right now the interview times are nuts, I had to replace my card and I'm waiting until December to get a slot. :-(

There are no duties on items imported to the US if the value is under $200.

I guess it is getting more popular.... I need to renew mine next year, guess I better plan ahead.

Maybe I should start down playing the card so the NEXUS lines stay short....

It's not busy but definitely not the ideal time to go or else you will get stuck in traffic going back to the Massey Tunnel.

What's up with the gas prices down at Point Roberts? Expensive as fuck at the moment for regular fuel.

Shell 1.209
Chevron 1.209
Texaco 1.189
Can-Am 1.149

As of today

XplicitLuder 08-16-2012 07:28 PM

^ thats expensive? holy fuck lol im so GLAD to see that price when i go down there haha just filled up today actually since i went to ship some stuff.

NLY 08-16-2012 07:58 PM

Hey

Has anyone used point2point/tsb for shipping packages to the USA?

I'm getting tired of paying ridiculous prices using Canada Post and I figured it'll be cheaper, considering it's technically "shipping within the states" versus "Canada to the States."

Thanks in advance!

dink 08-16-2012 08:01 PM

I've been using tsb at pt Roberts for the past 5 years. Never had an issue, the old guy even gave me a tour of the back. Great service!

Left Vancouver at 1:30pm today, didn't get back until 4:30pm.

Going down there the Massey was backed up until the Riverport exit, border wait going to the US was about 40mins. Getting back onto the 99 was a nightmare as well. Wasted about 30mins there since the counterflow lane was in place.

I normally go at around 11am and will probably continue to do so after today's traffic jam.

I went the same time as you today!!

There was an accident at the merge lane from steveston towards the Massey tunnel which caused the back up

I got back into Richmond around 345pm.

If that accident wasn't there I would of made it thru the Massey tunnel before It changed into single lane northbound

Wow, the savings were substantial!

I'm planning to ship smaller items (most of the time under 1.000kg) so my savings from Canada Post will most likely amount to a couple of dollars.

Thanks for the heads up though.

XplicitLuder 08-17-2012 01:01 AM

yep, i was like :ahwow: , i guess cus since youre in the states its a domestic shipment instead of international or w/e.

anyways normally when i go states i try n leave around 10. today i left at about 11:30 and got back home just before 2. traffic was fine, delay at border about..10mins or so so not too bad.

Looks pretty standard to me.

The cheapest places (Can-Am and USA Mart) are always 15-20¢ per liter cheaper than Vancouver, which the above still is.

From what I remember, Chevron / Shell used to be ~20¢ cheaper than local gas stations, and Can-Am / USA Mart were even cheaper.

the_law82 08-17-2012 08:50 AM

I've learned the hard way like some of you as well. I wouldn't go down to PR on a weekday unless it's right in the middle of the day (10-2) and can be sure to make it back before the counterflows change... a nightmare and not worth it.

UFO 08-17-2012 09:34 AM

I ship stuff to the Shell at PR because they open way earlier than any of the other receiving companies. If going down in the morning, best to get to the tunnel before 8. By 8:30, the lineup at the tunnel is usually at least 20-30 mins due to congestion and counterflow. Once counterflow comes back out and 15-20 mins for traffic flow to ease, its all good. So from about 9:30 onwards is ok as well. I find that the PR crossing can be backed up quite bad around lunch time on random days down the hill to/past the park which is a good 45 min or so wait from 11:30-1, but also be just fine on other days. So I try to get to the border before 11 if I don't go early morning. I also try to avoid afternoon runs because traffic seems a bit busier in general even before rush hour officially starts and for whatever reason I've noticed more accidents in the afternoon than early morning.

Gazorcoop 08-17-2012 10:01 AM

Last time I went at 9:30am Tuesday and made a short trip to TLC/ buy some groceries. The wait wasn't too long. Traffic was ok as well. Just a little stop and go for approximately 500m when coming back.

Texaco used to be 20 cents cheaper than local stations here. Can-am was slightly cheaper also by a few cents compared to texaco.

Alby 08-17-2012 10:58 PM

went to PR to TSB just this thursday to pick up a package. in and out of the states under 30mins. this was thursday morning around 10am at the border. chevron gas was at 1.20 while can-am was at 1.15.

Yes, just have to setup the Point Roberts address as verified with Paypal.

To add to that, do you know which shipping locations in Point Roberts are confirmed addresses with paypal?

I've been shipping all my stuff from ebay to the letter carrier, and their address is unconfirmed so some buyers are hesitant to complete the transaction.

I use P2P Parcel, that works just fine.

It's you who has to confirm the address, not the receiving place... I find TLC to be a bit sketchy. I'd pick either TSB Shipping or P2P Parcel.
