just got home from the game, insane atmosphere at downtown

i can imgaine how big is gonna be at downtown this comming saturday !

SumAznGuy 04-30-2009 10:20 PM

I'll be there on saturday with my Sundin 3rd jersey on. Woohoo.

We watched the game from the Elephant pub tonight. They gave each table a puck with a Canuck player's name on it. If that player scored, the table gets a free pitcher of beer. Our puck had the name Salo and the table next to us had Ryan Johnson. Needless to say, we were very happy and very satisfied by the end of the game. Free beer. Woohoo.

You sir, do not belong here in this thread.

Harvey Specter 04-30-2009 10:25 PM

Sundin set up the first goal. Sure his line was a -2 but the entire team was at fault for the 3rd period collapse.

Yeah, the game and downtown were crazy. Soooooooo many hot chicks out. I'm going Sat, can't wait.

lilaznviper 04-30-2009 10:26 PM

he doesnt watch hockey alot lol

InvisibleSoul 04-30-2009 10:28 PM

Apparently the tooth that Wellwood lost was already a fake tooth, so no biggie there.

I think this was one of those situations that could have been really, really bad... like Cloutier letting in the goal from center ice bad... but the fact that it didn't cost us in the end makes it a huge momentum boost...

orange7 04-30-2009 10:34 PM

at least the canucks had the pressure of giving up a 3-0 lead. hopefully they won't let it happens again.

lol, I had to admit I was LOL-ing for some reason why Wellwood got hit again.
Yess!!!! another 4 min PP (too bad Canucks couldn't bury the game then.)

Canucks really need to work on the PP. They should of finished the game much better than this. At one point, I saw maybe "too much confidence?"

So much fancy passing, which was not all that bad, because the passing was connecting, but several times, some of the players should of just fired the puck instead. I believe some passes even went to players that had a worse shooting angle. I think even the commentator mentioned that.

And Demitra's goal celebration FTW. hahaa

You're going to pay a guy over $5mil to sit in the pressbox during the playoffs?

AzNightmare 04-30-2009 11:04 PM

I guess we all can agree getting Sundin was a good move by Gillis now? :)

iPee 04-30-2009 11:14 PM

Demitra celebration was epic, looked like the ultimate warrior.

Harvey Specter 04-30-2009 11:16 PM

Sundin was a good signing but overall Gillis has impressed me. I give him major points for not firing AV in Jan/Feb. I also give him points for not making a stupid trade at the deadline when everyone was saying Gillis had fucked up the Canucks chances for going deep. Overall Gillis deserves a lot of credit for the team we're seeing on the ice right now.

wellwoods tooth got knocked out 3 times now apparently.. i guess a fake tooth cant compare to a real one lol

6thGear. 04-30-2009 11:26 PM

Aw man. Bittersweet night for me. Missed the 2nd and 3rd period for my playoff game. But we won our Div tonight for Coast League and then find out the Canucks won!! SWEET!! Too bad I'll miss the 2nd and 3rd period for game 2 again cause I got a stupid PICH game. hahaha.

MG1 04-30-2009 11:31 PM

^^^I believed in Gillis from day one. Why? Because he keeps his word and gives people a chance to prove themselves. Maybe it's due to the experiences he gained as a players' agent - understanding the wants and needs of a professional athlete. I always liked the way he handled the press early on in his stay here in Vancouver. He had a plan and knew what the people here wanted. He has good leadership qualities and is pretty even keeled. We saw him when times were bad and he showed no signs of panic. I really wonder what kind of relationship he has with the owners.

Edit: I also like what AV brings to the table. He showed us that he's not a one trick pony. In fact, the whole coaching staff is pretty good. I bet Ryan Walters made a difference this year, too. In any case, the Canucks have a lot of things going for them right now. Let's hope the wheels don't come off and that everybody stays healthy.

Not only that, but Gillis has been thinking outside the box by bringing in sleep consultants and dietitians, using former players like Dave Gagner and Scott Mellanby as scouts, and bringing in a salary cap expert.

Gillis' finest work - getting the most out of Kyle Wellwood.

And Aqualini must be a genious or incredibly lucky in choosing a rookie GM that turned out just fine.

Harvey Specter 04-30-2009 11:59 PM

Yup, all good points about Gillis and coaching staff.

I bet both your tables felt screwed before the game even started lol. Nice to hear it turned out well.

They did. It was an appropriate response by AV. When Eager was out there hitting and gaining the Hawks some phsyical territory, AV sent Hordi out there to get it back in response.

Unfortunately for Hordi, he played like shit. All his hits were late, soft, and slow. In fact, I think all his hits on that shift were so behind that he had to reach with his harms to make contact instead of utilizing his body. Which of course led to a penalty then to a goal.

Hawks are a fast team. It's either Hordi can't hit what he can't catch or maybe just slow from the long gap between series 1 & 2 and the minimal icetime he gets.

Crazy game but seriously Canucks can't be blowing huge leads or it's going to cost 'em.

Werd or else we won't survive Detroit even if we manage to overcome Chicago.

Hondaracer 05-01-2009 09:08 AM

Fuckng idiots on this other forum I'm on, they ate like "pfft wellwood didn't even get hit on the 2nd high stick, he bit his lip to cut himself"
