I have 1 pair of raw Grim Tim and 2 pairs of non-raw, Slim Jim and Thin Finn. Bought them all on sale.
I paid roughly 150 for the raws, and 100 for the nons.
As much as I love denim, I can't get myself to pay over $150 for a pair of jeans.

^ You know what, I'm starting to feel the same way. I used to love super premium raw denim in the $300 range but now I feel like my next pair will be some simple Levi's.

beeswax leather is better for fall as it's more water resistant
oakwood suede is a great color, very versatile.
both are easy to style and wear with, can dress up or down.

Ive been wanting to try out naked and famous,, but levis STF is just too awesome. I can can like 4 pairs of levis for 1 pair of naked and famous lol
unit: i hate that levis red tab, stitching and the patch as well. It looks bad so i take it all off.
These Levis STF 501 cost me $36 on sale. For levis shrink to fit, the waist doesnt really shrink, but length shrinks about 2 inches. I actually sized 1 down on the waist, usually wear 31 waist straight leg and 32 in skinny leg. Im wearing 30x36 which shrunk to 30x34. Heres a fit picture of my levis stf 501 with all the tags taken off. What do you guys think of fit? |

But I actually respect what the brands stand for - which in turn, I don't mind sporting their logos.
Then there's flashy logos that are just flashy for the sake of being flashy. I'd take a pair of blank N&F over those any day.

no hipster but i think nudie is getting up there with being one of those recognizable brands that are a little too mainstream.
not saying its a bad brand but once a brand gets too popular, people who buy clothes just for names sake start buying it to show off the logo and it waters the brand down. same thing happens with all popular recognizable brands that are trends. just my opinion!
hundredone: i think the fit is ok. its about the right looseness for your body proportion.

well as long as the fit is good, branding for me, at least, is not that big of an isssue. Heck, if true religion had better fits and quality, i would wear them.
Currently breaking in a pair of Japan Blue's (same as momotoro). been rotating 3 pairs of n&f wierd's for around 3 years now and decided it was time to 'upgrade'. So far, fit is great and the material feels like it will last me a lot longer than n&f.

Note on CDBs: crepe soles absorb water so as waterproof the outside leather may be, you'll still get wet through the sole. Clark's Bushacre may be a better choice for Vancouverite since it has a rubber sole instead of crepe. And I guess I'm just not a fan of how crepe looks in general.

the overall difference in quality narrows and the separation between price points widens the further one climbs the retail ladder.
A $150 pair of jeans may have a 100% improvement in quality over a $60 pair,
but a $200 pair of jeans may only have a 25% improvement in quality over a $150 pair,
and a $300 pair of jeans may only have a 10% improvement in quality over a $200 pair.
I'm quite happy with the quality of N&F; I can appreciate the quality of the more expensive brands if I sit down and pay attention, but in day to day wear, I honestly don't notice the difference. I would rather purchase the mid-tier brand that is good but not amazing quality, and dedicate the savings towards other pieces, travel, eating out, etc.

As much as I love my Japan Blues, I'm probably not going to buy another pair of this expensive raw denim. I can't justify it. I don't know how I justified spending $225 on these. I love them to death but they're just jeans. Jeans are just jeans. Hell, my twill rigid Levis are fading too. And it's weird to think that wearing jeans becomes a chore when you wear them everyday, but for some reason, it just does. As easy as it is to just slap on the same jeans everyday without thought, it becomes a chore, yet I find myself doing it repeatedly.
I'll probably wait for another pair of N&F to go on sale next time. My first pair of raw denim were N&Fs, and I got them for $40 right after Christmas. Best investment I've ever made.
Also, there's more woolite free samples. The only hump now is that you have to like a page on facebook. Woolite® Laundry Detergent Official Site: Liquid Detergent & Fabric Care I don't use woolite, but it may interest those that do.

I try to look for denim that pay attention to the small details things like reinforced pocket lining, hidden rivets, selvedge fly, etc... Unfortunately mainly pricer ones do. Hopefully someone can incorporate the small details in a reasonable price in the future.

Well, in addition to quality, there is also things that are unique regarding each brand of jeans. For example, APC fades easily and distinctively
Personally, I love DH as it has the nicest slim fitting cut for me (as well as a unique 38' inseam). Quality wise, it definitely isn't worth it, but the fit and fades are amazing!

^^ Same here. Its the details that count. Everything you mentioned plus the quality of the hardware- all the buttons, plated rivets, etc. Maybe some darting in key locations, hand dyed denim, chain stitched hems, completely hand made denim. I find that cheaper denim tends to lose their shape easily too.
Unfortunately, I'm doing school full time right now with no job so my disposable income is quite small and I can't justify getting a new pair if my current pair is still ok although its needing more and more repairs.
Which is kind of a good thing because I'll just keep wearing my current pair and make it look even better lol. I miss the stiffness and color of brand new raw denim though.
