Well the cap issue plus the fact the NHLPA didn't want Ryan making it sound like he was encouraging other players to take pay cuts below the market values.

bengy 04-29-2009 02:35 PM

cuz it's a union...

syee 04-29-2009 02:44 PM

I wonder if their union dues are based on a percentage of players salary? Wouldn't be surprised if it was, and would explain why they don't encourage the "home team discount".

trancehead 04-29-2009 02:47 PM

The league wants parity among the teams so of course they dont want teams stacked with players giving home discounts

Hondaracer 04-29-2009 03:15 PM

I also said they would sign for less then 6 million many many pages ago and i'll stand by that

the sedins arent stupid and neither is Gillis, they will work somthing out they can both agree on, i really dont see the sedins holding out

trancehead 04-29-2009 04:41 PM

100 million over 100 years for both of the Sedins
Quote me sig me on this.

Harvey Specter 04-29-2009 04:57 PM

I'm not too worried about the Sedins, i'm more worried about resigning Lu.

Ok, so lets say the Sedins don't sign with the Canucks, would it really be the end of the world?

DanHibiki 04-29-2009 05:41 PM

Well who are your possible replacements for them?

Harvey Specter 04-29-2009 05:49 PM

That is the million dollar question. It would be tough to replace them.

The reason why I'm too worried about the Sedins resigning is not too many teams in the NHL are willing to sign both of them. This was discussed during the NHL trade deadline and from what I read Burke and the Leafs have shown interested but even Burke said it would be tough for him or any team in the NHL to sign both of them. I think the best fit for them would be Vancouver if both sides can come up with a fair price.

(expires at the end of the month)

you can use it to get a blank jersey for 99.99 (after coupon) or one with name for 179.99 (after coupon).

I went to the Canucks Team Store at GM Place this morning. They're sold out of this year's alternate jersey (no name) with the stick/rink logo except for size XXL (tagged at $139.99). They had lots of sizes for the home/away jerseys (no name) with orca logo for $139.99. They also had a good selection of named home/away/alternate jerseys for $219.99. I was surprised to find Linden and Bure white jerseys with the skate logo for $219.99 in many sizes. All no name womens jerseys seemed to have lots of sizes too ($89.99 I think).

I went to Sporchek at Pacific Centre in Downtown Vancouver. They had several sizes of the no name alternate jersey for $129.99, which I bought with a $20 off $100 coupon. They also have the old orca logo jerseys in navy or white for $39.99.

I'm not sure how many teams you think have 12mil in cap space (with the cap going down) for 2 players who can't be split up?

Tim Budong 04-29-2009 07:03 PM

the sedins are a special case
this is the worst comparison or stat for anything, but henrik topped up 3 assists at the all star game

regardless, there could be teams out there that will take a chance and try to sign one. but contention teams will ahve to clear some space to make room for them
So this year its sedins + ohlund, next year is Kesler + Lu

its part of the league
i honestly believe that something will be done. They have stepped up their play in the final stretch b4 the playoffs, and with the emergence of MONSTER, the twins are even more pressured to sign if they want to produce. At the same time, with MONSTER coming up, the Canucks themselves want to get it done
They have FOUND the chemistry that has been lacking since Anson Carter

as for lu, you sign him, and probably means goodbye Freckle Schnieder

If you want them you move a higher profile (paid) player or two out for draft picks or younger guys making low numbers and then sign them. It can be done and it can certainly be done by Toronto. They had over 8 million in capspace as is and Gerber is a UFA so adious 3.7 million in dollars for him alone.

I hope I'm so wrong that baby jebus flys out of the skies and clubs me with his manger. The Sedins sign for 5 million or something lowish for them and I have egg all over my face, I'll own it. The rumor is Gillis had 5.5 each on the table before negotiations broke off for the year and they wern't willing to accept that at the time.

AzNightmare 04-29-2009 07:21 PM

Interesting song. But seriously, the rapper needs to learn how to enunciate better.

I believe a big part of that had to do with term. Sedins want a long term contract while gillis was only willing to give them a couple of years.
