best place in town for steak?

i only know of 2. Mortons and Gotham.

any others that youve tried and would go for again?

mako 06-03-2008 04:02 PM

never been to either of those two

Keg has always been consistently good for me

BlackZRoadster 06-03-2008 04:09 PM

Hamilton Street Grill in Yaletown. Maybe not the best steak place around, but they have a unique cut called the Hanger steak. It's a tougher cut of beef, but has an incredible flavour. I haven't seen it offered at any other local steak places.

Second Hy's, especially the cheese bread, to die for! For those going to Gotham's and need help picking the wine, PM me. We recently done a study on their wine list looking at the ratings.

I had that during dine-out, i was not in favour of it... very... normal.

Seems like something I shouldn't be paying for... tough, and very... chewy?

In terms of Steak Houses I've tried the following

Keg - Generic and nothing special. Anything other then the prime rib is shit.
Hy's - Meh. Expected a little bit more. Nothing special but the starter bread is off the chain
Mortons - Dope imo. My favorite so far
Gotham - Pretty decent as well but I like Mortons more

Where is HY? I haven't heard of it.

Best steak I've had, has not been in town

I've been on a few business trips to Orlando, FL

There's a restaurant called Kres

very classy place, and their Kobe Ribeye is the best thing on this planet. I go out of my way to go on trips to Orlando now simply for that steak.
thats how good it is =P

I plan to have my next family vacation there so my wife can finally try it hehe

we had a dinner, it was either the Keg or salt lik. The vote went to salt lik cause the girls were prettier.

i gotta say, the decor, and atmosphere and the waitresses were super pretty, nice and very very professional. we were all very impressed with the steaks. the appetizers were ok but the steaks were amazing.

Salt lik - totally unexpected for being a great place for steaks at a great price. it's on alberni and burrard.

mangopudding 06-20-2008 10:09 PM

mortons steakhouse

mako 06-21-2008 12:13 AM

Salt Lik is quite good

RS_Pat 06-21-2008 08:12 PM

Morton's is having their $119 dinner for 2 till the end of the month, good deal if you compare it to their regular prices.

i trust no one but myself with my steaks. and even then it's totally rare that i can find a nice piece at the market.

lgman 06-23-2008 02:33 AM

Marinaside grill in North van under the overpass.
http://www.marinagrill.com/contact.htm
The Keg tends to over season(salt) their Prime ribs and is never consistent.
Try their Big Beef ribs too, its huge!

Black Angus
I know this isn't local anymore but there's one ~30 mins across the border. If you love AAA angus steak then this is the place.

wayo 06-23-2008 08:48 PM

punkwax 08-25-2009 02:31 PM

Morton's hands down.

hamsup 08-25-2009 02:36 PM

Hy's has got to be one of the better steaks i've had..

Gothams is overrated.

The keg is consistant
CHOP in richmond is really good too. The steakbites as appies are soooooooo good.
Griffins at Vancouver Hotel is really good too

The hanger steak at hamilton street grill is horrible.. lol !!! I don't know how flavorful the meat is b/c they just drenched it in sauce !

Great68 08-25-2009 03:07 PM

Believe it or not, I had my best steak ever at Cin Cin.

Forgot to add Pinkys to the list. It's aight but nothing special. For their prices I would only perhaps go on their 50% off tuesdays otherwise nah.

Still Mortons hands down. I love their prime rib daaaaaamn
