I tried that last time there was a meteor shower.

the lighting from the streets are way to bright and I could see shit.

Durrann1984 08-11-2008 10:54 AM

There aren't a lot of places in the Vancouver/Tri-city/Richmond areas where you can get to a dark enough area in order to see it properly. You need to either head north to at least Cypress (or even Grouse) or east towards the countryside of Langley onwards. I've already got my spot picked out for tonight.

Yes, it lasts several days... tonight will be the "peak" activity - according to PimpYourScope.com, upwards of 92-93 per hour.

Generally just lock your shutter open and leave it for a while - they'll leave long streaks across the small arcs of stars.

flameboy54 08-11-2008 06:42 PM

Suppose to peak just after midnight. CBC suggested to head out to Pitt Lake.

tiger_handheld 08-11-2008 06:51 PM

grouse mtn ?

TOPEC 08-11-2008 08:56 PM

grouse mountain, cypress, any where thats far away city lights as possible...
heard it's best at arnd 2am...

Soundy 08-11-2008 09:09 PM

Pitt Lake, or up that direction, is great - the surrounding mountains block out the city lights nicely without blocking too much of the sky.

Soundy 08-11-2008 09:32 PM

Dammit... I wanna head up tonight, but I gotta be up for work at 6... and I still don't have a remote for my 40D. Stupid Canon for changing the plugs!
