Has anyone here taken HSCI 120 as a GPA booster with Michel Joffres? Searched up the course outline and saw the 50% midterm and 50% final…

Anyone at SFU right now?

What is you're favourite place to study on campus? I need new places to study, getting tired of always sitting at the Mackenzie Cafe...

Straight forward class. Will agree that the lectures are dumb though. He gives you everything you need to know for the midterm and finals as well.

Empty AQ rooms (fourth level) are the best for studying. No one ever studies there, and there's always going to be at least one class that's empty. That's the only place I've been studying for this semester. I used to think the TASC building was a great place to study, but no, the AQ building beats it by miles.

Spoiler!

What's your guys' exam schedules like? For me, one exam on a Saturday and then after a few days I have three exams across two days.

Has anyone taken any kin (bpk) courses? I remember talking to someone about which kin course was the easiest a few semesters ago, but 1st and 2nd year problems = late ass enrollment dates which means I never had the chance to get in one. Which one do you guys recommend?

Thanks, Ill try those places out. As for my exam schedule, have a crim exam on the 4th I believe, then 5 days until a math exam. The next two exams happen with a day in between each.

Taking 140 with steven brown right now online.

His midterm was so easy. The MC portion was literally all recycled quiz questions that you have from each week and all you need to know for the written are the "list" of such symptoms, causes, and what not.

Aside from that there are weekly quizzes and 3 assignments

Cox is the boringest prof I have ever had at SFU. Take it with Krauth, you'll regret choosing Cox. Also, Cox only teaches Econ 105 once every 2 years, so you won't be able to find, or sell his textbooks, since he uses a different one from all the other profs.

Purely memorization based course. If you're good at memorizing, then go for it, super easy course. However, I am horrible with memorization (More of a calculations person), and I ended up doing pretty bad in that course.
The prof is a great guy though, very kind, and makes an effort to adjust to his students' needs.

Edit: Wait, is this for HSCI 120 or HSCI 140? I don't believe he teaches HSCI 120.

Probably wouldn't recommend it as a GPA booster. But as Supa said, memorization is pretty key in this course.

Anyone take crim 101 with Barry Cartwright or BUS 393? Thing is if I take crim 101, the final falls on April 20th 8:30am, which is the same day as my BUS 393 final, except it's at 7:00pm. Anyone take either of these courses? Will I struggle if the finals are on the same day?

Sorry, yea I was referring to HSCI 140. So pure memorization eh?

On a side note, has anyone taken Physics 101?

I'm kind of in a tough position cause I took the Physics 100 equivalent at Langara, but literally did not learn anything. The prof was completely useless.

I feel like I'll get wrecked in Physics 101 if I don't have the proper foundation for it, I've only taken physics 11 in high school and that was like 4 years ago.

And if I retake physics 100 it's going to waste one of my repeats which an advisor told me was not worth it…

So if anyone has taken Physics 101 please enlighten me on the course please.

Well I'm used to boring and not paying attention in class, I'm taking 103 with Barkin right now and I don't pay attention but getting an A- so that aspect doesn't bother me. The textbook bit does bother me a bit, ill consider it.
edit: Looks like Krauth uses a grading curve us anything below 70% is a fail. Not that I'm not confident i won't get more then 70% (i know i will) but that makes me question what a damn B+ would be lol

It's your first semester and you already hate 2 hour lectures then you're gonna have a miserable time for the rest of your degree. All classes after first year are going to be 2 hours and once a week, not 1hr 3x a week like first year classes.

Why don't you take GEOG111 as a GPA booster?

I'd agree with your advisor and wouldn't even waste my time with 100 courses unless you have to. PHYS101 is pretty fundamental stuff and not that difficult. It's very straight forward... vectors, torque, gravity, etc. If you can make it through calculus then I think you have the brain capacity to do it haha.

If you plan on doing the nutrition certificate, take BPK 111 as it is only offered once a year. I've heard it's quite easy but I haven't taken it.

Never took 105 but this course is the most "kinesiology" course out of all 3. It teaches how organs work and how they affect your body. If you're interested in see what Kinesiology/BPK major is about, then I would take this course.

143 is an okay course if you want to learn basics on exercising. Quite a bit of work but worth it if you want to learn about working out. Leyland is a good prof but he will talk about crossfit a lot

Easy = BPK 140
Memorization heavy = BPK 110
Insight of what Kinesiology is = BPK 105
A course that encompasses everything Kin related = BPK 142
Exercise and its fundamentals = BPK 143

His finals are known to be much more difficult than his quizzes/midterms. Awesome prof though.

On a side note, it seems like the whole 4 year for an undergrad is no longer relevant as everyone i know, including myself, seems to be taking 5+
