bcrdukes & co.

Friday Night - Part 1 @ Notturno Gastown

- Cured white anchovies, eggs, salsa verde, garlic aioli
- Beef Carpaccio, salsa verde, garlic purée, pecorino cheese, maldon salt, cracked pepper
- Lamb Peposo stew: lamb shoulder, onions, garlic, veal stock, red wine and lots of cracked pepper served with grilled bread and mascarpone cheese
- Featured pasta - I don't recall exactly but it was a durum wheat spaghetti with a fresh-made Italian tomato sauce along with chorizo, garlic, and spinach
- Burrata with Serego Alighieri extra virgin olive oil, maldon salt, cracked pepper, and prosciutto

All of the dishes were served with bread, except for the beef carpaccio. You will get full very quickly.

Drinks:
- Maple Cubed - an in-house original cocktail by world-famous "H"
Tennessee whiskey, maple syrup, maple bitters, dry Fino Sherry, and Benedictine, all smoked
with maple wood x 3
- Old fashioned x 2
- Manhattan x 2
- Affinity x 1
- Negroni x 1

Food, drinks, service - 10/10. We went earlier in the evening so it was a little quiet (expected for a Friday) and then the crowds came rushing in at 8:30pm. We would have loved to stay a little longer but there were other hungry patrons so we kindly left. The drinks here - simply amazing. Come here for the classics. They will leave an amazing impression. The food - top notch ingredients and wonderful Italian flavours. So simple, yet, fantastic. This is why I love Italian cicchetti.

Don't come here if you are looking for huge portions or the best bang for buck.. The food is meant to be shared. This means you, Verdasco. Go away.

Friday night - Part 2 @ Bambudda Gastown

Our entourage headed over to our Gastown favourite, Bambudda, to finish the evening off.

Food (late night menu)
- Pig trotters (this was more like a tonkatsu. Delicious. Great to nibble on over some drinks and to share.
- Steamed buns with pork belly. So good, we got two orders.

Drinks:
- Whiskey Mac x 2. A cocktail consisting of whiskey with ginger and lemon. Good enough to cure a cold. A fantastic slow sipper. Not for the weak. You've been warned.
- Koi pond x 1
- Mother In Law - As the name states, it'll kick your ass. One hell of a stiff drink.

Food, service, drinks - as always, a 10/10. This is why we keep going back.

Dale MacKay's restaurant, Ayden Kitchen and Bar in Saskatoon, SK.

Starter: Scallops - Arrabiata sauce, Basil, Fennel, Lobster Glaze
Main: 3 Ways - Grilled Loin, Cripsy Rillon, & Bacon, Spaetzle, Black Trumpet Mushrooms, Cabbage, & Creme Fraiche
Dessert: "Crumble" - Preserved Local Berries, Buckwheat Crisp, Coriander Seed, Bramblethorn Ice Cream

Drinks: Refashioned & Harvest Moon

Food, drinks, service - 9.5/10

The scallops were delicious; loved the arrabiata sauce. The pork main was amazing. Despite the Chef MacKay saying there was no German Mennonite influence, the dish itself reminded me of my travels in Germany and Austria. A lot of traditional German/Austrian flavours where local ingredients really bring out the special flavours of the food. The crumble just awesome - I loved the use of local berries and the sweet and tart flavours.

Drinks were good, but I felt that they would be a little more refined. Christopher Cho was not in, unfortunately. If he were behind the bar, I would have opted for that extra 0.5. If you ever get a chance, pay Chef MacKay and Christopher Cho a visit at Ayden. A real gem in the prairies.

Thanks for the help boys I ended up eating at the sandbar on Granville island. Great place for a lunch or dinner. My girlfriend loved the food, my steak was alright. Think I'm going to stop ordering steaks at places there always so Damn small! But the service is great. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Ended up going to Dinakis in Port Coquitlam.
Food was 9/10
Service was 10/10.
Atmosphere 8.5/10

I was looking for a casual Greek place for Friday night, this place definitely delivered. The Chicken Marsala was amazing and the serving was more than enough.

Best part was the service though. Server accidentally forgot to input our orders, we waited 30+ minutes. I just thought there was a hold up in the kitchen but he manned up, admitted that there was a mistake and offered free appies. To be honest I wouldn't have minded and I don't feel entitled enough to demand something for the mistake but it was nice of him to offer up the appies voluntarily and own up to the mistake.

Will definitely be coming back here anytime i feel like eating Greek food.

Rasoi
Went for their lunch special.
Butter Chicken, curry lamb and rice.
I asked for extra spicy and it was damn spicy
8.5/10

Famoso
Pizza day at work. The south surrey location is definitely better then the commercial dr one.
8/10

Mamie Taylor
Ordered 3 things. Pork Grenade, Smoked Horse Tartar, Chicken and waffle.
Nothing memorable. Horse tartar tasted kinda like liquid smoke. Chicken was crispy and moist. No rush to go back anytime soon.
7/10

Black rice
It's a new restaurant in yaletown area just across the cbc building. I went there for lunch. They seem to be owned by Koreans, but it's a Japanese restaurant.

I Ordered their lunch boxes. It came with an assortment of things and it was slightly too much for me to have. It was quite good actually, I was thinking the lunch box from kingyo would be better. But I think it's comparable.

I give it 8.5/10.

A lot of the items on the menu were sold out, and they also ran out of the beef karrage and they had to substitute it with chicken in the lunch box.

They had this avocado salsa for the sashimi, which I thought it was different and tasty as well.

Price: less than 20 after tax and tip

Went to Splitz Grill on Main for one of their original burgers.

8.5/10 patty was juicy and had a nice crust, but it wasn't tough. The patty could have used a little more spice/heat to cut the fattiness of the beef. Bun was warm and soft and the sauce wasn't too runny. I had everything put on it (pickles, tomato, lettuce).

The chips (fries) were very nice. Crunchy, hot and was not starchy. I did have to salt it a little since there was none. Probably one of the best fries I've ever had. Trout Lake had this old cafe that had fries that tasted exactly the same so in a way it was quite nostalgic.

Had regular fountain pop, but they charge for refills. They also have beer.

Definitely going back for more.

(sry no pics, was too busy enjoying the food)

Little Mongolian Hot pot on Broadway

Wife and I been to this place twice within the past month. The first time we got in at 11pm on the dot, the waiters looked around and told us to leave because they said they have already done their last call. We then left and returned another time at 10:10pm. One of their waitress yelled CLOSED! very loudly and we were surprised by that. Then the manager checked the kitchen then sat us down at the smallest table possible by the door. We wrote down what we wanted and gave the sheet to them, the food came and the orders were off by alot from what we wrote down. During our meal, they started sweeping the floor and moping beside us, they talked loudly like there was no customers in the restaurant. Yes we did understand what they were saying stuff like "I am very exhausted and want to go home, or, wish that I am having a beer right now!" These just made us even more uncomfortable but as clear as the business hour says operational until 12 midnight. By 11pm, the waitress came with the bill and wanted to close the cashier, she threw 2 $5 coupons down the table and goes back 5 feet away chattering on. We realize that it is a very unhealthy lifestyle to have all you can eat hot pot late night, but this experience will always stick with us. So anyone who wants to have night food should really not be at this mongolian hotpot on broadway.

The food that came were the average little fatty sheep was suposed to have. It was not any better or worse than my experience at metrotown. However wife and I agreed that we do enjoy being at the richmond store. I dont think a rating is necessary because Im sure all you guys know what the food is like. Sorry about the rant but we're only appalled by this experience!

In-N-Out Las Vegas, I know a lot of people think it's mediocre but I fucking love it lol, been fiending for it again since a stag to Arizona, ordered the 3X3 animal style with Animal style fries, 9/10 lol

We spent a shit load of money elsewhere than dining so we tried to eat relatively cheap most of the time, only other realy notable thing was the billionaire burger from Holsteins in the Cosmo, kobe patty cooked rare with Foie on top, it did not have any overly strong flavors but the foie added a great taste dimension lol, 7.5/10

Holsteins in the Cosmo was ok.

if you go up 1 more floor, you'll see the secret pizza joint.

Holsteins was interesting the burger I had had truffle oil or some sort which was pretty dope. What KILLED it for us was the bill.

The bill was 32 dollars, I gave them a 100. I got change of 37 dollars. He took my 100 dollars and PAID a 68 dollar bill of someone beside me. I NORMALLY never check my bill but this time I did and was pissed cause it's a huge mistake. The guy wasn't really that sorry about it.

I didn't leave a decent tip cause of that.

Chop Steakhouse in Richmond

0/10

I went twice this month because of Groupon deal.
This were my 5th/6th time visits.
Totally went downhill fast since new.
Service was average. Food were too salty.
For their price $35 - $45 per entree
Not worth it at all.
Poor manage company. It is sad.

Copa Cafe in Richmond. Across from Olympic Oval.

Decided to try this place out as I remember dining at the one on Cambie to be alright.

Everything on the menu seems to be on a pricey side for a HK style cafe.

A lot of the typical western dishes like baked seafood on rice/portugese style on rice ranged from $12-$15 with no drink included.

Food overall tasted alright; service was just ok; but I felt it was too pricey even though the presentation of the food and restaurant itself was more upscale. Then when it came to paying the bill, they told me they don't accept Mastercard. Only Visa or debit. So that irked me.

Overall 6.5/10. Most likely won't be going back and would rather stick to Alleluia or Kingspark for more bang for my buck HK Style Cafes
