Yes - otherwise you're going to be confused AF. (assuming you meant Dead Reckoning aka MI7) We re-watched MI 1 to 7 in preparation, so many Easter eggs in 8. |
Unless you never watched MI:7 at all, I don't think you need to re-watch it, just read the plot summary to refresh your memory. |
Most of the MI movies are really good though, and worth watching (except 2). Its peak of popularity was a long time ago, but it's an all time great movie franchise You can skip 2 though. Although it might still be enjoyable as "so bad it's good" it stands out from the rest for how bad it is. |
Don't know why MI:2 is universally ranked the worst - I remember liking it a lot back when it came out! And Thandiwe Newton was so hot! :okay: |
If you're a Jon Woo superfan you're going to love it, but even back then I thought it was a jumbled mess. Especially the ending! |
That's the one directed by John Woo right? All I can remember from that movie is the ridiculously long final fight with the final boss at the end on the beach. It was like ludicrously long-winded. |
Did remember there were some creative differences between the two. Yes John Woo has his pigeons, slow mo cameras all along. I thought it was a bit refreshing coming from MI1 cause it was spy within a spy within a spy so seeing a better linear story in MI2 wasn't bad. Guess we all just have diff taste. https://img.vwassets.com/thewestthea...f978ff004a.jpg Finally watched it with wife before she gives birth this week. Really enjoyed it because I was prepared by doing two things. It was a 3 hour movie and the 1/2 bit is a bit 'boring' and we did rewatch the last one to ramp ourselves up. There were a few easter eggs (the dates were actually 1st MI series started) and a few loop holes - if Cruise was so hard out of reach, how did people get a hold of him; why was Luther sick, don't even get me started on the action loop holes cause it's like wtf. Really did tie it all in together, some I won't ruin with spoilers but with a series being 30 years in the making, it was a solid close. Was it the best series finale, meh, did it do the job, sure did. Got to say they were running out stunts esp, car, helicopter, motorcycles... well they really did a good job with the sub. It was a long 1 man show with no dialogue and purely just Cruise battling environmental harshness and it did NOT disappoint. I truly appreciate the scene there - of course escaping all the death defying decompression was just totally BS. Being a scuba diving instructor i face palmed so many times LOL. It did "lack" some crazy action scenes which I did miss and no more fast BMW car chases... but that's ok. I think Tom needs to take a rest from all the 5 running scenes in this movie LOL. Did enjoy how it all tied in together and the sub scene was great - sadly it's not something you can rewatch over and over. With a 400 M budget, dang... guess it's a great way to end a genre. PS - if you leave a review at letterbox, the cpu will have ethan hunt terminate your review in 5 secs. pretty funny. https://i.ibb.co/yFYpv4dF/1.jpg |
https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/...qcGc@._V1_.jpg The Amateur - well i have to say, it did well for a 1981 novel adaption. Wasn't a fan of Rami Malek however, casting him was actually decently done. I guess the movie was green lit cause he produced it as well. The story started off strong and had some great premise so you'll really enjoy the setup the 1/2 hour. Hey, after all, it is an action film so the down hill slippery slope came in. You gotta have some car chases and some tension so that part was so so weak. Ending was done well as it was unexpected, just wished it was cinematically satisfying. I guess ifyou were reading a 1981 book it would have been done well. All in all, the adaption of a novel almost 45+ years is worthy of a mention. |
https://resizing.flixster.com/kDGmb-...I2Mjg3OS5qcGc= Deep Cover 1 commerical actor who never made it and always wnats to act better, 1 actress teacher who never got noticed and a brown dude who is so socially awkward that just walked into an improv class to get a better handle of his social skills. Then somehow, a cop asks them to go undercover to do drug bust. it has a bit of weird humor and man I haven't seen Orlando Bloom for so long. Each of the 3 characters were so weird and cringy that was funny yet wrong. It just worked. Nick Mohammed was just a weird brown guy whom i have not see anything and it was him that played well. It was just like a train wreck yet it just worked. I praised for the fast pacing and also a bunch of shit mixed together that just flowed. Fun, easy, roll with it feel and you'll have a good time. |
The brown guy is Nate the Great on Ted Lasso!!! |
Just watched it as well, pretty entertaining The Nate the great guy is hella going to be typecast into this loser type role though he’s carried from Ted Lasso |
Warfare - 8/10 -- A24 film, fantastic very much recommend if you're into the whole Jarhead modern war experience. You will not be able to relax this entire film. Friendship 7/10 -- Another A24 movie, very much a Tim Robinson movie. Funny, but awkward and uncomfortable as hell. It's a movie about a socially awkward guy who befriends his neighbor played by Paul Rudd, and their eventual fallout. |
dang, MI2 was the only one i've ever seen :lol guess it can only go uphill from there.... |

https://cityonfire.com/wp-content/up...ilded-Game.jpg A Gilded Game 獵金遊戲 A very standard typical stock market trading company. It's very weird as it's a HK director (super famous for a lot of copy / explosion / thief movie) with Andy Lau (meh) with a few supporting characters, but the movie flopped for a few reasons. The chinese / mainland message is still too boring. ENding was extremely BAD, it did NOT tie things together and it reverted back to Hollywood formula. HK films / writers are awesome for writing twist / tense / stories eg// internal affairs, but this one... felt weak. I loved how it's the protege + money stock marketing background, just didn't pan out well. One issue is due to TVB recent movie 企業強人 Big Biz Duel- talked about the rise of delivery company in china (sort of based on a true story). https://img.tvb.com/mytvs/poster/1419/h_141803_v1_o.jpg It had 30 episodes to deal with conglomerates on taking over, competitive edge, battles between CEO and the board, whereas this movie only had 2 hrs to do so. I did like how the protege had to beg for a contract and had to revert to demeaning thigns to make the CEO happy - i told my wife.. this is the shi* a sales guys have to deal with.... https://toisto.net/content/images/20...nt-poster.webp Looking at the poster, i'm already disappointed esp when the accountant 1 was about ... an accountant. Finding loop holes on what happened was what made the movie good (now the poster is about action). Yes, itt was really a long time ago, 11 yrs, but i did remember it had a special touch on his role. This time, it did NOT have that suspense. Do have to say Jon Bernthal was good to be recasted so the story still stayed in line. There was only 1 part that I enjoyed was the original accountant revealing on how / what was cooking in the books, the rest were just meh. A 2 hour movie which had 3 side stories which was really not needed. Bromance.. sure, understand. Why do we need line dancing, why do we need to do an action packed rambo rescue is beyond me. It's the accountant, not action finale. Hilarious how kids are 'willingly' to walk into their graves before they are being buried is very believable lol. |
Yah Accountant 2 was not good, very uneven pacing and I had a hard time believing all these criminal organizations would go SO HARD as to execute people in federal buildings with a sniper just to protect a prostitution ring? Was it really bringing in that much money? Fuck... Deep Cover was a lot of fun, some pretty stupid parts but overall I enjoyed it... Orlando Bloom made the movie work. |
Saw this on the plane. It's kind of a comedy kung fu movie with the guy from “Everything Everywhere All at Once". I like that the boss villain kept drinking bubble tea, and fucked people up with the straw :lol https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/...qcGc@._V1_.jpg |
^Looks like shite |
I really do not like that Ke Huy Guan, didn't like him in Indiana Jones, didn't like him in Everything Everywhere ... didn't even like him in the trailers alone for that movie. :lol Will never go to a movie of his ... don't really know why ... maybe I'm racist cuz I hate his accent and squeaky voice. |
It's because he's a non-threatening asexual Asian guy doing kung fu. Hollywood eats that shit up. |
The "ironically non threatening kung fu guy" genre I think started with Taken, or at least the current boom, which had, well a million other Liam Neeson versions but also Saul Goodman had one, and now Data from The Goonies LUL |
There's a second Mr. Nobody coming out this year too... trailer looks pretty great lol I also saw a trailer for Toxic Avenger and it looks wild: |

FALK me, i'm old, he's like the dumb and dumber version of Johnny English ... we'll see how this plays out. I did remember seeing The Naked Gun 2˝ back in the days. Leslie Nielsen passed away and i think it would a decent cast with Liam, i just don't know if the jokes will translate in 2025. |

Good to see Elijah getting another movie and oh gosh.. kevin bacon.... https://ntvb.tmsimg.com/assets/p2865...pg?w=960&h=540 one of them days What a plesant suprise. yhes it's a black comedy, not dark at all. Very humorous and funny movie. Some of the dialogue I had a tough time with as there were a few slangs and all but i got thru it. No idea who keke palmer is, no idea who Solána Imani Rowe, known professionally as SZA, is but I plowed thru it. Script was nicely done as it really wrapped it up all together; from going thru situations, love interest, bad guy, sisterhood, even post credit scene. It totally saved the movie. You feel for these ghetto girls trying to make rent, dealing with situations that's bad and ughhh like what the hell... The dynamic between the duo was meh but the script and the bond towards the end made it work. Subtle jokes and situations all fits into the story, one heck of a blood donation scene, easy watch, tough to get started but ended well. |
