^ that dude's a prick haha. He's made me pay a few times.

The black american customs guy is funny as hell, if anyones ever had him. He remembers my car and always asks random questions about it lol.

Anyways, usually it works out to be much cheaper for me. I'm going soon to pick up ~$600 in car parts + random amazon/ebay orders. I'm sure that will go over well

There's a younger Chinese guy ~30's that's pretty friendly. But the middle aged Chinese man is a straight douche.

I had the Black customs guy once too. He's awesome.

Him: What brings you down here?
Me: Picking up a package
Him: What package
Me: A cajon [pronounced ca-hone]
Him: A WHAT?!
Me: A cajon. It's a hand drum instrument thing. [hand him the eBay invoice]
Him: Ahhh, gotcha. I'm Black, I should know all about drums. I thought you said a cone or something. I was like, what the hell do you need to come down here to get a cone for?

Last week when I went across I got dinged tax on my wheels. I just told them the amount and they charged tax on that, they didn't even ask for a receipt to verify the amount.

This was old white man

Worth a shot if you don't live too far, or go down often anyway
This did not work for me. I had such terrible luck with the crossing guards. I actually asked them about the limit in terms of what you can bring back and they said, there is no exemption on one day trips. So yeah, this point may be specific to the guard.

Yup. Technically, you have to stay at least 24 hours to buy anything.

So really, they can tax you on whatever, and whenever they feel like it. At Peace Arch I've been taxed on ~$150 once.

Looking to have a set of motorcycle tires shipped across the border, just wondering which companies accept tires and is the cheapest/convenient. Last I heard the Letter Carrier won't accept tires.

That black guy is awesome, I've only ever had him twice heading down into pt roberts.

The first time I met him was when I was going to pick up Jordan's
and it went like this

Him: What are you doing down here?
Me: Picking up shoes that I ordered
Him: What kind of shoes?
Me: Jordan 11's
Him: OH SNAP! those are siiick son, hurry go get them!
me: Thanks!!

Second time I was just tagging along with 2 of my friends who are girls

Him: What are you guys doing down here?
Friend: Picking up packages
Him: *points at me in the backseat, how do ya'll know each other
Friend: We're all friends
Him: you mean he's not your body guard?
Friend: huh?
Him: Ya'll asians right? He should definately know some karate
Me:
Friends: *laughs
Him: Alright you guys have a good time!

Another black US border guard story.

Him: What's your purpose down here?

Me: I'm picking up some parcels.

Him: What are you picking up?

Me: robot parts

Him: [Does the robot dance] These kind of robots?

Me: No, robots that are this big [gestured about a shoebox size]

Generally, the US border guards are pretty chill compared to their Canadian counterparts at Pt. bob.

I have never been taxed at the Point Roberts crossing but they do search me every other time lol. I've never brought in more than $400 worth of goods though.

The only times that I've been taxed have been through the Blaine truck crossing. The first time, I was importing a vehicle and the second was $2000 worth of tires and rims.

What car do you drive to pick stuff up?

Like previously stated, the car you drive matters a LOT in terms of getting taxed or not.

I drive to point roberts every other week with my friend, he drives a lambo and I drive a z, he gets taxed every single time and I go through with triple his value without a sweat.

the black guy is awesome, encountered him twice only.

Him: What are you doing down here?
Me: Picking up a couple of packages
Him: Is that your wife?
Me: No, just my gf
Him: why aren't you married?
me: cause housing prices are too high in vancouver, you know
Him: yeah you are right, next time you come back make sure shes your wife ok?
me: lol alright.

i used to frequent point roberts quite a bit, but that skinny middle aged asian dude with glasses has pretty much deterred me from going back.

i brought back knives on 3 occasions, 3 fixed blades and 1 buck 110 pocket knife.

first time,

older brunette lady: "what'd you pick up"
me: "a camping knife"
her: "how long is the blade"
me: "3.5 inches"
her: *laughs* "thats no knife" *waves me through

second time,
younger caucasian dude: "what did you pick up"
me: "a custom knife"
dude: "what kinda custom knife"
me: "uh.. well, its a buck 110 from the custom shop with an s30v blade, nickel bolsters and koa flamewood handle scales"
dude: "thats pretty sweet, can i check it out?"
me: *pass him the knife
dude: *plays with the damn thing for 5 minutes straight, cars piling up behind me
me: *somewhat anxious
dude: "thats a pretty sweet knife, i have a collection myself" *waves me through
me: *whew

third and last time for knives,
asian dude with glasses: "why did you go down to point roberts"
me: "to pick up packages and get gas"
dude: "what did you pick up"
me: "i picked up some knives for camping and hunting"
dude: *glares at me "do you have any weapons on your person?"
me: "no"
dude: "do you have any firearms on you?"
me: *starting to get a bad vibe* "no... why would i carry firearms with me while crossing the border?"
dude: *hands me a slip "pull into the front of the building"
me: "okie doke",

so i pull into the front, park my truck and go inside and hand the slip to a cbsa agent at the counter (different agent). dude looks at the slip, looks me up and down and asks if i have any firearms on my person.

me: "no i do not have any firearms on my person"
2nd cbsa agent: "are you sure?"
me: "yes"
2nd guy: "do you own any firearms"
me: "yes"
dude: *gets a bit antsy and calls over another cbsa agent, blonde female
dude: "empty the contents of your pockets onto the table, lift your shirt and slowly turn around, lift each pant leg individually and slowly turn around."
me: "uh..... ok?" *i complied, basically spun around in a circle 3 times doing the various shit they asked. noticed the female cbsa agent was in a draw position (hand on belt near her gun).

after everything checks out they ask me to stay seated on the bench and make me surrender my phone and take my car keys to go search the truck.

they fuck around for a solid 20 minutes going around the inside, outside and underneath.

they bring back my packages into the office.

dude: "why do you need knives like this"
me: "i hunt, camp, hike and fish, a knife is a useful tool to have in the woods"
dude: "alright" then sends me on my way.

i didnt have to pay taxes because the knives were stamped made in the usa right on the blade.

every single time after that incident regardless of what i'm coming back with that asshat chinese dude with glasses asks if i have any weapons or firearms on my person or in the vehicle... EVERY TIME.

also he sends me in every time to pay taxes.

i havent gone back to point roberts since mid 2012. let me know when that chinese dude with the glasses goes away.

I think the guy is a volvo enthusiast.. I don't think he will leave as he lives just around the corner from the border.

I thought CBSA agents don't carry handguns? When did this happen?

As well, items brought back over that are made in USA aren't tax free, they're just duty free.

I've personally never been taxed crossing the border at Pt Roberts. That said, I only cross with max $250 of goods.
