Personally, I'd love to see some of your stuff... as with any art form, different can be good! I imagine some pretty abstract takes on otherwise plain scenes.

So the noob i am, i've been looking for some good reading. I was looking at the recomendations that users were giving over at the POTN forums. There was a book that came out countless times. Alot of people recomended it. So I made the purchase; Bryan Peterson's Understanding Exposure. So far its been a good book to read. I previewed a scanned copy online and its helpful. Can't wait to try out the new techniques I learn!

I have red/green color blindness. Sometimes red looks like green and green looks like red... or blue looks like purple..... or green looks like grey or...... brown looks like red

Oh oh oh.. and if you put fluorescent colors on top of each other, the color on top looks like it's popping out at me in 3D.. kinda scary.

people say that to me all the time, but i can tell the difference between the colors on a traffic light. It's only when the colors are not so obvious.. like in a painting or someone shirt or something..

I graduated highschool last year and i love photolurking. my photography stuff is disguesting but I'm learning everyday. I went from webcams to canon's top dslr within a year and now im back to the good old film. maybe oneday i'll hassie it up

oh i forgot to mention, photoshop is a big no for me.

I lurk this forum all the time. I really like a lot of the shots people are taking (huge pictures folder for this forum alone, hahaha). I got into photography at a pretty young age as my pops is a magazine owner/ Professional photographer, although I was never really "into" it, but now I'm quite interested. I'm not that great at taking the pictures yet, but I'm working on it, and lately I've been tagging a long on more and more shoots to learn.

Right now I mostly shoot with his D300 or f90, although I prefer the 300 since it's digital. We have something like 9+ lenses collectively between the two of us.

I'm looking to get into shooting automotive more now. I just can never seen to get the colours to pop as much as some of the ones I've seen in the automotive shots thread. I'm decent at architecture/landscape/food as that's what my dad mostly shoots, but he is getting interested in the car shoots now since it's pretty fun looking for spots etc.

Here is a picture I took of a friends car, feedback? I did some corrections on it, i Don't know for the better though. I'm a little confused as it's quite a bit darker when it is in Aperture, but when I upload it on imageshack it gets lighter......

Aperture must use a jpg bad compressor. I know in photoshop if you don't export the images properly, they look all washed out and don't retain their contrast very well.

i started tinkering with my bro's old minolta slr maybe about 15 years ago but when we moved to canada, we had lost it. my first formal camera was a canon a85 and it just quit on me so i made a move to buy my first dslr, which was the xti. i love taking pics of cars ever since i had my first car about 10 years ago. i love looking at automotive shots and reading up on the photo lab and photo daily showcase as i learn a lot from here.

First started out using a Pentax K1000, which is what our school used in the photography class.

The first camera I bought was the Olympus OM2, which had some advanced metering for the time. It had TTL for flash and also OTF (off-the-film) where the camera measured light reflecting off the film when the shutter was opened. It was great for night shots (which I did a lot of) as it could meter accurately for up to 120 seconds. It was strange to activate the shutter and then 10, 20 or more seconds later it would close on its own when it figured enough light hit the film.

Also bought a Hasselbad 500C/M as a friends dad had several (he collected cameras) and it took great pictures. It was the status symbol for any photographer to have.

Traded the OM2 for a Nikon F3. Everybody wanted a Nikon and getting their top-of-the-line body was a big deal for me. I kept using it until the mid 90's when I started losing interest in photography and sold most of my gear (except for a few Nikon lenses as I always thought I'd get back into shooting some day).

First digital I bought was a Canon G2 which I still use as my point & shoot.

Been looking at getting a DSLR for some time and bought the D700 when it came out as it finally offered what I was looking for all-around in a DSLR.



BTW, to the guy who made the comment that shooting was expensive, have you ever shot film? Now that's expensive. One thing's for sure - when every shot costs money you learn pretty quick to make sure the basics like exposure are right before snapping the pic. Nothing like dropping $20 on a roll of film and not getting a single usable picture. When I was shooting a lot I could easily burn through several hundred dollars of film every month.

What I loved most about film was shooting slides. Esp with the Hasselblad. A 2 1/4" slide projected onto a screen looks amazing.

Hi, I'm roastpuff aka Diondi. I got interested in photography a while back, because my grandpa always took these snapshots during family dinners or any event to document everything (always shots from 4 corners, nothing else) and I was always really attracted to any sort of gadget.

Picked up a 450D/XSi in Singapore, and was busy taking lots of pictures during my internship there in May. I'm a bit shyer about having my camera out in Vancouver, but I'm actually spotting quite a few fellow photographers now that I know what to keep an eye out for.

During the internship for the Business Times (Singapore's financial daily) I had the occasion of actually having to take my own pictures for my articles due to a shortage of photographers at the paper, so I can proudly say that I've had published pictures.

I realize that I'm also a bit of a gear whore, and I'm trying to reduce that tendency, but all those nice L-enses make me drool. I've only recently started using a flash, and I'm amazed at how better my pictures are turning out.

Still learning about better composition, especially for wider pictures. My technical skill - exposure, etc, - is pretty good. I Just have to avoid taking bland shots.

It is sepia, sorry. I tend to lump sepia with B/W for some reason.

I like it better when blown up... it has more character in sepia. It's my desktop BG at the moment.

Hey guys!

My name is Mike Boldt, I'm actually from Calgary. I just created an account on here, I mainly joined the forum for the photography section and to get some feedback from a different group of people!

I've been shooting for 3 years now, my first DSLR was a Canon Rebel XT, since then I have pretty much owned everything you can think of.. 3x 350D, 30D, 5D, D80, D2X, and I am currently shooting with a D300 + Grip. Along with those bodies I have owned a ton of lenses.. I hope with that previous knowledge, I will be able to some help to fellow members with my opinions and feedback =)

I have been shooting automotive stuff for the past 3 months, I previously focused on a lot of music and band stuff but decided to move on... So far there has been a lot more appreciation for my automotive stuff than any of my other stuff =)

I'm trying to keep my rig under wraps right now, some of my competition are looking to rip off my ideas... Also I tend to do it quite a bit differently than most other people... and my final rig still hasn't really been created, I just don't have funding for my ideas! I have spent well over $600.00 on my current setup.

However I will create a thread with some links to other helpful places regarding rig stuff =)

noob and lurker rite here.. got my first dslr just 3 months ago.. liked it.. got into it just to take pictures of cars. but now i'm taking pictures of just about anything.. no training wat so ever... just self taught with the book that came with it.. and a little bit of research.. d80 owner with kit lens and 70-300mm... seen some amazing photos here.. i just started posting piks here on photo forums.. any feedback are welcome.. preferred helpful feedback.... .. . ... ... . . . . ... . ..

Started as kid with film and darkroom processing but quit after awhile due to the cost. A few years back, had a friend lend me their digital rebel and got hooked again. Worked with a few photographers as an assistant and am now starting to branch out on my own although I think I still like to collaborate the best. I guess you can say I started as GWC (though I still like taking the odd pervy shot), but I'm trying to reach a higher level now. I guess I mostly lurk here now due to not having as much free time as I'd like.
