RacingMetro92 05-11-2015 10:21 PM

Finally got into BUS 361. someone here said they were taking it?

Just a heads up that the registration bug is happening again, where students that aren't on the waitlist can register in the class as long as there's space available, regardless if you're next on the waitlist. FUCK

3klipze 05-14-2015 03:16 PM

^ that bug is awesome. It has worked in my favour many times over and over again. I thought they fixed this a year or two ago

Average on quizzes are ~40%, average on MT was ~52%. Assignments were extremely time consuming and difficult but they are what saved me from failing.

Had CMPT 454 the same day, 82 multiple choice. Got ~60% on final exam, final grade of 70% got scaled to a B.

Nothing is more confusing than CMPT 365 though, that shit cray but uber-scaled. 40% on MT and 40% on Final and ended up with B+.

SFU comp sci is fked up.

Course seems like a shit load of work, the computing assignments are so time consuming and difficult as you say. If we don't maintain average of 40% on the assignments we can't take the final..

Lol, did you take it with JC Liu? I hear he recommends MATH 240 (not the applied MATH 232), STAT 285, MATH 251 and MACM 316 as prereqs.

But at least you actually learn something with him. Anyone who wants an easy course should have taken 365 with Mark Drew. :troll:

Hey guys, question on the rates for the 3d printer as shown here: https://www.sfu.ca/mechatronics/services/lab-3.html

Does the Lab Service Charge add onto the 3d printer setup charge?

jcmaz 05-25-2015 11:19 PM

I'm pretty sure you have to add the Lab Service Charge with the 3d printer setup charge. The SIAT workshop does that too if we want to laser cut or 3d print stuff and are not enrolled in the courses which give you access of the lab.

Spotting red MR2 parked at Duthie and Hasting with revscene sticker. Anyone here?

Anyone know why you have to bring your SFU ID with you when using the compass card? Is it simply because it is the beta/initial release? Or am I missing something?

You're technically required to carry your SFU ID even with the old paper U-Pass. Nothing's changed.

You have always been required to have your student ID with your U-pass. On the U-passes, it would write SFU. Translink requires you to have your student ID with you to confirm that you are an SFU student carrying an SFU U-pass. It's pretty stupid to be honest because most people just buy U-passes from people at the same school.

That's because you just write your own name on the old upasses, and they also said SFU/UBC/etc on the upass itself. With the new ones, I don't get why we need to carry it. I've read that translink doesn't have the profile information or even name of the compass users.... so what's the point?

I'm a bit skeptical on the idea that Translink doesn't have profile information for each UPass...

Maybe they'll have a scanner. Scanning a card brings bring up that student's profile. Then they can compare the student ID of the person physically holding the UPass with the info that was pulled up to the scanner.

no idea

According to the SFU page they don't have info...

To protect student privacy, SFU do not disclose personally identifiable information to TransLink when your eligibility information is uploaded to TransLink. No personally identifiable information is transferred when you link a Compass Card to your U-Pass BC account, or when you request your U-Pass BC for the current or next month.

Schools provide TransLink with anonymous data in the form of unique identifiers that indicate which student accounts are eligible for U-Pass BC each month. Schools also provide TransLink with a portion of your student number so that fare inspectors can match your student ID to the pass on a given Compass Card. All transmissions are encrypted.

For U-Pass BC users, TransLink only has access to your personal information if you provide it in the following situations:

You sign up for reminders on the U-Pass BC website
You produce your student ID when asked by Transit Police or Fare Inspectors
You purchase your Compass Card online or with a credit/debit card
You register your Compass Card (either on the Compass website or by phone)
You request a refund
Signing up for optional reminders lets you know when your U-Pass BC has been loaded onto your Compass Card or when it's time to request your U-Pass BC for a new month. Students who sign up for optional reminders will need to provide an email address, which is stored with your account and enables TransLink to send reminders and system updates. This is necessary so that students can manage their details (i.e. disable reminders or update an email address). Signing up for reminders is entirely optional.

Any use of personal information is governed by the TransLink’s Privacy Policy (http://www.translink.ca/-/media/Docu..._statement.pdf.).

Hmm, okay. Thanks for clarifying. Kind of confusing wording though, it says

Isn't this what we all had to do when we got the card regardless?

Regardless, i still have no idea why we need our student id...

I hope not! I'm taking 3 online courses this semester :okay:

v_tec 06-05-2015 04:21 PM

In Hong Kong, when an Octopus card is used by a concession (children/student/senior) fare on the bus and subway, there's a slightly different pitch in the beep / "doot" and a light flashing.

Does Translink have that?

Any easy 3 credit upper div electives to take?? I only need 4 more geography classes then I can have 3 electives. I'd rather do elective because all the upper div geog classes are 4 credits. If I take 7 geog classes I'll have two extra credits that I'm paying for.
