so, LOU doesn't let in soft goals? cause he's been doing that since coming back from his injury.

I;d rank luongo
1) martin brodeur
2) kipper
3) steve mason
4) petr skudra
5) luongo

Harvey Specter 03-14-2009 12:25 AM

I'm sure Lu will get his game back before the playoffs.

cspec 03-14-2009 12:34 AM

The Henrik Sedin goal was epic.

He is good, that's for sure, but I rank him lower than a handful of goalies. Good thing the team is putting them in - they don't have to rely on him as much as they used to. Plus, he's a little too emo. When things go bad, he kind of loses it. Then again, when things go well, that same intensity works in his favour.

It feels that he does get emo, but for some reason, he never seemed to get like this when he was on a losing Florida team a few years back...

Shiet, you would even say Skudra's better?? That's a big slap in the face.
We had that backup goalie, and he sure wasn't eating 6.5 mil of salary.

Harvey Specter 03-14-2009 02:33 AM

Kippers good but even he's had a shitty month. He's had 3 games this month were he's allowed 5 goals.

6thGear. 03-14-2009 02:36 AM

I've said this the day he came here. There's no doubt when he's on top of his game, he's one of the best goalies out there but even then I wouldn't class him as elite. He doesn't belong in the same class as Roy or Brodeur. He has the potential to put himself in that class, but he's got to work at it. Elite goalies bounce back from anything, bad game to soft goals, to injuries. Just look at Brodeur, since he's back he's got 2 SO and won 6 or 7 games.
Luongo on the other hand has had the rest of the team bailing him out by outscoring the opposition.
Yes, he undeniably has the most skill set of all the Canuck goalies but unfortunately Mclean will always be the best goalie in Canuck history to me and no matter how many records Luongo shatter of Kirk's, until he carries this team to the Stanley Cup, he's got a long road ahead of him to win me over.

But I'm sure I'm not the only one in here beginning to think Lu's overrated. Softies and can't stickhandle the puck if his life depended on it.... But at the same time, I'm just glad he's not like any of the past goalies Canucks have had. But I really wish he started playing like he did, the first season he was here.

Couldn't be as bad as Osgood. Back to back 8 goals against.

skudra lol, you mean vokoun?

Luongo's in my pool. His stats for the last month:

10-2
2.13 GAA
.921 SV%
0 SO

He could use another SO or two and a few more timely saves, then we can call him God. Other than that, some of you guys are on crack. .921 not good enough? YOu need .940 or something? It's not like he's playing in front of a stingy D.

Oh no, he's no Martin Brodeur. Let's shit on him. LOL, talk about being spoiled.

Yeah, the Wings have major goaltending issues right now but overall the team has fallen off. I watched the game vs. the Flames the other day and after watching that game I really don't see the Wings getting past the first round. Goaltending is awful but blowing a 4-2 lead with less under 5 mins left and losing in OT is unacceptable for one of the of top teams in the league and this coming off 8 goal games.

Vansterdam 03-14-2009 04:28 AM

great game!

CRS 03-14-2009 07:42 AM

The thing with Osgood is that he is CLUTCH when it comes to playoff. He becomes a whole new goalie.

suprasian 03-14-2009 08:10 AM

lu's not used to getting 20 shots a game so he gets antsy and starts playing the puck more often and that makes makes me cringe! that kopitar goal was bad, but he was money in the 2nd , and shut the door down after we retook the lead. maybe the whole captain thing isnt a great idea anymore. he's still top 5 in my books this year. broduer, mason, lundvuist, lu and kipper would be my order. what the nucks need to do is start scoring on the pp. game shoulda been over by midway through the 2nd

I love McLean for that run as much as the next guy and that run in 94 was magical but skill wise there is no comparison. Just like Rolston did for the Oilers a couple years back he got stupid hot for one playoff run but other then that he was just a bit better then average goalie.

punkwax 03-14-2009 08:34 AM

How quickly people forget Luongo vs. Stars playoff series.

The man is in the Brodeur + Roy Elite League.

He hasn't been the same since his injury, but he'll be back.

AzNightmare 03-14-2009 10:03 AM

^ No, we definately haven't Forgotten. We definately remember.
Which is exactly why I'm thinking wtf is going on??
Where's that guy that played in the 06-07 season?

most people will agree that lu has more skill than Mclean, but as 6thgear said, as well as me many times before, until lu gets us to within 1 goal of winning the stanley cup, Captain Kirk will be the canucks greatest goalie.

The thing i remember most in that series against the Stars wasn't Luongo, but Turco. Turco rocked that series, except Dallas couldn't get the wins for him. I mean 3 shutouts in his 3 wins with less that a 1.50 gaa? Crazy

imo you cant put him on that pedastal because he did not lead us there like a Patrick Roy leads montreal etc.

he was just a peice of the puzzle that got there, he in no way led them through that run.

Lu will get back to form, he always performs best when the games are the biggest, and like others have said, alot of people forget the playoffs 2 years ago.

Your wrong.. 4th place gets home ice advantage..it helps big time in the playoffs

It's tough for me to agree with all these Steve Mason lovers. It's his first NHL season, and although his stats are phenomenal I can't put him up sandwiched between Brodeur and Luo for the best goalie in the league...it's a bit much. I'm thinking he'll be a great goalie, but he does need some time before we can say that. Think Carey Price & Pascal Leclaire, both with huge seasons last year, but fell off HUGE this year....although Leclaires was based on an injury ridden season.

that's fail too i think kipper should be in there lol

this is my current list

1.) Martin Brodeur
2.) Mikka Kipprusoff
3.) Roberto Luongo
4.) Steve Mason
5.) Niklas Backstrom

Tim Budong 03-14-2009 01:49 PM

best current goaltenders for me

1. broduer
2. steve mason
3. backstrom
4. luuu
5. kipper

luu lacks the one puck handling skill to win that 1020 starting job...

it dont matter if its at homeor not
