Teppan Village up in Whistler has some of the best steak and seafood you'll ever have. But the best in Vancouver is hands down Gotham, the best combo is the Porterhouse with a side of Gotham Hash Browns and the belgian chocolate bourbon cake for dessert. :drool the taste is coming back to me...

Still Mortons hands down. I love their prime rib daaaaaamn

Another to that list is Saltlik. I thought they were alright. About the same level as the Keg to me. But it has been a while since I've been there.

freeze2010gtr 08-26-2009 06:54 AM

Another option is Katanas in langley, teppenyaki steak, mmmmmmmmm

SkinnyPupp 08-26-2009 07:00 AM

The Keg is usually bad for me, I think I only had 1 or 2 good steaks there. The rest are decent at best, and I have had to send steaks back more than a few times.

You might ask why I keep going back, but as you probably know, The Keg is on most peoples' short list of places to go for a steak, so you end up going there quite a bit.

Want to hear something crazy? Try Boston for a good steak. Yup, the HK style cafe has great steaks - definitely better than the Keg. And the price is good too.

If you want a really good steak, Gotham is a sure bet.

Hy's is the way to go.....what makes them different is...the decor is completely old school and their cheese toast is to die for. I would go to Hy's just for their cheese toast and wedge salad.

When you go to Hy's you expect to see Don Draper and Roger Sterling from Mad Men having a few cocktails.

btw, Hy's is the first restaurant for the Eisenstat (spelling?) family. Owners of The Keg.

NNT 08-26-2009 07:35 AM

Morton all the way, but on regular days Keg's prime rib is good enough.

StylinRed 08-26-2009 08:34 AM

Best.. @home

Outside.... Earls the one on Kingsway close to Metrotown

been to another earls' but its not as good as the one on kingsway
can't remember the price i think its around $30-$40 (don't usually go for steak)

I went to CHOP, it was really expensive for what you pay for in RICHMOND. I mean it's not bad, but I wouldn't wnat to go there cause it's at a location where you just eat and you can't bump around after, compared to other downtown location.

Yes, the steak bites on their appetizers (are meat ends) they are ok.. i'm sure I wrote a review somewhere before on CHop.

Caver's steak house at Executive Airport Hotel in richmond, New Westminster and Gilbert is suppose to be really good but I saw some reviews and they bashed them like crazy so i'm not sure if i want to take my clietns there.

3seriesBeeM 08-26-2009 11:03 AM

my fav steak house is mortons. But for the price the keg is not bad

Queen's on No 3 & Westminster?

Durrann1984 08-26-2009 04:16 PM

how about affordable steak like under $30?

i guess u guys mentioned The Keg,

anyplace else?

woob 08-26-2009 05:22 PM

My fav steak is at Morton's. 2nd would be Gotham's. I really gotta give Hy's a go though. The Keg is pretty meh compared to Morton's/Gothams.

Boston

Durrann1984 08-26-2009 05:57 PM

^^ thanks

edit: i dont know how liable dinehere.ca is but looks like boston steakhouse is going downhill

??

yiujun 08-27-2009 08:46 PM

One-time experience @ Morton's sucked. Tried their filet mignon and it was bland as hell.

Been to Gothams several times. Tried their taster entree - it was great. I always enjoy my time there. It's smaller than Mortons and therefore service imo was better. Ambiance @ Gothams much better than @ Mortons.

The Keg has been good. When you order medium rare, you get medium rare. Ordered rare last time and hell it was rare. Service sort of slipped a bit the last time I was there and food didn't disappoint.

freakshow 08-28-2009 11:48 AM

Do NOT go to CHOP for steak. They aren't bad, but for the price, you can get MUCH better.

Ciopinnos has one of the best steaks I've had.

cctw 08-30-2009 11:45 PM

Affordable steak..hmmm...
LA Grille...$10 for 8 oz NY steak with salad, potatoes, garlic bread and rice haha

If you are cooking steak at home.. remember to dry age your beef!

http://www.chow.com/home_cooking_digest/2389

It is always handy to have a second up to date fridge at hand!

I haven't read it, but it could be that they're just not used to HK style service ;)

you can buy dry-aged, organic, Canada Prime or AAA grade steaks at Hopcotts out in Pitt Meadows and the pricing is basically the same as superstore (all their meats are dry-aged for at least 28days, regardless of grade)

they get their beef from their cow farm next door

p.hong88 08-31-2009 08:16 PM

Hys steak house is really good. salt lik isnt bad either

SiR001 08-31-2009 10:58 PM

Boston in Richmond was not bad, decently priced - HK style.

Saltlik is on par with Keg pricing and decent steaks as well. Kegs are hit N miss depending on type of steak, their prime rib is usually consistent. Hy's is great as is Morton's, have yet to try Gothams to compare. Cactus Club surprisingly has decent steaks too, Earls = hit N miss again.
