Just for ZN6, I will give this a 10/10.

I went to the take out location next door to the main location. No line up, no mess, no fuss.
Wow that looks a lot better than when I had the piece of shit they served me. Mine was just shredded and all over the fuckin' place. French people don't like me.

Kin Kao Thai Kitchen

Address: 903 Commercial Dr, Vancouver, BC V5L

Heard about this place for a while but took me eons to find a chance to come here.
Small little place, great service and clean bright place.

Papaya salad is pretty standard, we ordered mild and it still had a solid kick.

DEEP FRIED SOUR CURED PORK RIBS: pork ribs marinated with cooked rice, kosher salt, and garlic. Holy crap, it tasted awesome. Wonderful flavor and a huge bowl that two people couldn't finish. It was cured for sure and it was just amazing. Salty and sweet in way. Would recommend.

GRILLED MARINATED PORK COLLAR SKEWERS: Pork collar, enough said. Thick slices, 4 skewers, paired with a dip. Just amazing & perfect.

NORTHEASTERN STYLE STEAK - thinly sliced skirt steak, roasted rice, lemongrass, shallots, mint leaves, lettuce, cilantro, roasted chili flakes, soy sauce, lime juice and fish sauce.

not a saucy dish which was ok; dried in a way but the roasted rice gave it a good texture and the mint leaves and lime juice worked really well.

Very happy I came here, something different than thai house per se and it's a cozier place so I'm very happy. Portions are on the small size but very happy with it.

9/10

Guu in aberdeen mall

worst guu of all places, older chefs and cooks who doesn't know how to style it compared to downtown counterparts

only thing they have for is sushirolls but guu isn't made for sushi rolls.

Ate guu two days in a row (thurlow and richmond)

Sashimi salad in Richmond came with only 1 shrimp 1 scallop, smaller pieces of fish

Thurlow had 2 scallops, 2 shrimps, and bigger pieces of fish and more sauce

very very inconsistent

My experience at Richmond last week was completely opposite of yours.

In fact, it was a solid 9/10. Very inconsistent.

Love that place, I don't drink but they have a few craft beers like Talisman on tap that's supposed to be really good.

Owner is Thai, most of the kitchen staff is Thai. Legit. I actually went a few nights ago.

Protip, park on venables around the corner, it's free parking. Their thai iced tea is also good.

Yes, I have. I think we both agree - it is very inconsistent. The Richmond location has its ups and downs.

Pho Lotus
Vermicelli bowl with beef wrap, spring rolls, and sugarcane shrimp. Fish sauce was bland and boring. Sugarcane shrimp was puny. Lacks herbs in the veggie mix.

Salad roll with beef wrap.. salad rolls looks dull and lacks herbs. Points for using mam nem as dipping sauce.

6/10

lol that place... did you see the main clientele? I work around there so I eat most food in that area and Lotus is usually the 5th or 6th choice. I eat there because there's usually parking available. Most people just eat and gtfo.

I live walking distance to pho lotus, place is absolutely trash in terms of Pho compared to east van , surrey etc. Went once and it was the most bland soup base my family and myself ever had!

do not bother

i usually go there for pho for lunch since i work nearby and there is nothing much around the area. usually get the soup noodle stuff and its okay. not as good as what i get in east van but since there is nothing else around this has to do.

Their Papaya Salad is good. had it a couple of times

Cinara for our anniversary dinner.

First off, I was going into this expecting a lot. Lucais Syme is one of my favourite chefs in the city and a major influencer of mine. I was almost afraid to go in the past because I've heard mixed reviews.

The bill was about $250, for that, its gotta be basically perfect.

1st course
anchovies on toast 10/10
perfectly balanced seasoning, acidity and textures. The bread was chewy, nicely toasted and couldn't have been fresher. Fresh herbs were flavourful, radish added a nice texture and some bite.

2nd course
Octopus, pomme puree, haricot vert. 9/10
Some of the most tender octopus I have had (the stuff we made for a feature at work is in that realm as well) delicate textures, olive vinaigrette added a nice salty flavour without being briney.
Salumi plate 100/10
So much meat. All ridiculously good. Speck was my favourite.

3rd
Rabbit ragout 10/10
Literally an explosion of flavour, pasta noodles were perfect and fresh

NY strip medallions, baked fingerlings 10/10
Again, just perfect. Tender, cooked properly, simple and to the point.

Service was fantastic, they took the time to pair wines, attentive without overbearing, and treated us well. I find often when I go out I look like a bag of shit with a long scraggly beard and old vans and look a bit ragged after a 12-13 hour day in the kitchen, so sometimes as a younger couple some older servers don't show the most interest in us as customers. This wasn't the case here.

After the meal Lucais came and chatted with us about the food and I got to shoot the shit with him about our suppliers, events and other chef related shit. It was very cool being able to chat with someone I've looked up to for so long.

I can't afford many nights out like this, since apparently this is what people in the real estate thread think a family spends on food in a month so everyone should be able to afford to buy a house in this city, but it was well worth it, and a perfect meal for a special occasion. Strongly recommended.

i see nothing great of these poke spots other than being a hipster joint. Looks visually beautiful but has no gains , doesn't make me full

rather go chipotle and grab a bowl. Go ham on the sodium and protein
