how is bus 336 with bernie maroney, and also bus 312 with moses zitron

Purely 03-17-2015 04:06 PM

I found the material in 312 to be quite difficult, but Zitron is a okay/decent prof. Note: He doesn't give you past mts/finals to study off (whereas Blazenko exams are open book, and based on the previous mts/finals that he provides to you to study off).

Took 336 with Johnson, but I have heard great things about Maroney. 336 is a bit more difficult compared to 232.

Maroney is a great lecturer. He's one of the best professors i've had at SFU. However, I feel his exams are harder than Johnson's.

I had Blazenko for 312, but i've heard good things about Zitron. Like gYU said, Blazenko's exams are open book and his exams are exactly the same as the sample midterms (with slight modifications), so it would be slightly easier with him. However, Zitron is still a good professor. His exams are intermediate level. They're not super hard, but you will need to know the concepts really well in order to finish the exam on time. Practice lots of questions for this class.

Any recommendations for fairly easy upper division, non-BUS, non-BUEC courses?

Taking Arch 100 Distance Ed, Arch 131 Distance Ed and CMPT 477.

Anyone in these classes? Not sure how I feel about Arch distance ed, but I heard they're relatively easy. Anyone have any input?

I took ARch100 with an instructor (David Maxwell) and the material was dryyyyyyyy. ALL memorization.

You can.

But you'll need permission from Langara first to make sure they'll allow you to use the SFU course as credit.

Has anyone taken GEOG 102 with Faran Ali? I took GEOG 111 with him already so I kinda have a feel for his teaching style, but what are his tutorials/assignments like in 102? Are the assignments big?

TheGreatLeader 03-25-2015 10:26 PM

Whats the earliest exam possible at sfu? I'm pretty sure it's at 830am, but I've been told by a friend they can start as early as 7:30. Is that true?

Fcukedd 04-01-2015 05:24 PM

Why does it matter? As long as mine aren't super early then I don't really care about other exam times lol

Never heard of an exam occurring at 7:30AM though

Noran 04-03-2015 05:04 PM

Earliest I've had is 8:30. You sure your friend didn't mean 7:30pm?

kevin7352 04-03-2015 05:33 PM

ATTN: Faran Ali no longer marks as easy as he use to. The department spoke with him about why his class averages were so fucking high all the time and now his classes are no longer jokes

Source: Friend taking GEOG411 with him currently

People in his 100 level classes this term say his marking is super easy though. Maybe that's because it's an upper division class? Did he specifically say that to the class?

ph0 04-04-2015 11:47 AM

all the classes I want are closed...fml

If he didn't say it to the class, how is your friend sure the department spoke to him? Is he just assuming that since he didn't do well on an assignment/exam?

I mean the education faculty has a mean GPA of 3.6...Approximately 2/3 of the people in each class get an A grade so I don't know why they're talking to Faran Ali. Yeah, his class averages are normally a B, but that's not extremely high when you compare it to some other programs.

Where you do you find the mean average of the different faculties?

I walked into one of my classes and there was an SFU newspaper on the ground so I picked it up and it had a graph of all the SFU programs and their mean GPA. The lowest programs were computing science, engineering, mathematics, psychology, and MBB around 2.3. Business was right in the middle around 3.0. Then education and some other arts programs were near 3.6.
