Nice! And Daniel was named 2nd star of the week on NHL.com

Also, it's interesting to note how TSN comes up with these power-rankings.

"Note: Power Rankings are produced using a formula that takes into account a compilation of individual player grades based on statistical production. More importantly, the team grades intend to take into account which players are in the lineup to replace those who are out due to injury or suspension and aim to reflect which team would win a seven-game series on neutral ice."

Just to shed some light on why the Sharks would be significantly lower than the Canucks right now.

Huge Canucks/Hawks line brawl, with catfight hair pulling

At about 5:50 of the third period in the Vancouver Canucks/Chicago Blackhawks game Sunday night, goalie Roberto Luongo stopped the Hawks' Dustin Byfuglien from point-blank range.

Byfuglien didn't appreciate this and, with his team down 3-0, decided to give Luongo a shot to the mask with his glove, earning a goaltender interference penalty.

By the end of the chaotic line brawl between the teams that followed the incident, there would be 12 additional penalties called, including six 10-minute misconducts and at least one case of catfight-like hair pulling.

The first two players to dance were Chicago's Ben Eager and the Canucks' Kevin Bieksa, in a fight that featured more undressing than a burlesque show and one very stiff pop to the face by Eager that sent Bieksa to the ice. The linesmen would break it up, but not befire Bieksa left some blood on the Chicago ice after the fight.

Then, Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith and Vancouver's Alex Burrows had a skirmish which saw Keith apply a headlock and Burrows grab a lock of Keith's hair refusing to let go even as the two tumbled to the ice. So not only is Burrows one of the NHL's greatest pests, but he evidently learned how to fight by watching "Mean Girls." :haha:

While it didn't escalate to an all-parties-involved melee, it didn't lack for entertainment:

Chicago's super-pest Adam Burish helped escalate things by going after noted non-fighter Henrik Sedin, according to defenseman Shane O'Brien of the Canucks, who told the Vancouver Sun:

"I had Eager originally and I didn't think anything was happening and looked over my shoulder and I saw Burish going after Henrik, so I just tried to get in there to try and get him," O'Brien said. "I guess Eager went around and got Juice [Bieksa]."

Earning misconducts were Chicago's Eager, Cam Barker, Keith and Burish; as well as Vancouver's O'Brien and Bieksa. Perhaps the most important thing earned in the game: Two points in the standings for Vancouver, with a 4-0 win; tying them with fourth-place Chicago in the Western Conference playoff race.

Nice, I'd like to say it's sad to see the wheels fall of the flames but it's not. I'm actually really enjoying watch them choke they remind me of us last year.

MR_BIGGS 03-30-2009 07:56 PM

WOW the red hot Flames who were deemed a lock for the NW division title lose tonight to the injury riddled Sharks! and the Vancouver Canucks are breathing down their necks !!

what a change a couple of months makes!! There is a real realistic shot for the Canucks to win the DIV title now! They control their destiny with a win 2morrow night..

Barring a complete collapse - you have to be pretty confident with the Canucks rolling into the playoffs...They just have to keep healthy! Please no Dmen go down!

68style 03-30-2009 08:11 PM

Might be shooting ourselves in the foot if we finish above the Flames... I'd personally rather face Chicago than Colombus in the playoffs if I had a choice... naturally things can and probably will change from the order they're in now... but still...

Although the prospect of playing Nashville is enticing...

Sucks that all the teams (Chicago, Nashville, Colombus) are so far away, travel will be a huge factor no matter who we play.

411ken 03-30-2009 08:21 PM

I agree..that facing the Hawks will be good but I wouldn't mind facing the Jackets as well.. who knows how Mason can handle the pressure in the playoffs being a rookie and all... as the hawks have huet and khabibulin... we shall see. Who else is ready for some Canucks playoff hockey? =D
