the end for the second movie looked pretty terrible though. Right off the bat it can't be as good once you've seen the big twist from the first one. |

https://images.fandango.com/ImageRen...eet6_RGB_1.jpg Love hurts You know what also hurts, your brain. WTF - did jacky chan bail on the his hollywood films in his 60s and need a replacement? Ke Huy Quan is the kid who played indiana jones / Everywhere everything.. blach blah but he just doesn't have any charisma. Can't blame him for all, cause the entire cast was crap. Ariana DeBose (west side story?, karven, didn't know she won supporting acadamy award for supporting) did not have ANY chemistry with Ke Huy Quan. Marshawn Lynch (Seahawks football player) plays assassin who needed nothing but muscle so i cna't blame him. Then we got Lio Tipton (LOVED her in Crazy Stupid Love (kid who sexting pics to Steve Carrell; also didn't know she's came out as non-binary in 2021. LGBTQ2+ or whatever). Characters were all over the place, Lio falling for Marshawn did not work. Ariana and Ke Huy Quan also didn't work. Nothing in the movie worked despite it being an action movie. It was all about vengeance and some money stealing by big boss Daniel Wu. I do have the say the sets were ok, and one fight scene tool that was a blade from a show was cool. Fighting all over the place, characters were crap, no chemistry, and overall I couldn't place the movie properly into anything worthy. I blame the director and whoever casted the characters. I woudl watch Nobody 1000X over this. |
^ saw the trailer and thought that was a waste of 90 secs of my life. But then, I didn't get Everywhere Everything whatever movie either and didn't like it .. yah, I know it tried to incorporate other classical genre of films all stitched into one but I thought it was terrible and don't know how it won any awards. |
The Equalizer [2014] - 7/10 Denzel Washington plays a quirky older guy with a slightly mysterious past that he calls upon to avenge a wrong done to a younger woman he met recently. Okay that describes quite a few of his movies but overall this was still a decent watch. |

Tbh the ending might be considered a bit woke for some. 8.5/10 |
https://sysfilessacbe149174fee.blob....700289dfd6.jpg A complete unknown Story about Bobby Dylan. It's a long 2:21 min movie, so it's really really love. His music is great but its really just about folk music so there is a limit on how much folk you can take in 160 mins. Everyone did such a great job, from Edward Norton, Elle Fanning & Monica Barbaro, so much chemistry between all so I really did enjoy the casting (they aren't too well known to have a great role). What this movie did was NOT focus on drugs, alcohol or any strippers which I did appreciate; cause after all, Bob Dylan is all about folk song. There is really nothing too much to write home about because it's not rock and roll. I did see how Bob came about, and how as an artist, you still have to do what you gotta do to get inspired. Movie towards the end was dealing with society not liking electric guitar music when he's famous for folk music. I think 90% of the movie was due to James Mangold directed and did the screen play who also did Logan, Ford versus Ferrari, Indiana Jones, so it did help tremendously. As to Timothée Chalamet, in his entire movie, based on research, he fully treated himself as bob dylan which was cool to see his heart at work. I've never really cared much for Bob Dylan so I don't know if he acted as if he was stoned all the time, and just emotionless. Would recommend this movie, just know it's a 2:21 hr movie with a LOT of folk music, 2 love story and that's about it. Ending was bit of a douchbag move, wife and I do understand why it ended the way it did. Just not the right place at the right time. |
Welp ... any thoughts on the Oscar winner for best movie? For those who have seen it and reviewed it, you might be disappointed. But in previous years, I've also been like 'WTF?' how did that win best picture? Spoiler! |
Anora was great at the start and then dragged in the middle for so so long which was painful. Just didn't feel right a stripper movie theme won best film which is a bit weird as well. I have yet watch I'm Still Here. |
