nice pictures. i personally wouldn't recommend ordering rolls at sushi hachi. they are usually a bit sloppy...that and i'm a nigiri purist so i'm a bit bias :haha:

LiquidTurbo 04-07-2010 08:00 PM

The House roll was VERY good, along with their chopped scallop. Shame it's present in such a messy fashion. It doesn't really matter though, since it all tastes fantastic. You're right thought, the sashimi/nigiri is really top notch, really is the star of the restaurant.

Characteristic of a high quality roll is the rice barely held together. Lesser quality sushi places will have the rice tightly packed.

Whats the price range for Sushi Hachi?

Like normal priced Japanese food? Or a bit higher.

The pictures you took make the place stand out from the other sushi joints.

how were the prices? care to label each one of them with a price tag? roughly?

where is this place located?

PS seems to be there are two locations, one in richmond while the other one is located at W41st

6793026 04-07-2010 10:07 PM

there's only 1 and one and only. it's a mom and pop shop. serious. two man team that runs the place, you have to get reservations cause it's so hard to get a spot.
i've been there a few times, once was a few yrs ago and it was just as top notch as now. The rolls aren't the best, but the sashimi were great.

I would say, there's only 3 places in richmond with decent japanese food and this is one of htem.

LiquidTurbo 04-07-2010 11:52 PM

Sushi King on Granville & 63rdish.

Spider Roll:

Avocado Roll and Two piece Salmon Nigiri:
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_RlBlRdp4hCE/S7...0/DSC_6068.JPG

7/10. Hugely large rolls. If you're into quantity, this place is a 9.5/10. For quality, I would rate.. a 6/10. The avocado roll is a steal.. It's 2.50 or 2.75.

Samurai Sushi
8.5/10

holly shit, the amount of sushi you get for the price is kiilerrr. You get about 6 pieces of anything about the size of your palm and as thick as your hand for about 6 bucks or so, not bad.

Yup, it said spider roll. It's basically a California Roll with Unagi on top.

Interesting. I'll check out those places for sure. I was pretty impressed with Ichiro @ Steveston too.

6793026 04-09-2010 09:48 AM

Sorry liquid turbo, the pic you posted on Sushi Garden @ Kingsway looks like shit. the avocado is mush, it falls apart and it's not even rolled correctly, just look at the Alaska roll. presentation already is -2

the two places in Richmond with good sushi (sashimi will be used to rate how good the places are. Richmond sushi = 1 (bad) seto = 8)
Seto is one of them. Seto didn't do so well last time I was there, the quality control was lacking a bit.

Kiyo Sushi Japanese Restaurant‎ would be teh second one in richmond with a good sashimi and decent japanese food.
11590 Cambie Road, Richmond, BC‎ - (604) 214-1388‎

their lunch hours are always packed with business people going there for lunch
