Went to pick up something at 5D today. Total value of $100 .. declared and got pulled in.

Probably trying to deter cross boarder shopping.. :okay:

PandaDog 12-05-2014 12:41 PM

Used my nexus pass for the first time at Blaine last night. Feels good skipping 15 minute lines

Poor Jamie at 5D, he's been dealing with a huge influx of packages lately

wouldn't he be happy that he's getting lots of business? I'm sure he doesn't profit till he's decently busy. Otherwise, getting a few dollars an hour isn't going to pay the rent.

Yikes, that sucks, but it seems like an extremely rare case. I've gone through declaring $100+ many, many, many times and have only been pulled in to pay duty once (at Point Roberts).

I remember the first time I used the nexus as well, it is a great feeling going by all those cars.

That was mainly just yesterday, USPS and UPS decided to deliver at 5pm within minutes of each other. Usually they deliver much earlier a few hours apart.

First thing in the morning and then line up outside.

I'm not joking, especially around this time of the year.

What you mean by line up outside? Im thinking heading out by 10 hopefully wont be too long.

Theres lines at TSB?

PandaDog 12-05-2014 08:23 PM

I assume PR is a lot more lenient because the majority of people only go there to pick up goods.

How's the experience for everyone with a Nexus pass crossing Blaine? Do you guys get frequently sent in declaring $200+?

Although it's not TSB, there was a line around the building at The Letter Carrier the week after Black Friday a few years ago. Someone mentioned a few pages back that there was a 30-40 minute wait at Point2Point a month or so ago. The lineups at all of them are going to be really, really long since a lot of people that used to go TLC now go to Point2Point and TSB.

I recommend going on a weekday.

thanks for helping me out yesterday! I was the guy with the super ghetto taping job with the heavy package to ship out. (coilovers)

Brad Fuel 12-05-2014 09:18 PM

Went to Point Roberts today (Friday) around 230pm. Boarder line up was minimal entering USA, maybe 5 mins. Line up at TSB was minimal, 5 mins. Boarder line up entering Canada was about 5 minutes as well but may have got lucky because they just opened up a second line.

Slowest part will be rush hour traffic everywhere else trying to get to and from Tsswwassen.

Simplex123 12-05-2014 10:10 PM

Just picked up from Point Roberts. 0 line up.
Ship to In Out Parcel - 24/7 Package Pickup | Point Roberts WA cheaper than TSB and P2P and they ahve 24 hour lockers like 24/7 parcel in Blaine. They just don't have a place to throw your cardboard though....

Anyone bring tires / wheels over? Scared of getting taxed.... looking at $500+

I've gotten waived through with $800+ at least three times on day trips of less than 12 hours in the past couple of few years, with at least one time being over $1000.

Probably a few things worked in our favour though. We usually come back really late at night, sometimes well after midnight. Maybe they don't have as many staff on hand at that time so they don't bother to make people go in to pay. We also usually have a totally random mix that includes groceries and baby items, so it would be a lot of work to categorize everything properly because a lot of grocery items are exempt from customs.

The only time I really consider getting lucky was three years ago when I picked up a TV I bought during Black Friday from BestBuy US. Was down for less than six hours and brought back this $800 TV. The border agent started writing down the details of the TV, seemingly about to call me in to pay customs. I think possibly because I didn't react negatively to it, she just ended up saying "It's your lucky day. Have a good night!" and waived me through.

:fuckyea:

Extremely high chance that you'll get taxed.

Luckily for myself when I decided to buy new rims and tires, I split it into two orders and got waived through twice.

Eff-1 12-06-2014 12:04 PM

This year I ordered something online during Black Friday sales. This time around I paid $25 shipping and brokerage on Amazon.com to have it shipped to my door in Vancouver. $20 to save the hassle of picking up in PR at this time of year (even with NEXUS and free shipping) is money well spent IMHO.

LP700-4 12-06-2014 12:26 PM

Went today at 10:30 , got to border just before 11 had like 3 minute wait to cross. Went to TSB had a lineup out the door but got out in 20 minutes or so.

Got gas at chevron 92 octane for 93c/L, 85c for regular. Border wait back into canada was 25 minutes tho, nexus had an even longer line lol wtf

Why so scared? You're probably saving at least a few hundred buying from the US vs. Canada. You're guaranteed to be paying 12% tax in Canada plus levies on top. Shipping to PR/Blaine, you get a chance of getting waived through. Even if it's a 1% chance, it's still better than buying in Canada...

And you obviously go down with an empty tank of gas, and save another $10 in cheap gas by filling it up while down there lol
