Although, in Calgary it may work with the type of players on that team.

Getting what you want with honey is a lot more effective than a whip, IMHO.
In general, that may be the case... but sometimes you HAVE to crack the whip, too.

Really, if any ONE coaching strategy worked, everyone would be using it and coaches would be interchangeable... and thus coaches would never have to get fired. But then that would require all players to be identical and interchangeable, and then nobody would ever need to get traded.

Different coaching styles work better for different players, and more importantly, for different GROUPS of players. Change one piece in any working system, and it may keep working... or it may completely fall apart. Unfortunately the only way to find out is usually by trying it.

And look at the players they had.

Also, look who took them to the 7th game and almost took it from them.

Keenan is the 5th winningest coach in NHL history. He has also destroyed some teams, too. Love him or hate him, there's a time and place for guys like him.

Take a look at his record. He hasn't done well in the last few years and positions. Could it be his style of coaching is no longer effective? The game of hockey is forever changing. I remember the days the European players started coming over to NA. We never looked back. We now have way better hockey - best of both worlds. OK, that was a little off topic.

Yep, life sucks and then you die. Nobody except the kid and his family/friends are going to remember it. I hope the kid continues to get better and do well. It's not about Gretzky, it's about a local kid who has made it to the NHL.

I picked him up too in RS1. He should be better than Brunnstrom since he's older and knows how to play defensive hockey.

"Fabio" LAWL.

Hmm, didn't the same thing happen with last year's big-name, everybody-wants-him-but-doesn't-want-his-8-million-friends, trade-deadline star, Brad Richards? Went to the stars, had like a 20-point game, and then vanished from sight?

Dallas = hockey graveyard?

I was thinking the same thing yesterday. So he goes on the open market instead of signing with the Nucks because Nonis was fired, well he sat the first few games of the season, and last time I checked, was playing on the 4th line. Good for you.

thank you.
and re: wayne: exactly. this wasn't "some coach power tripping"... it's wayne gretzky. if anyone knows the game and what kind of effect it has on young players, it's that man. just lije in life: you don't improve by getting things for free, you improve by learning lessons early on.
Save the name-calling for the fight club. If you aren't capable of having a discussion, then perhaps you should stay out of this thread.

Having skill does not translate to being a good leader. As a coach, Wayne Gretzky has a sub .500 winning percentage and his team has missed the playoffs for the past three seasons.

I don't mean to slag Gretzky, he is undoubtedly the best to have played the game. However, I don't think he is suited to be a coach in this league.

I don't wanna touch the Stars this year in any pools. The team morale appears to be imploding with Avery and Ott's antics.

Too bad the Canucks didn't take a shot at Parrish. For the price, the risk to reward ratio wasn't that bad.

when your starting goalie has 42 goals against 11 games into the season, it's no suprise half the team has a minus rating. bertuzzi has 12 points and the same rating as fabian. it's a shitty/non-indicative stat.
