Finally got on the 6GB data plan. Tethering is great. Have my 1000HE netbook connected all day and it charges the phone at the same time.

So a friend was wondering, is there anywhere you can get a 1st Gen iPhone screen replaced for a decent amount in Richmond?

weird thing happened with my 3GS this morning. as i was scrolling through some websites i noticed the screen was jittering up and down and not scrolling smoothly. the same happened to my volume control in the iPod.

i decided to reboot the iPhone. bad mistake.

the phone then refusesed to boot past the Apple logo and hung there for over 5 minutes. then the macromedia timer icon would run a bit then the whole screen would sort of get static-ey and shut down and restart. this continued and i couldnt enter DFU mode either.

eventually i just tried itunes to update to 3.0.1 firmware and had to re JB my phone. didn't lose any critical data tho.

anyone else have this issue?

my phone is only 1 week old.

I read this as I'm upgrading to 3.0.1 right now!! Hope it all works out for me...
BTW, I found this really good app through appulo.us called Traffic Canada. Gives you access to all the traffic cameras around town! Not sure if it's widely known but I thought it would be useful to most people as we all know how bad traffic is getting around town!

^^nice! i am actually downgrading to 3.0 again as 3.0.1 killed my AV output cables.

EDIT: BOLLOCKS. downgrading the firmware didn't work. i got 2 useless cables now :(

EDIT2: i musta did it wrong.tried again, and it works

dai3yuen 08-18-2009 08:50 PM

Well, the FW upgrade process went through with no problems but I forgot to write down the list of apps I installed thru Cydia....so as I was reinstalling Backgrounder, I hit the 'Restart Cydia' button before the little circle timer thingy had completed....arghhhhh!!!

Had to do a full restore from scratch!!!

So, by 1am this morning, I had my phone back up and running, but I know that I'm missing some apps as I added the xsellize repo but I can't remember what I got from there...LOL

Anyways, 3.0.1 seems to be working fine for me...so far....cross fingers!!!

After a couple months of owning my 3GS there is a pretty big piece of dust under the screen right beside the home button...blah I hate dust under the screen. Guess I gotta make an appointment to get it looked at.

I don't even keep my phone in my pocket

hotjoint 08-19-2009 07:00 AM

I havent upgraded to 3.0.1 its nothing big anyways. 3.0 works fine :)

most likely no. my 3g had dust under the screen and the genius was able to replace the screen and hand me back the phone with a brand new screen and the same fuck up scratched back.

if you 3gs is under 1 month or watever it is for the full exchange period and u want a brand new phone i suggest you deal with fido/rogers instead of apple cause I'm pretty sure for any screen problems they are doing repair in store now. that is if there is nothing else wrong with your phone

Psykopathik 08-19-2009 01:08 PM

Rogers told me they would send me a new phone (prolly refurb) but looked new anyways, and to send mine back when it arrived.

send it right away or you will be charged the price of a new phone.

got a whole new phone and didn't have to wait around.

trying out TomTom now seems to work ok. didn't even know it had a real gps chip in it. seems to work pretty good although very bare bones. $99 on the iphone store seems pretty steep for software only. all maps are stored on your phone so its a pretty big footprint. over 2 gb

standalone systems cost less.

DJ Milk 08-21-2009 10:09 PM

I use Navigon cause the maps actually looks a little better. Aslo I was able to delete every maps except BC, Alberta, and Washingon State so that brought down the size of the ipa from 1.3gb to 170mb

Psykopathik 08-22-2009 04:47 AM

^^^nice

ya the Navigon looks way better. Tomtom starts up faster tho. both very similar in function.

funny, i couldn't get a gps signal today. drove from Coquitlam to vancouver and the signal kicked in 1 block before my destination...

im installing iGo now.

Psykopathik 08-22-2009 05:48 PM

For those who don't know. All these gps apps don't need a data connection. All maps are stored on the phone like a regular gps

goo3 08-22-2009 10:18 PM

I finally have some free time to upgrade my SW from 2.2 to 3.0. What's the best way to keep my hackulous apps? My iTunes does have those apps stored. Is that good enough for backup or do I need to do more before I redsn0w and ultrasn0w the thing?

!MiKrofT 08-23-2009 12:13 AM

One thing that was neat with Navigon was the gas station and fast food logos on the map haha. Igo. Slow load but fast gps aquisition. Igo also has 3d buildings for some cities.

Does anyone know of a way to make it so when my phone rings it go right to the "Decline" and "Accept" buttons rather than "Slide to Answer"

threezero 08-23-2009 02:30 AM

^^^ you know you can decline a call by pressing the power button once

you can slient the call by pressing the volume button and of course answer by sliding

That only happens as an option when the keypad is UNLOCKED.

!MiKrofT 08-23-2009 11:17 AM

My new purchase. Incipio Feather case. Waiting for it to arrive to replace my fading Air Jacket

Death2Theft 08-23-2009 11:34 AM

SO i take it you'd have to enter where you are manually then and it can't keep progress as u go thru your route?
